This is where the Bible must be understood as a useful source of historical understanding. Child sacrifice is a hallmark of Satanism/Luciferianism/small g god worship. Call it the faith of the Cabal. These are the peoples that the Hebrews were told to completely destroy. Everything from their camps and villages had to be burnt to ash as all had been corrupted beyond redemption. This is what causes so many to recoil at certain passages in the Bible - not understanding the underlying rationale of the order.
We are where we are now, because Saul did not do what he was told to do. And now, we must do what Saul did not, but the infection is now deeply woven into the fabric of our society. The task is immeasurably harder now.
