We have been told by the US Department of Justice that Guccifer 2.0 was a GRU officer.
However:
The persona fabricated its initial proof of hacking the DNC (apparently using Podesta attachments to construct it's Trump opposition research document) through a process that resulted in Russian metadata, Russian stylesheet entries and Russian error messages existing in the document. That document was then re-used as a template to create more tainted documents. The process that was used was clearly something beyond accidental mishandling of documents, it was deliberate.
The operation presented it's fabricated evidence as proof of hacking the DNC on it's blog and sent copies to journalists, however, it was not proof of hacking the DNC and none of Guccifer 2.0's hacking claims were ever verified.
The operation left Russian breadcrumbs behind through needless editing, deliberate processes and through decisions made about which end-points to use (proxy and VPN) and even tried attributing Russians to Julian Assange yet we're told this is an operation trying to deflect from Russian culpability (it looks like the exact opposite of that).
The operation left US breadcrumbs behind in the form of timezone indicators (reported on: here, here, here, here, here, here and here). This included in emails, while archiving files, blogging and social media activity. There are, in fact, more types of timezone indicator pointing at the persona's activities being in American timezones than Russian. However, they were generally more obscure and took a lot longer to find that the Russian breadcrumbs. The US breadcrumbs also appear to have been incidental to justifiable actions (see examples listed above) more often than not.
There are also locale indicators in some pieces of evidence that conflict with accompanying Russian indicators and that would be correct for a computer configured for US locale (decimal separator conflicting with Russian language and date format conflicting with Russian timezone offset).
When it comes to Guccifer 2.0, there is currently more hard evidence in the public domain that justifies questioning of the GRU attribution than there is hard evidence to support it. Much of this evidence also points at another possibility for Guccifer 2.0's origins
This site was created to archive evidence relating to Guccifer 2.0 and to document discoveries made regarding the persona and it's activities. Since this project started in 2017, many things have been discovered and most of these discoveries are inconsistent with what we are expected to believe.
