WA Gov. Jay Inslee: It's Time for Us to Call Wildfires What They Actually Are

The Pacific Northwest is covered in smoke. There are fires burning in California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Instead of addressing how and why we got to this place – where wildfires are far more common than not – politicians like California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and Washington State Gov. Jay Inslee (D) are quick to blame the phenomenon on "climate change." Instead of talking about how the states fail to properly manage the forest by thinning out trees, cutting down dead trees and prescribing controlled burns, they instantly jump to the climate change narrative.

In fact, Inslee sees this as a climate change issue so much that he believes we should rename wildfires to "climate fires."

"Right now we have a state this is just a tinderbox and the reason is because of the low humidity, the high temperatures, and, obviously, the winds," Inslee said during a press conference on Friday. "And these are conditions that are becoming much more frequent in our state. That's why three of the last five years we've had some of the worst fires in our state's history. And we know that is because our environment is changing. Our climate is changing. These are not just wildfires. These are climate fires."

According to KHQ, Washington State is seeing the second worst fire season on record, with more than 980 square miles burned over the last week.

As Seattle radio host Jason Randtz said: Democrats are in total control in Washington State. If they felt compelled to address the "climate crisis," they have the power to do so. Why haven't they then?

Then there's also an issue that has nothing to do with climate change: arson.

Inslee, Merkley criticize Trump for suggesting forest management to blame for wildfires

(NEW YORK) – Washington Gov. Jay Inslee and Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., slammed President Donald Trump for his comments redirecting blame for West Coast wildfires away from climate change.

"We know that climate change is making fires start easier, spread faster and intensify. And it is maddening right now that, when we have this cosmic challenge to our communities, with the entire West Coast of the United States on fire, to have a president to deny that … these are climate fires," Inslee told ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos on Sunday.

Inslee and Merkley appeared together on ABC's "This Week," a day after Trump told supporters at a campaign rally in Las Vegas that the wildfires raging across the West Coast were "about forest management."

"I spoke to the folks in Oregon, Washington. They're really having – they've never had anything like this. But, you know, it is about forest management. Please remember the words, very simple, 'forest management,'" the president said.

"The president has said it's all about raking the forest. It's just a – a big and devastating lie," Merkley said. "The Cascade snowpacks have gotten smaller. Our forests have gotten drier. Our ocean has gotten warmer and more acidic. And this has been happening steadily over the last several decades."

When pressed by Stephanopoulos about how people can respond to disinformation about the fires, including false rumors spreading on social media that antifascist activists started the blazes, Inslee replied, "vote."

"Get out there and vote against any politician like Donald Trump who has downplayed climate change, just like he's downplayed COVID," the Washington Democrat said. "(These fires don't) have a dang thing to do with thinning timber. It's just a bunch of malarkey."

Can't they just call it a peaceful protest?

Shit, church services need to be peaceful protests against evil.

GOP rally for St. Louis gun couple KO'd by Pennsylvania town

A Pennsylvania town has nixed a local GOP group’s plan for a rally this week with Mark and Patricia McCloskey, the St. Louis couple who made headlines when they waved guns at protesters in June, citing cornavirus restrictions.

The Northampton County Republican Committee sought to hold the rally featuring the McCloskeys on Thursday in Palmer Township's Fairview Park.

But Palmer Township rejected the request on Friday, saying on its Facebook page that an anticipated crowd of more than 250 attendees would violate Gov. Tom Wolf’s July ban on gatherings of that size to contain a recent rise in COVID-19 cases.

“In the interests of public health safety and the requirement of compliance with the Governor’s order… as well as the inability of Palmer Township to allocate public resources to monitor and ensure compliance with the current public health safety mandates for the proposed event … the Township has denied the request for permission to hold the event,” the township said.
