Texans Leave Field, Chiefs Stand Arm-in-Arm for National Anthem, ‘Black National Anthem’

The Houston Texans could not decide, as a team, how to handle the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner and the “Black National Anthem.” Therefore, they decided as a team to remain in the locker room. The Chiefs, however, elected to stay and stood arm-in-arm during the playing of both songs.

The NFL highlighted social justice themes throughout the NBC pregame show. A show which featured several social justice themed songs by Alicia Keyes.

The Texans decided to remain in the locker room to avoid any “misinterpretation” of favoring one anthem over the other.

“NBC’s sideline reporter Michele Tafoya reports that the players made the decision so there would be “no misinterpretation” of celebrating one song and not the other,” Pro Football Talk reported.

According to Pro Football Talk:

The Chiefs locked arms along one end zone during Lift Every Voice and Sing and the accompanying video. They headed inside after that, leaving to a smattering of boos from the small crowd, Mike Jones of USA Today reports.

The Chiefs returned to the field for the national anthem, though. Defensive end Alex Okafor was the only player who took a knee. Some Chiefs, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes, locked arms.

The rest of the NFL Week 1 slate will get underway Sunday, September 13.

Dr. Fauci Warns "We Need To Hunker Down To Get Through This Fall And Winter Because It's Not Going To Be Easy"

In his latest round of interviews and appearances since reports emerged earlier this week that forces within DHHS were trying to muzzle the good doctor, Dr. Fauci said Thursday that despite the ongoing decline in daily COVID-19 cases, Americans shouldn't let up on the battle against the pandemic.

During a round table discussion at Harvard Medical School on Thursday, with the US closing in on 200,000 deaths and 6 million cases, Dr. Fauci warned that "we need to hunker down and get through this fall and winter, because it’s not going to be easy," Fauci said.

Regarding the emerging newest "hot spot" in the Midwest, and the looming threat of a second wave in the US like what's happening right now in France and Spain, Dr. Fauci warned that "it’s really quite frankly depressing to see that because you know what's ahead."

Fauci, one of the world's leading AIDS researchers since the 1980s, warned about the dangers of underestimating the virus. He compared the pandemic to the early days of HIV, in terms of how it escalated, and, in COVID-19's case, how it might continue to escalate.

"We've been through this before," he said. "Don't ever, ever underestimate the potential of the pandemic. And don't try and look at the rosy side of things."

Then again, Dr. Fauci's predictions haven't always been reliable, but we suppose that's another matter. The good doctor didn't mention President Trump or his comments as reported by Bob Woodward. Apparently, the doctor was unwilling to discuss this week's vaccine news as well as the doctor "

"We've really got to realize that from Day One, you don't know it all," he said. "And you've got to be flexible enough to change your recommendations, your guidelines, your policies, depending upon the information."

We imagine the press will be swift to point out that Dr. Fauci is once again covering for Trump, while also persisting with the doom and gloom message that he knows annoys Trump.

Pelosi: ‘Mother Earth Is Angry — She’s Telling Us with Hurricanes on the Gulf Coast, Fires in the West’

Thursday on MSNBC’s “The Reidout,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) attributed the wildfires plaguing her state and hurricanes that have batter the Gulf Coast to so-called climate change.

According to Pelosi, the natural disasters were a sign that “Mother Earth is angry.”

“Here we are, on the eve of 9/11, the 19th anniversary of 9/11, as we are filled with sadness, continued to be filled with sadness about those who lost their lives at that time and since from consequences of 9/11,” Pelosi said. “That was going to be our focus this week. We have these fires in California, and in the West, 16 people have died in Washington, Oregon, and California, including a firefighter and a 1-year-old baby. We — our firefighters have been so, very, very courageous.”

“Now, we’re, again, breaking records. Mother Earth is angry,” she continued. “She’s telling us — whether – she’s telling us with hurricanes on the Gulf Coast, fires in the West, whatever it is, that climate crisis is real and has an impact. I hear — I came over the weekend back to Washington. It was unhealthy and smoky, that was how they described the air then. Now, it has gotten much worse, and I’m hearing regularly on the ongoing from my constituents about the concern they have about the fires and the air quality, the loss of life, and over 34 million acres burned. That’s an historic number. Again, sadness over 9/11 complicated by our concern about the fires, at the same time as we’re dealing with a coronavirus and finding out that the president of the United States didn’t address it in the serious way that it needed to be addressed early on.”
