I think it's personal choice and mainly distraction.
I've been studying the hebrew alphabet as well as gematria/kabbalah recently. Ever since realizing there was an entire craft around the spoken word, I've been entranced with the subject matter. It's about all I can think of lately. It's the single most interesting subject matter I think exists. Really should be taught in schools.
