columns are ubiquitous.
I admit that ones carved like those are vanity pieces.
but basic point: people like to be in from the rain.
fire was a deal back then.
with columns in stock sizes, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 roman feet you could say 'I need 300 10 foot, 40 20 foot, 16 40 foot . . .
and then draw a graphic on where to place them and the builders would know what to do for the most part for simpler things.
It was too much of a hazing to even to try and visit that place.
I made my peace with it back in 2002 or 03, so whatever.
the crap symbolism is always usurped.
no matter what it is they will claim it and say it means 'we rule, you do not'.
