Biden: Trump’s Pandemic Response ‘Almost Criminal’ — His Admission of Downplaying ‘Disgusting’

Former Vice President Joe Biden told CNN’s Jake Tapper during an interview set to air Thursday on “The Lead” that President Donald Trump’s admissions to Bob Woodward about downplaying the seriousness of the coronavirus were “disgusting.”

Biden said Trump’s response to the virus that has killed over 190,000 in the United States is “almost criminal.”

Anchor Jake Tapper said, “So big, breaking news. In his upcoming book, Bob Woodward reports that President Trump understood the serious risk posed by the novel coronavirus in early February. Take a look at what the president told Woodward February 7th.”

In audio, Trump said, “You just breathe the air. That’s how it is passed. So that is a very tricky one, a very delicate one. It’s also more deadly than your, you know, even your strenuous flus. This is deadly stuff.”

Tapper said, “As you know, the president spent much of February and even March downplaying the risk of the novel coronavirus saying it would disappear saying the heat would make it go away. What is your response to this news about what he was telling Bob Woodward on February 7?”

Biden said, “Disgusting. We learn this on a day that 190,000 Americans are dead, and he knew this? I understand he had just gotten off the phone when he did the first interview with Woodward. He had just gotten off the phone with Xi Jinping, where he is praising him about transparency, and this is nothing to worry about, and this is going to go away like a miracle. What in God’s name would a man like —I don’t get it. I truly don’t get it. It’s like the way he talks about our veterans. It’s astounding to me.”

Tapper said, “The way that President Trump explains it, and he said this to Woodward on March 19 if you take a listen.”

In audio, Trump said, “I wanted to always play it down. I still like playing it down. Because I don’t want to create a panic.”

Biden said, “That’s why we have no confidence in his leadership. I mean, look, you saw what Columbia Medical School pointed out in March, had he acted one week earlier, there would be over 31,000 more people alive. Two weeks earlier would have been 50 some thousand still alive. This caused people to die. What did he do the whole time? He acknowledged that if you breathed it, it’s in the air, and he won’t put on a mask. He’s talking about it’s ridiculous to put on masks. What do you need social distancing for? Why have any of these rules? It was all about making sure the stock market didn’t come down, that his wealthy friends didn’t lose any money, and that he could say that, in fact, anything that happened had nothing to do with him. He waved a white flag. He walked away. He didn’t do a damn thing. Think about it. Think about what he did not do, and it’s almost criminal.”

Portland Antifa rioters accused of assaulting cops with weapons face federal charges

After more than 100 days of Black Lives Matter-Antifa riots in Portland, the federal government is stepping in where local officials have failed to enforce the law. Following the announcement of numerous federal arrests of accused rioters last week, three more Portlanders have been named and charged.

William Grant Reuland, 24, is accused of assaulting multiple Portland Police officers with a high-powered laser in June. Alexandra Eutin, 24, is accused of striking a cop with a wooden shield in July. Pedro Aldo Ramos, Jr., 20, is accused of punching a female police officer in the face in August. All three have been federally charged with felony civil disorder following investigations by the FBI.

According to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon, Reuland was photographed by a Portland cop on June 13 at a protest where Antifa mobbed the Multnomah County Justice Center in downtown Portland. The suspect allegedly flashed a powerful laser at the eyes of numerous officers.

In the early morning hours the next day, Reuland joined marchers who trekked to Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler’s condo building. The suspect was observed shining a laser at homes in the building. Reuland was arrested that day and charged by Portland Police with assaulting an officer, trespass, and unlawful directing of a laser. However, he was bailed out and the charges were dropped.

On July 16, rioters hurled rocks, bottles, and other objects at the Portland Police southeast precinct. Eutin was cited that night for allegedly beating a cop on the head with a wooden shield and other weapons when he attempted to arrest her comrade. Police reinforcements took Eutin into custody for felony assault of a public safety officer. She was quickly released without bail and is set to be arraigned for the local charge on Sept. 18.

Homeland Security Investigations special agents arrested Eutin at her residence in southeast Portland on Sunday on the federal felony charge.

Then on Aug. 23, black bloc militants blocked traffic and launched sharp ceramic chunks, rocks, and glass bottles outside Portland Police’s north precinct. The building was lit on fire twice during the attack. Ramos allegedly grabbed a female officer while she was arresting another individual and dragged her away before punching her in the face. Among the 23 booked in the Multnomah County Detention Center, Ramos was charged with assaulting a public safety officer, interfering with a peace officer, and felony riot. He was also immediately released without bail.

Ramos turned himself in to the U.S. Marshals Service on Tuesday on the felony charge.

Reuland, Eutin, and Ramos made their initial appearances in federal court Tuesday before a U.S. magistrate judge. All were released pending further court proceedings. If convicted, the three suspects face a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison.

Twitter permanently suspends QAnon account belonging to friend of Scott Morrison for 'harmful activity'

BurnedSpy34 and two other associated accounts have been removed by the social media giant in its crackdown on conspiracy content

Twitter says it permanently suspended a QAnon account belonging to a family friend of the prime minister, Scott Morrison, for “engaging in coordinated harmful activity”.

Twitter is in the middle of a broader crackdown on QAnon content and is attempting to reduce the amplification of accounts spreading “clear and well-documented informational, physical, societal and psychological offline harm on our service”.

BurnedSpy34, a prominent and prolific member of the Australian QAnon scene, was recently permanently suspended.

Australia's conspiracy theorists are increasingly energised, but police crackdowns may be counterproductive

The man behind the account, Tim Stewart, regularly tweeted content associated with the QAnon conspiracy theory to his tens of thousands of followers, including bizarre and unfounded claims about Alexander Downer and Julie Bishop, among others.

“The account you mentioned below has been permanently suspended for engaging in coordinated harmful activity,” a Twitter spokeswoman said.

Last year, the Guardian revealed that the owner of the account was a long-standing family friend of the Australian prime minister and his wife, Jenny. The families’ association was driven by the friendship between Stewart’s wife and Jenny.

His wife worked on the prime minister’s staff in a publicly funded position but not in any policy or advisory capacity. There is no evidence she shares her husband’s views. It is not clear whether the employment arrangement is ongoing.

Twitter is understood to have removed 7,000 accounts in the past several weeks for breaching its rules against spam, platform manipulation, and/or ban evasion. Its broader actions are expected to reduce visibility for 150,000 accounts globally.

James Mattis Warned Intellligence Chief: ‘Collective Action’ May Be Required Against Trump

Former Defense Secretary James Mattis reportedly once warned a top United States intelligence official that “collective action” might be required to stem President Donald Trump’s “dangerous” behavior in the White House, according to a new book by the Washington Post’s Bob Woodward.

In his new book on the Trump administration—titled, Rage—Woodward reveals the inner machinations and grumblings of former White House officials, like James Mattis and ex-Director ofnNational Intelligence Dan Coats. According to the book, which was widely excerpted by the Post on Wednesday, Mattis was particularly concerned about Trump’s leadership in 2017 during a standoff with North Korea over its missile tests:

Mattis quietly went to Washington National Cathedral to pray about his concern for the nation’s fate under Trump’s command and, according to Woodward, told Coats, “There may come a time when we have to take collective action” since Trump is “dangerous. He’s unfit.”

In a separate conversation recounted by Woodward, Mattis told Coats, “The president has no moral compass,” to which the director of national intelligence replied: “True. To him, a lie is not a lie. It’s just what he thinks. He doesn’t know the difference between the truth and a lie.”

The revelations regarding Mattis’s suggestion to Coats of taking “collective action” against Trump quickly drew attention on social media, with some comparing the discussion to “spit-balling a presidential coup.”

Jim Mattis, the coup plotter?

The Woodward book claims Mattis said, “There may come a time when we have to take collective action" against Trump.

Although the context of Mattis’s discussion with Coats is still unclear, the former defense official has increasingly become an opponent of his one-time White House boss. Since leaving the administration in January 2019, Mattis has lambasted the president over disagreements on both foreign policy and domestic affairs.

In June of this year, the former defense secretary claimed that Trump was going against constitutional norms in his handling of the protests and riots that have swept the country since George Floyd’s death in police custody.

AG Barr Says There ‘Could Be’ More Charges In Durham Probe

Attorney General William Barr said Wednesday that more charges are possible in the investigation led by John Durham, the U.S. attorney investigating the origins of the Trump-Russia probe.

Barr was asked about the status of the probe during an interview with NBC News. He declined to say whether Durham, the U.S. attorney for Connecticut, is nearing the end of the probe, which began in April 2018.

“Would you say — it’s unlikely that there’ll be further criminal charges?” NBC News reporter Pete Williams asked Barr.

“No, I wouldn’t say that at all, no,” Barr replied.

“So there could be?” Williams asked.

“Yeah, there could be,” said Barr.

Barr also declined to say whether the public will hear anything about a report from Durham prior to the election in November.

Barr tapped Durham to investigate several aspects of the U.S. government’s surveillance of the Trump campaign and Trump associates. Durham has investigated findings from a Justice Department report that found the FBI abused the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act as part of an effort to spy on former Trump aide Carter Page.

Former FBI attorney Kevin Clinesmith pleaded guilty in the probe on Aug. 19 to altering a June 2017 email from a CIA analyst to downplay Page’s relationship with the spy agency.

Clinesmith admitted to adding the phrase “not a ‘source'” to the CIA analyst’s email before passing it on to others at the FBI. Page was a source for the CIA from 2008 through 2013.

Barr has said that Durham is investigating whether Russian intelligence operatives fed disinformation to former British spy Christopher Steele, whose dossier the FBI used to obtain surveillance warrants against Page.

Durham is also reportedly investigating an Intelligence Community Assessment that said the Russian government meddled in the 2016 election specifically to help Donald Trump.

Barr said in an interview on Aug. 13 that there will be “significant” developments in the Durham probe before election day. He has also said that any developments in the investigation will not violate the so-called “60-day rule,” an informal policy by which the Justice Department avoids prosecutions in politically-charged investigations within 60 days of an election.

Prominent Disney Stakeholder Calls Company’s Embrace Of China ‘Wildly Offensive,’ Demands Answers

Disney’s decision to thank Chinese officials is tantamount to “normalizing genocide,” stockholder Justin Danhof told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Disney’s executives “will be hearing from us in a formal way” on the company’s embrace of China despite its alleged imprisonment of minority Muslims, Danhof said about the company’s other stakeholders.

Disney opened a $5.5 billion entertainment resort in Shanghai, China, in 2016, with former CEO Bob Iger calling the resort the “greatest opportunity since buying land in Florida.”

Disney’s embrace of China despite its reported oppression of the Uighur Muslims is akin to “normalizing genocide,” according to one company stockholder who claims investors are preparing to formally demand answers from the company.

It’s inconceivable that Disney was unaware that Xinjiang, China, is the location where China is imprisoning the country’s Uighur population, stockholder Justin Danhof told the Daily Caller News Foundation. Disney is facing intense criticism for filming in 2019 the live-action version of “Mulan” in Xinjiang, where the minority group is allegedly being interned.

“Disney will be hearing from us in a formal way on this issue. We will be engaging with Disney in that way,” Danhof said, referring to his fellow stockholders. “Other investors who are not aware of what Disney is doing will be made aware.”

Danhof did not elaborate on what he and the other stockholders supposedly have planned, noting that he does not like to discuss such internal matters.

In the credits for “Mulan,” Disney thanked a Chinese agency called Turpan Municipal Bureau of Public Safety, which is allegedly responsible for running internment camps housing China’s Muslim minority groups, the BBC reported Monday. Numerous reports show Uighurs held in concentration camps and subjected to forced sterilization.
