Sen. Tom Cotton Introduces Trio of Bills to Combat Rioters

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) will introduce three new pieces of legislation on Wednesday that aim to curb rioters, Breitbart News has learned exclusively.

“Under lenient leftist policies, insurrectionists around the country continue to pillage America’s communities. It’s past time we cracked down on their destructive actions,” Cotton told Breitbart News. “My legislation will incapacitate these rioters to prevent further destruction and increase penalties against them, making the punishment fit their crimes.”

Cotton’s legislation is designed to make it more difficult for rioters to get bailed out of jail upon arrest, create avenues for rioting victims to sue rioters, and to cut rioters off from federal unemployment benefits—a Senate companion to a House bill from Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) exclusively reported on by Breitbart News.

The first bill, the “No Catch-and-Release for Rioters Act,” would create a rebuttable presumption against allowing bail for those charged with participating in a riot. The second bill, the “Rioting Restitution Act,” would make, according to Sen. Cotton’s office, “a federal, private, civil cause of action against rioters who meet the federal definition of rioting.” It would also allow for treble—or triple—damages, per the statute if the law were adopted.

The third bill is the Senate companion to Banks’ House bill, the “Support Peaceful Protest Act,” which makes those convicted of rioting on federal charges ineligible for federal unemployment benefits under the CARES Act—which created a temporary first-ever federal unemployment supplemental program in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Cotton’s Senate bill, like Banks’ House bill, makes those convicted of federal crimes, when it comes to rioting, unable to receive such federal benefits.

Riots across the country in American cities—which leftists have steered into American suburbs such as Kenosha, Wisconsin—have upended the 2020 presidential race. President Donald Trump has surged in polls as his challenger, Democrat nominee former Vice President Joe Biden, was slow to condemn the violence tearing the country apart. Biden has, after months of ignoring the violence, now tried to blame Trump for it even though the people conducting the riots are on the political left and that riots are happening in almost every case in cities and states with Democrat Party leadership, not in places with Republican leadership.

Cotton has been front and center fighting the leftist violence, both in official actions such as introducing Senate legislation and also in the political arena. He has released battleground state ads framing this as a key part of the 2020 presidential race between Trump and Biden.

One Doctor's Own Practice Charged Him $10,984 For A COVID Antibody Test

One doctor in Austin literally got a taste of his own medicine after going to his own practice to get a Covid antibody test. Assuming he would get one for free because he worked for the company, his insurance instead wound up getting a bill from Physicians Premier ER for $10,984. His insurance paid it all.

But the doctor in question, Dr. Zachary Sussman, became so dismayed, he quit his job, according to ProPublica. Now, the parent company of Sussman's insurer is investigating the case.

Sussman was working part time at four Physicians Premier ER centers, making $4,000 per month to oversee antibody testing. The job was a temporary gig between permanent jobs in Austin and New Mexico.

He decided he wanted to take his own test in May, before visiting his family, because he had developed a headache. He went to his own company for a test and, knowing "the materials for each antibody test only amounted to about $8, and it gets read on the spot " - and that he could even administer the test, figured costs would be minimal.

Barr: Murders Drop 50% in Chicago Thanks to President Trump’s Operation Legend

Murders in Chicago have dropped 50 percent thanks to President Trump’s anti-crime initiative Operation Legend, Attorney General William Barr announced on Wednesday.

“Over the first five weeks of Operation Legend, in Chicago, murders dropped by 50 percent over the previous five weeks,” Barr announced during a Wednesday update.

In the month of August, the Windy City saw a 45 percent decrease in murders compared to July and a 35 percent decrease compared to June, the attorney general continued.

“In fact, Chicago in August saw the lowest number of murders at any time since April. The bottom line is that Operation Legend has played a critical role in cutting Chicago’s murder rate roughly in half since before the operation,” Barr said:

Barr announced the launch of Operation Legend, a “sustained, systematic and coordinated law enforcement initiative across all federal law enforcement agencies working in conjunction with state and local law enforcement officials to fight the sudden surge of violent crime,” in July. Officials named the operation in honor of four-year-old LeGend Taliferro, who was shot and killed in Kansas City June 29.

The operation has since expanded to several U.S. cities, including Chicago, Albuquerque, Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Memphis, and most recently Indianapolis. Through these joint efforts, authorities have arrested over 2,000 suspects, 592 of whom have been charged with federal crimes.

Per the Department of Justice:

In addition, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has seized 587 firearms, more than 1.2 kilos of heroin, and more than five kilos of methamphetamine; the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has seized almost 70 kilos of methamphetamine, more than 16 kilos of heroin, more than 7 kilos of fentanyl, more than 12 kilos of cocaine, 268 firearms, and approximately $5.19 million in drug proceeds; the FBI has recovered 241 weapons; and, the U.S. Marshals Service has recovered 169 firearms and made 1,810 arrests, including 163 for homicide and 120 for sexual assault.

According to the latest update, 124 individuals have been charged with federal crimes in Chicago alone — the highest number of any city in the operation thus far. That includes:

30 defendants have been charged with narcotics-related offenses;

90 defendants have been charged with firearms-related offenses; and

4 defendants have been charged with other violent crimes.

Additionally, 123 defendants have been charged with federal crimes in St. Louis, 113 in Kansas City, 66 in Cleveland, 45 in Albuquerque, 58 in Detroit, 31 in Indianapolis, and 16 in both Memphis and Milwaukee.

Donald Trump: Joe Biden ‘Devoted His Career to Offshoring’ American Jobs to China

Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden “devoted his career to offshoring” American jobs, President Donald Trump said during a rally in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

“Joe Biden devoted his career to offshoring new jobs, throwing open your borders and dragging us into endless foreign wars and surrendering our children’s future to countries like China,” Trump told the crowd on Tuesday evening.

“This state lost 43 percent of all manufacturing jobs after the twin disasters of NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) and China’s entrance into the World Trade Organization (WTO), that’s courtesy of Biden and his friends,” Trump continued.

He also noted Biden’s record as vice president, where he toured the nation in an attempt to sell the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) to the public. If Trump had not killed TPP, the free trade deal would have provided incentives to businesses to offshore American jobs and industry to countries like Malaysia and Vietnam.

One provision in the Biden-supported TPP would have given “special benefits” to businesses that offshored American jobs, an analysis from Public Citizen notes. Biden has promised to renegotiate TPP if he becomes president.

Joy Behar says she won't trust the COVID-19 vaccine until Ivanka Trump takes it: 'Don't fall for it'

She won't trust a vaccine that comes out with Trump as president

"The View" co-host Joy Behar said she doesn't trust a COVID-19 vaccine that may be released to the public by November, and she won't take it unless President Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump, does, according to The Hill.

The Trump administration has been working to get a vaccine approved and distributed by the end of the year through a public-private partnership initiative called Operation Warp Speed. Behar pointed to the amount of time it took for other vaccines to be developed as reason for concern.

"[Trump] will push anything to get reelected," Behar said. "Don't fall for it, and by the way, I will take the vaccine after Ivanka takes it."

"Under Operation Warp Speed, we're producing a vaccine in record time," the president said at a rally in North Carolina. "This is a vaccine that we're going to have very soon, very, very soon. By the end of the year, but much sooner than that perhaps."

"As far as the vaccine is concerned, I'd like to inform America — in case we don't know this because I looked all this up for you — the mumps vaccine took four years, the polio vaccine took 20 years, and the smallpox vaccine took a few centuries," Behar said on ABC on Wednesday morning.

"It was developed initially in 1796, when they started to think about it, and it became useful in the 1950s. OK?" she added of the smallpox vaccine. "It is not a simple thing to do."

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention alerted states to be prepared for a vaccine as early as the end of October, although that doesn't necessarily mean one will be approved by then. Several U.S. companies, and others around the world, are working on a vaccine.

An AstraZeneca vaccine trial was recently halted due to an unexplained illness in the trial that may or may not be related to the vaccine.

"As part of the ongoing randomized, controlled global trials of the Oxford coronavirus vaccine, our standard review process triggered a pause to vaccination to allow review of safety data," an AstraZeneca statement read. "This is a routine action which has to happen whenever there is a potentially unexplained illness in one of the trials, while it is investigated, ensuring we maintain the integrity of the trials."

This Obama-Biden Administration Failure Killed More Americans Than COVID-19

Everyone on the left is trying to blame Donald Trump for COVID-19 and the deaths caused by it. Gov. Andrew Cuomo is trying to blame Trump for the outbreak in New York. Joe Biden wants voters to believe Trump is responsible for the deaths caused by a virus that started in and was covered up by China for weeks before alerting the World Health Organization. Joe Biden has claimed “it didn’t have to be this way” despite having failed to present a single alternative response to the virus. In fact, he often plagiarized Trump’s COVID-19 response by “proposing” actions that had already been implemented.

What the Democrats and the media don’t want us to know is that their scaremongering campaign against hydroxychloroquine, a drug Trump touted as a potential game-changer back in March, could have saved thousands of lives had they not turned public opinion against the drug simply because Trump had brought attention to it after a French study showed it had promise in treating the virus. In fact, countries that are widely using the drug early to treat patients have much lower death rates than those that aren’t.

Had China not covered up the virus for weeks, the number of cases worldwide could have been reduced by up to 95 percent, according to a study by the University of Southampton. Each state had its own COVID-19 response, and the disparity between the states was dramatic. In fact, the five worst-hit states in deaths per capita (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island) account for one-third of all COVID-19 deaths in the country. Blaming Trump for how each state uniquely responded to the virus is absurd.

There is an actual example of government incompetence leading to hundreds of thousands of deaths nationwide—but it didn’t happen under Trump. It happened during the Obama-Biden administration. And their incompetence killed more people than the Chinese coronavirus has in this country.

The Veterans Affairs Department was notorious for its poorly managed health care system, and the Obama-Biden administration promised to end the horrendous backlog in VA benefits claims, some of which languished for years.

But the backlog of VA claims, which had been on the decline when Obama and Biden took office, skyrocketed on their watch. Unprocessed claims exceeded 900,000, with roughly two-thirds of all claims idling for 125 days or longer.

From 2011 to 2013, the time it took to process claims increased 40 percent, to an unthinkable 272 days. As a result of this backlog surge the number of veterans who died waiting for care and benefits skyrocketed.

And the Obama-Biden administration did nothing.

Even after reports of vets dying waiting for care started getting attention, the administration didn’t seem interested in solving the problem. In fact, as reports of falsified waiting lists and unnecessary deaths at hospitals nationwide started being reported by the media, the Obama-Biden administration not only refused to conduct its own investigation, but actually retaliated against whistleblowers.

Complaints of retaliation against whistleblowers were filed in 28 states at 45 facilities, according to the independent Office of Special Counsel. That’s systemic retaliation, as if the Obama-Biden administration cared more about the public relations disaster than the lives of our veterans.

The Obama-Biden transition team had been briefed on the situation at the Department of Veterans Affairs, which had been improving when they took office, and they even formed a committee to address the systemic problems in the department. They had ample opportunity to turn things around and improve the care of our veterans.

Instead, more than 300,000 veterans died while waiting for care from Obama and Biden’s Department of Veterans Affairs, according to an Inspector General report released in September 2015.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden are responsible for those deaths. The problems at the VA were fixable and they failed to fix them. We know they were fixable because President Trump actually did what was necessary to fix the problems at the VA.
