France: Lille restaurant dumps 2 tonnes of mussels at govt building to denounce COVID measures
~
A restaurant owner in Lille protested the closure of restaurants at midnight due to COVID-19 restrictions by dumping two tonnes of mussels outside the French city's North Prefecture building on Monday.
The protest move was organised by the owner of the La Chicoree restaurant, which motivated the protest on Facebook by saying that the restaurant closing at midnight caused two tonnes of mussels to be unsold.
"We ordered our mussels, we hired extra staff for Sunday night [yearly Braderie street market] There, there are all the mussels remaining, those that have not been sold from Saturday night to Sunday nor 24 hours later. By the way, we had a loss in turnover between 15 and 20 percent," said Restaurateur Arnaud Meunier.
On Friday, the Lille prefect ordered bars, restaurants and commercial establishments to close at midnight, in a bid to contain the spread of the virus.
