So the state of Georgia, where I live, has been trying to woo Amazon to build its headquarters here.
As if the traffic isn't bad enough already. The state is blowing off a fortune in tax revenue by letting the wretched TV/movie industry operate here for basically free, with a ton of subsidies and state-awarded Crackerjack toys. The state will likely regret their decision in years to come, hindsight being so much better than foresight.
The state attorney general has already cranked up #DemandAnEnd in cooperation with the mayor because trafficking is a BIG problem. The airport is a hub for it. Interstates I-75, I-20 and I-85 all converge in Atlanta, and the number of huge tractor-trailer distribution centers is astonishing. The Norfolk Southern Intermodal Rail Yard in Austell is a massive industrial complex where shipping containers are switched from rail to truck transports, and handily located outside the I-285 loop (truck traffic is heavily limited inside 285). Look it up on Google Earth, holy shit. So– the potential for traffickers is basically unlimited. There are endless places for the evil to hide.
Just tweeted @HNIJohnMiller's first-rate expose of what it's actually like to work in an Amazon Distribution Center, and included the key word PLANTATION to…
:: Mayor of Atlanta Keisha Bottoms
:: Fulton County Commission
:: Atlanta Regional Commission
:: Every relevant black leader I could think of
If the black community in Atlanta and/or Georgia decides something ain't happening – it ain't happening.
