>Army chief responds to Trump criticism: War recommendation is ‘last resort’

The last resort, whenever and wherever we’re told to go to war. McConville’s attempted defense is pitifully thin.

Afghanistan? Can’t blame us for that. It had to be done. It was a v v v difficult mission, which is why we still need to be there. It was the last resort though.

Iraq? We made sure that was the last resort, what with all those WMDs.

Libya? We certainly made sure there were legitimate grounds first. And we really tried to rescue those guys in Beng-somewhere. Absolutely a last resort.

The fact is that the US armed forces’ top brass repeatedly bend over to accommodate the interests of those who get off on perpetual war.

>The difference is one was overtly globalist and one overtly nationalist.

Once Trotsky was ousted from influence, the international revolutionary fervor rather melted away from actual communism (as opposed to the theoretical politics of students). Stalin’s “socialism in one country” was launched in 1924, after the failure of other revolutions (esp. in Germany) to “stick”. SIOC is rather indistinguishable from NatSoc - except for the composition of the ruling oligarchy: party bosses vs bankers and industrialists.

Worth observing that most communist revolutions have taken place in countries with a low level of pre-existing industrialization - it affects the nature of the challenge and the personnel that emerge to lead after the revolution.
