Targeted population control. Know the people you want to keep and dispose of based on their Google data, etc. ("Mouth Breathers" vs. Academics, etc) and you can create nasty flues, etc. It would appear random for a very long time. Throw in that epidemiologist working at YouTube and ask yourself why an anthro/epidem is working there at all?
