REPORT: Trump Considering Replacing Defense Secretary Mark Esper With Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie

YAAS do it

President Donald Trump is reportedly considering replacing Defense Secretary Mark Esper with Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie ahead of the 2020 election, despite being warned against doing so by his top advisors.

Esper has publicly broken from the president this summer over the administration’s use of federal assets to control protests and riots across the country, and two senior administration officials told NBC News that Trump is still considering removing his Pentagon chief ahead of November. NBC’s sources say that Wilkie has met with Trump and multiple senior White House officials about helming the Department of Defense

Wilkie further defended Trump Sunday from allegations that he has a history of disparaging wounded veterans and prisoners of war, as detailed by The Atlantic and other media outlets over the past week. During an interview with CNN, he brushed off Trump’s insults against former Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain.

“It’s politics,” Wilkie stated after noting he was friends with the late Republican Senator. “It’s the heat of a campaign.”

Trump routinely referred to McCain as a “loser” and feuded with him throughout the 2016 campaign up until his death in 2018.

Trump first soured on Esper after he took an opposing position from the president in June, stating he didn’t believe it was appropriate to mobilize the military to help police violence spilling out of peaceful protests over the police killing of George Floyd.

“The option to use active duty forces in a law enforcement role should only be used as a matter of last resort, and only in the most urgent and dire of situations,” Esper told reporters during a press conference shortly after the president first floated invoking the Insurrection Act. “We are not in one of those situations now. I do not support invoking the Insurrection Act.”

The White House declined Daily Caller’s Monday inquiries on NBC’s report.

Young Black voters not excited about Joe Biden-Kamala Harris ticket, analyst says

'I don’t understand how anyone could be thinking he could fix the injustices when he was the one who created them,' Gianno Caldwell said

Joshua Nelson4 hrs ago

2020 Democratic running mates Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are not appealing to young African American voters, Fox News political analyst Gianno Caldwell said Monday.

“For every African American, especially, young African Americans, we point clearly to the 1994 Crime Bill, which was sponsored by Sen. Joe Biden. One which gave $9.7 billion to build private prisons in our country and provided grants and incentivized states to create what we call the three-strike law,” Caldwell told “Fox & Friends.”

Caldwell said the legislation was “very intentional and it created a fair amount of injustice for African Americans."

“Joe Biden is a part of the problem therefore I don’t understand how anyone could be thinking he could fix the injustices when he was the one who created them,” Caldwell said.

Vice presidential hopeful Harris took shots at President Trump and Attorney General Bill Barr on Sunday for comments they made denying there is systemic racism in America's judicial system.

Harris pushed back on Barr’s assertion last week that he does not believe there are two justice systems in America and that Democrats are pushing a “false narrative” when it comes to the shooting of Black people in the United States.

“I think that Donald Trump and Bill Barr are spending full time in a different reality,” Harris said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “The reality of America today is what we have seen over generations and, frankly, since our inception, which is we do have two systems of justice in America.”

She added: “I don't think that most reasonable people who are paying attention to the facts would dispute that there are racial disparities and a system that has engaged in racism in terms of how the laws have been enforced.”

Harris’ hit on Trump and Barr comes just days after the attorney general pushed back on claims that African Americans are treated differently by law enforcement.

"I don't think there are two justice systems," Barr said on CNN last week. "I think the narrative that the police are in some epidemic of shooting unarmed Black men is simply a false narrative and also the narrative that's based on race."

Caldwell said young African Americans are not excited about Biden's candidacy nor Harris'.

“Some of them just say hey, we’re not going to vote because they are a part of the system that got us in this mess to begin with,” Caldwell said.

“Joe Biden is going to have an issue because there is no way he is going to get President Obama’s 2008 numbers when it comes to African American support, which [was] at 94, 95, 96 percent. He is not going to get that, therefore, I think Joe Biden is going to lose this race for president.”

Video on Twitter of Lake Lanier; I love my state

>et another boat parade attended by President Donald Trump supporters can lay claim to being the biggest ever seen after thousands turned up on a lake in Georgia.

>Organizers of Sunday's "Great American Boat Parade" on Lake Lanier had expected that several hundreds of people would turn up to the event promoted as a show of appreciation for first responders and the "leadership of this great nation."

>However, officials at the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said that between 3,000 to 4,000 vessels were at the parade, according to Mark McKinnon at the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Access WDUN reports.

>Even as a rough guess, the figure is still much higher than the current record for largest ever boat parade.

>Newsweek subscription offers >

>According to the Guinness World Records, the current largest boat parade saw 1,080 vessels, which was set in Terengganu, Malaysia, on 13 September 2014.

>Despite the larger number of attendees, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said the event went more smoothly than a parade in Texas on Saturday afternoon, in which several boats sank.

>"It went really smooth, we haven't received any reports of boats sinking or swamping or getting turned over," Georgia Department of Natural Resources Game Warden Kevin Goss told 11 Alive.

>Earlier this year, a Trump boat parade over the Fourth of July weekend in South Carolina also claimed to have broken the world record after more than 3,400 boats took part on Lake Murray.

>Newsweek subscription offers >

>However, Guinness previously told Newsweek that it could not officially list it as a record as no organizers had filed an application for it to be reviewed.

>Guinness World Records have confirmed they are still reviewing a smaller boat parade in Clearwater, Florida, on August 15 in which an estimated 1,180 boats took part. It could take up to 15 weeks for the organization to confirm that the parade in Florida was larger than the current record holder.

>"We can confirm we have received an application for this title and attempt. We are currently awaiting evidence to review," Amanda Marcus, public relations manager at Guinness World Records, told the Associated Press.

>"Our standard application review process can take up to 12-15 weeks of submission. Once received and reviewed, our Records Management Team will then confirm the success or failure of the record attempt."

>Speaking to Access WDUN, the organizers for the Great American Boat Parade in Georgia said they changed the original Trump theme of the event to make a wider group of people feel comfortable taking part.

>"I did not want the parade to be tied directly to any political event or any one politician," John Gunter. "I think our nation is in a bigger place right now and the direction that I wanted to see the event move was to support general patriotism."

>"We didn't want to be biased and restrict everybody with the theme," added fellow organizer Dustin Melton. "So we went with Great American Boat Parade and it's a parade that's unbiased."

>However, in a statement to Newsweek, Guinness World Records said they do not consider "politically motivated" events for official records.

>"Guinness World Records is an apolitical organization, determined to protect the integrity of our records by remaining politically neutral," a spokesperson said.

>"Therefore, we do not accept record applications which we consider to be politically motivated or are looking to promote a political agenda."
