I thought the same thing at the time the raid was announced. There are more problem sitting judges though than those appointed during the Obama years. It goes back to at least Clinton.
In an interview during the presidential campaign, one of Clinton's henchmen mentioned that Bill never nominated the most qualified from the pool of potential candidates for judicial openings. At the time, this guy was confused because the ones selected always had something in-your-face wrong in their backgrounds which would ordinarily disqualify him/her. When reading Eagle Forum's document on RBG last night, I thought about that interview and wondered what's in the background of his other judicial appointments.
During the Clinton years, the Senate (where political appointees are confirmed) had a slight Dem majority his first two years then a slight Rep majority the remaining time. So, probably enough in both parties in the Senate were in on what was occurring.
