The Catholic Church has survived because it was founded by Christ himself and it has and will go through the sufferings and attacks that Christ went through. The money in the Church is not as great as many surmise. The source of it is donations, tithes, throughout history. The German princes supported the Lutheran movement, not so much because Luther was a reforming genius, but because they were tired of sending tithes, wealth to a corrupted leadership in Rome. They preferred to keep their money and spiritual authority in their kingdoms.
As an eminent Christian sociologist explained, the Church, since the time Christianity became lawful and favoured by emperors, had two dimensions – the Church of power (wealthy and often corrupt elite with secular aims were drawn into the Church by its authority and wealth) and the Church of truth (characterized by the saints and reformers that remained within the Church - those who followed the life and teachings of Christ).
