FWIW:

This could be the original post. I still can't find the "Our Town" publication that is referenced.

It would be more believable if the page itself did not have “Sound familiar” written on it. If it were a historical reference, that expression would not be there. But I think this could be a reprint of something and the book is referencing it.

The claim: Hitler defunded and eliminated police departments in Nazi Germany

A post shared by multiple Facebook users claims Nazi leader Adolf Hitler defunded and eliminated Germany’s police departments after he took power in 1933.

The post, which includes a photo of Austria at the time, claims then-Minister of the Interior Hermann Göring defunded and eliminated police departments in favor of extra-judicial “Brown Shirt” squads.

One Facebook user, whose post was shared more than 20,000 times, stood by his interpretation.

"When the original purpose was no longer alive, the actual police force was neutralized and the brown shirts took power, then Hitler funded the police loyal to him even more so. Ergo, he did defund the actual police," the Facebook user, Lee Weiss, told USA TODAY.

Our ruling: False

We rate this claim FALSE because it was not supported by our research. Our research confirms that German policing expanded and consolidated under Hitler and worked in conjunction with other paramilitary auxiliary police officers to help implement the Nazi regime’s brutal reign of terror.

I wouldn't send this out to anyone, anon. It's not a real newspaper clipping as far as any wide researching can determine, nor is it accurately reflective of what happened. That isn't to say that there are similarities but please be cautious in what you are touting as truth.
