Explosive email adds to mountain of evidence saying under-siege premier KNEW about Army quarantine offer, discussed AND rejected it. So at his press conference on Wednesday, it's Daniel Andrews' time to come clean

Federal government offered troops to man hotel quarantine from March 27

NSW accepted 360 troops and Queensland took 100 but Victoria refused

Victorian premier Daniel Andrews previously denied turning down military help

But emails from the prime minister's office show it was offered several times

Daniel Andrews has stood by his claim that hundreds of ADF staff were not offered to help run Victoria's hotel quarantine system.

Emails shown to an inquiry on Tuesday revealed the prime minister's office repeatedly offered military support for the bungled program as early as April.

The evidence appeared to contradict Mr Andrews' claim in August that: 'It is fundamentally incorrect to assert that there were hundreds of ADF staff on offer and somehow, someone said no.'

But on Wednesday, Mr Andrews stood by that statement and said he would explain why when he appears at the inquiry next week.

'I stand by those statements and I'll be providing evidence,' he said.

The premier refused to go into detail, telling a journalist: 'All can I can say is the statements I've made are accurate… it's not appropriate for me to run debates back and forth.

'You're fine to ask the question but there's a live process going on. I'm not distant from it. I'll be part of that process next week.'

When the coronavirus quarantine policy was announced on 27 March, New South Wales accepted 360 troops and Queensland took 100 but Victoria refused any help, an inquiry heard on Tuesday.

On April 8, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet secretary Philip Gaetjens emailed his Victorian counterpart Chris Eccles to again offer ADF assistance.

Referencing how the ADF helped with security in NSW, Mr Gaetjens wrote: 'I am sure the Commonwealth would be willing to assist Victoria in a similar way if you wanted to reconsider your operating model'.

Mr Eccles replied: 'Thanks Phil' - but no request for help was made.

Instead, Victoria used private security guards who flouted social distancing rules, caught the virus in late May and helped spark the state's second wave which has killed more than 700 people.

It wasn't until June 24 that Victoria's emergency management commissioner Andrew Crisp made a request for 850 defence personnel to replace private security.

An email from the prime minister's office to the premier's office on that day shows the pair discussed the support.

But the request was rescinded a day later after the Department of Justice and Community Safety took over the program.

Trump Says COVID-19 Vaccine Coming ‘In A Matter Of Weeks’ But Health Experts Question Safety

President Trump said Tuesday a vaccine for COVID-19 could be approved "in a matter of weeks."

"I'm not doing it for political reasons. I want the vaccine fast," Trump said in an interview with Fox News. However, Trump gave only a vague estimate of when the potential vaccine actually could be ready, saying only: "We're going to have a vaccine in a matter of weeks. It could be four weeks; it could be eight weeks.”

The federal government told states to prepare for a coronavirus vaccine to be ready to distribute by Nov. 1.

The timeline raised concern among public health experts about an “October surprise.” Health officials are concerned a vaccine approval is being driven by political considerations ahead of the presidential election, rather than science, the Associated Press reported.

China also announced it plans to have a vaccine ready as early as November or December, increasing pressure on Trump to push out a vaccine prematurely, the South China Morning Post reported.

Premature approval would not be the first time the Trump administration had urged health officials to rush questionable treatments.

In spring, Trump promoted the use of the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine to treat coronavirus. An emergency use authorization was rescinded after researchers determined dangerous side effects were not worth the risk. In late August, Trump pushed an emergency use authorization for a treatment using blood plasma.

The plasma treatment came into question after Trump and the Food Drug Administration “grossly misrepresented data,” citing a stat that the treatment had reduced deaths by 35%, The New York Times reported. Scientists were taken aback by the way the administration framed the data, which appeared to have been calculated based on a small subgroup of hospitalized COVID-19 patients in a Mayo Clinic study. Patients in the study were less than 80 years old, not on ventilators, and received plasma known to contain high levels of virus-fighting antibodies within three days of diagnosis.

“For the first time ever, I feel like official people in communications and people at the FDA grossly misrepresented data about a therapy,” Dr. Walid Gellad, who leads the Center for Pharmaceutical Policy and Prescribing at the University of Pittsburgh, told The Times.

Research on the blood plasma treatment still was underway, but the president's emergency authorization halted most clinical trials.

Kobe Bryant's widow takes swipes at LA County sheriff on social media after his challenge to LeBron James

Vanessa Bryant has an ongoing lawsuit against the department

Vanessa Bryant, the widow of late NBA star Kobe Bryant, used social media to hit back against LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva on Tuesday, after the sheriff called on Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James to "match" and "double" the reward being offered for information on the suspect who ambushed two deputies in Compton over the weekend.

Villanueva announced this week that a $175,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect who was seen on surveillance footage shooting the deputies as they sat in their patrol car. Both were hospitalized in critical condition, and are expected to survive.

During an interview with KABC-AM following the attack, the sheriff declared, "This challenge is to LeBron James: I want you to match that and double that reward."

"I know you care about law enforcement," the sheriff continued. "You expressed a very interesting statement about your perspective on race relations and on officer-involved shootings and the impact that it has on the African American community, and I appreciate that. But likewise, we need to appreciate that respect for life goes across all professions."

Villanueva added, "Let's see what he does. I'll be very curious to see what his response is, if any."

James has been an outspoken critic of law enforcement in the wake of the death of George Floyd, who died in police custody in Minneapolis in late May after an officer was seen on video kneeling on Floyd's neck for more than 8 minutes.

The Lakers star player told reporters last month, "We are scared as black people in America. Black men, black women, black kids. We are, we are terrified."

James has yet to respond to Villanueva, but Vanessa Bryant did.

Fox News reported that "In a series of posts on her Instagram Story, Bryant spotlighted screenshots of tweets and articles blasting Villanueva and calling out his department over the leak of graphic photos following the tragic helicopter crash that killed her husband, Kobe Bryant, their young daughter Gianna, and seven others in January."

KCAL-TV noted, "Bryant is suing the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department after several deputies were found to be sharing graphic photos of the Jan. 26 helicopter crash that killed her husband, their 13-year-old daughter, Gigi, and seven others. Villanueva confirmed in March that eight deputies were involved in sharing the photos."

The outlet reported:

Bryant weighed in on the challenge in her Instagram Stories, reposting a tweet that cast doubt on the challenge to James and how the sheriff was unable to "hold his deputies accountable for photographing dead children." Another Story reposted another tweet asking how Villanueva can ask athletes, elected officials and civic leaders to trust the criminal justice system when "His sheriff's dept. couldn't be trusted to secure Kobe Bryant's helicopter crash scene, his deputies took and shared graphic photos of the crash victims."

Donald Trump Opposes National Mask Mandate During Pandemic: A Lot of People Don’t Want to Wear Masks

President Donald Trump on Tuesday repeated that he did not want to issue a national mask mandate during the coronavirus pandemic.

“There is, by the way, a lot of people don’t want to wear masks,” Trump said. “There are a lot of people that think the masks are not good.”

The president commented on masks after a voter from an ABC News town hall hosted by George Stephanopoulos asked him why he did not support a national mask mandate.

He recalled witnessing waiters serving at a restaurant touching their masks to adjust them and then touching the plates.

“The concept of a mask is good, but … you are constantly touching it, touching your face, touching plates,” he said. “There are people that don’t think masks are good.”

Trump recalled that former Vice President Joe Biden called for a national mask mandate during his convention speech, but backtracked on the idea.

“They checked out and they didn’t do it,” he said.

Trump also defended his initial response to the virus, despite complaints that he downplayed its deadly nature at the beginning of the crisis.

“I didn’t downplay it,” Trump said. “I actually, in many ways, I up-played it in terms of action.”

He argued that his decision to ban travel from China saved millions of lives, at a time when Democrats criticized the idea.

“I was so far ahead of my closing,” he said, noting that Biden was talking about the threat as exaggerated and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was calling for people to come visit Chinatown in San Francisco.

He also defended his statement that the virus would disappear.

“It’s going to disappear, George,” he said. “We’re going to get back.”

He said that the development of vaccines and herd immunity would help the virus go away.

“It’s going to be herd development, and that’s going to happen. that will all happen,” he said. “But with a vaccine, I think it will go away very quickly.”

Scientific American Endorses Joe Biden for President

The magazine Scientific American backed 2020 Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden in its first-ever presidential endorsement in the magazine’s 175-year history.

The editors wrote that they felt “compelled” to support Biden in his effort to defeat President Donald Trump, citing Trump’s handling of the coronavirus crisis and his skepticism on issues such as climate change.

“The evidence and the science show that Donald Trump has badly damaged the U.S. and its people — because he rejects evidence and science,” the editors wrote in the magazine’s October issue.

“That is why we urge you to vote for Joe Biden, who is offering fact-based plans to protect our health, our economy and the environment. These and other proposals he has put forth can set the country back on course for a safer, more prosperous, and more equitable future,” the magazine’s endorsement continued.

The editorial focuses primarily on Trump’s response to the pandemic and his attempts to downplay the situation. At least 194,700 Americans have died of the coronavirus as of Tuesday afternoon, according to a New York Times database.

The endorsement comes with fewer than 50 days until the presidential election and the country dealing with multiple crises other than the coronavirus pandemic, including deadly wildfires on the West Coast and a heavy hurricane season in the Atlantic — especially around the Gulf of Mexico.

Woodward: I Don’t Know if Trump Understands ‘What Is Real and What Is Unreal’

Author Bob Woodward said on Tuesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” that he questioned if President Donald Trump had “got it straight in his head what is real and what is unreal.”

Woodward said, “Now, this morning, he was asked about the book on Fox News, and he said he read it last night. OK.”

He continued, “He said it’s ‘very boring’ and then the anchor on Fox News said —thank you— asked him if it is accurate? You know what the president said? I mean, I want to be accurate here. He said, ‘It’s OK. I mean, it’s fine.’ And, you know, he’d been out saying it’s a political hit job and all of these things. I don’t know to be honest whether he’s got it straight in his head what is real and what is unreal.”

He added, “That is why at the end of the book, I say, in totality, my judgment is this is the wrong man for the job. How can you have the experience of living in this White House the way I have for the last four-plus years? And having not just discussions with him but people in the White House, people in the CIA, people in the Pentagon, people in the State Department trying to get the whole picture of what this administration is. How can you have that experience and not reach that conclusion?”

Cooper said, “What you just said, though, is pretty terrifying and that he doesn’t know what is — I don’t want to paraphrase you incorrectly, but the difference between what is real and not real and in his head, he doesn’t know —”

Woodward said, “The evidence is right in the way—”

Cooper said, “I agree with you, but it’s terrifying to hear you say it, given the fact you interviewed so many presidents. Is there any other president you interviewed who you would say the same thing of, they don’t know the difference?”

Woodward said, “No.”

US to Stop Using Russian Rocket Engine RD-180 in Mid-2020s - United Launch Alliance

US company United Launch Alliance (ULA) plans to end operation of the Atlas-5 launch vehicle with the Russian RD-180 engine in the mid-2020s, Julie Arnold, an ULA spokeswoman, told Sputnik.

The RD-180 engine is manufactured at the Energomash rocket engine manufacturer (an enterprise of Russian state space corporation Roscosmos) and is used in the first stage of the Atlas-5 rocket. ULA provides launch services with Atlas-5.

According to Energomash, 116 RD-180 engines have been sent to the United States, of which 91 have already been used. In 2020, delivery of six more RD-180s is expected.

The United States is developing a Vulcan launch vehicle to replace the Atlas-5, the first stage of which will be equipped with the BE-4 engines by Blue Origin.

There are plans to use the RD-180 in Russia - in the medium-lift Soyuz-6 rockets and the super-heavy Yenisei.

Under the Media's Berlin Wall of Truth Suppression

You would think that with the miracle of modern technology and the insistence on transparency in government affairs, it would be possible for both the American people and the American president to share the same baseline on certain important facts.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t take account of the role of the mainstream media as the self-appointed protectors of the people. The press can promote any agenda they choose and destroy any person who gets out of line. Needless to say, Donald Trump gets “out of line” every day — he marches to the beat of his own drummer, as Thoreau said, and the press can’t stand it. So they engage in a near constant attack to destroy him and his presidency.

Jeffrey Goldberg’s reliance on unverified anonymous sources for his Atlantic hit piece accusing the president of being disdainful of slain American soldiers by calling them “losers” and “suckers” is a typical tactic. The media exploit and exacerbate public misperceptions of Trump that they themselves planted in the first place. Did Trump call John McCain a loser? Undoubtedly. Has he ridiculed the generals who have gotten us into forever wars that have cost the lives of thousands of American soldiers? Yes, frequently. But is there any evidence he said the things Goldberg alleges? Yeah, the testimony of five sources so brave they won’t go on the record with their complaints — claims that have been refuted by 19 real people with real names who were actually with the president in France when the alleged incidents occurred.

Of course, the media don’t stop with the initial hit job. Without missing a beat, they use the refuted stories by Goldberg and others to create the illusion that there is a united front of opposition to Trump. Showing interviews with random soldiers or veterans saying they are not “losers” promotes a “party line” version of the truth that is intended to shame the administration, and especially weak-kneed Republican senators, into bowing to the far-left agenda. But it is not news, and it is not fair.

Milwaukee Trump Supporter Arrested for Brandishing a Gun at Black Lives Matter Mob That Was Surrounding His Home

A Milwaukee man has been arrested after pulling a gun on a mob of Black Lives Matter supporters who were surrounding his home.

It is currently unclear who the man is or why the mob was at his house, but he did have a “Trump Train” flag hanging outside.

Members of the mob claimed on social media that their actions were justified because he is a “racist” and has a confederate flag.
