Trump Says He Isn’t Prepared To Sign Oracle-TikTok Deal Because He Hasn’t Reviewed It — ‘Won’t Be Happy’ If Reporting On The Terms Proves True

President Donald Trump told reporters during Wednesday’s coronavirus press briefing that he is not prepared to sign off on the proposed Oracle-TikTok partnership as he has not yet reviewed the terms.

The president further indicated that if public reporting regarding the deal is true — specifically the provision where TikTok’s parent company would retain a majority stake in the partnership — he could block the deal.

“No I’m not prepared to sign off on anything,” Trump said in response to a question from Bloomberg’s Mario Parker. “I have to see the deal. We need security after what we have seen, with respect to China and what is going on, we want security. I will let you know. They will report to me tomorrow morning.”

“We don’t like that,” the president added on the idea of ByteDance retaining a majority stake in the partnership. “That hasn’t been told to me yet. That has been reported but not told to me. It could be accurate reporting for a change. If that’s the case I won’t be happy with that, assuming that’s China and I think it is.”

Anti-Mask Shoppers March Through Target, Urge Others to Liberate Faces: ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It!’

A group of anti-mask demonstrators marched through a Florida Target to Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” encouraging others to liberate their faces by removing their masks.

The group reportedly marched through a Target in Ft. Lauderdale on Tuesday, encouraging shoppers around them to take off their masks as well:

“Alright. We’re tired of shopping with masks on,” a man says while holding up his phone as “We’re Not Gonna Take It” began to play in the background.

“And now, we’re taking our masks off because we’re done with it,” he said as others began taking their masks off in the store.

“Breathe. Breathe. You’re Americans. Breathe,” one woman said as she marched through the store.

Cristina Gomez, the Florida woman who made headlines after speaking out against a mask mandate before the Palm Beach County Commission meeting over the summer, was among the protesters. During the meeting, she stated that masks are killing people and told commissioners that “We the People are waking up” while warning against the “devil’s law.”

“Take off that mask. That’s the only way it’s going to work if we all unite!” she exclaimed. “It’s all about choice.”

Video shows the group marching through the store singing along to the song.

“We’re not gonna take it anymore,” they sang as they marched through the aisles, encouraging others to join them.

One shopper briefly joined the protesters, taking off her mask and dancing as they cheered.

“We’re not gonna take it anymore,” she exclaimed. Shortly after, another woman took off her mask, earning her a “you go girl, alright!” from a member of the group.

“This is America,” a man said as the group eventually exited the store.

One protester, Nathan Babcock, told the HuffPost they decided to make a statement because they have had “no voice in what is being done to us.”

“That’s why we have had to organize and protest the lockdown,” he said, explaining that it is “your right to do what you want, like it’s my right to do what I want.”

“If you want to wear a mask and think [it] makes you safer … That’s absolutely your right, 100 percent. Just don’t force me to wear a mask,” he added.

Target is one of several major retailers that require customers to wear a face-covering in stores.

“While nearly 90% of our stores already require guests to wear masks or face coverings due to local and state regulations, we’ll be expanding that requirement to include guests at all stores nationwide as of Aug. 1,” Target announced in July.

“For those without a mask, team members will provide disposable masks free-of-charge,” the announcement continued. “Young children and those with underlying medical conditions will not be required to wear a mask.”

Former Missile Defense Agency Chief Harassed Female Employee for 7 Years, IG Finds

The civilian head of the Defense Department's office overseeing strategic missile defense sexually harassed three female colleagues, one over the course of seven years – subjecting them to unwanted attention and touching, and even on one occasion taking an inappropriate photograph without permission, according to a new report from the Defense Department Inspector General.

Former Missile Defense Agency Executive Director John H. James retired Feb. 29 after a 37-year career in the Defense Department. He'd been reassigned Nov. 24, 2019 to the job of assistant director for Cybersecurity amid an investigation into his conduct.

The DoD IG report into allegations of James' sexual harassment and misconduct was completed July 13, and the findings were first reported Wednesday by USA Today.

The 25-page report, with testimony from 11 witnesses, lays out a detailed timeline of James' substantiated inappropriate activities over the course of his tenure at MDA.

"We determined that from 2012 through 2019, Mr. James repeatedly sought out and made deliberate, unwelcomed physical contact with Employee 1, over whom he had no direct supervisory authority and with whom he would normally have little or no professional interaction," the IG report stated. "He often sought her out at MDA events, asked her for her personal information, made inappropriate comments to her, and engaged in other inappropriate conduct that implied a personal or sexual interest in her."

James' alleged harassment of that employee continued, according to the report, even after he had received a letter of counseling warning him about his behavior toward another woman.

While the report largely focused on a pattern of alleged harassment and unwanted pursuit of the woman identified as Employee 1, the report found James also massaged the neck of a second employee on two separate occasions, saying, in one case, "I love this." James denied the neck-massaging episodes took place.

He was also found to have told a third woman to open her coat so he could see her sweater in the context of an office ugly-sweater contest – an incident the woman reported, leading to the letter of counseling. James denied he had intended to harass the woman with this comment.

In the case of Employee 1, the report also found that James' alleged behavior had affected the larger work environment, as other employees sought to shield her from his attentions. He frequently invited her to his office without a professional reason, according to the report; pressured her to dance with him at a holiday party; and in one instance, took a photo of her clothed buttocks with her cell phone, the report states. James said he never took that photo, adding it was something he wouldn't do.

Recently discovered prayer by renowned 13th-century Talmudist Ramban goes online

Poetic prayer written by Spanish rabbi, also known as Nachmanides, translated into English and now available on website of the National Library of Israel

JTA — A recently discovered poetic prayer written by the Ramban, or Nachmanides, the 13th-century Spanish rabbi and renowned author of commentaries on the Bible and the Talmud, has been translated into English and is now available on the website of the National Library of Israel.

The Ramban, also a leading kabbalist, was known by the initials in his name, Rabbi Moshe son of Nachman. He was born in Catalonia, but was forced to leave at the age of 70 after being ordered to defend his faith against Pablo Christiani, a Jewish convert to Christianity. Eventually he moved to Jerusalem, where he is credited with reestablishing Jewish life and settlement in the city.

The prayer falls in the category of bakashot, or supplications, which was a common form among Iberian Jews of the period. It was published in Hebrew for the first time last year, appearing in Idan Perez’s Sidur Catalunya, the first printed prayer book of the Catalonian liturgy and ritual used by the Ramban and the once-thriving Jewish communities of Catalonia, Valencia and Majorca, which were ultimately decimated by the Spanish Inquisition and Expulsion over 500 years ago.

The first few lines read:

Please, O Lord who creates without having a creator∙

And who conceived a thought and power from potential to action, brought forth light which illuminates all of the lights from the beginning until the end, for all of the illuminations∙

The words of God are pure words (Psalms 12:7)∙

Please, with your unseen, refined and pure power, establish my thoughts in your service, in awe, in trembling and in reverence∙

You have brought to light every mystery

It was found in a manuscript written just after the Expulsion that was likely used by Catalonian exiles living in Provence. It is now held in Rome’s Casanatense Library.

The manuscript can be seen online as part of Ktiv, the National Library of Israel-led initiative to open digital access to all of the world’s Hebrew manuscripts.

Senate Republicans signal openness to working with Biden

Senate Republicans are signaling they are open to cutting deals with Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden if he wins the White House in November.

GOP senators — adding the caveat that they are supportive of President Trump — say there is room for agreement with a Biden administration, particularly on areas like trade or immigration, if they hold on to the Senate majority in November.

Sen. John Thune (S.D.), the No. 2 Senate Republican, noted that typically new administrations get a honeymoon period and a divided government could force compromises.

“There would be opportunities. … The one thing about having a divided government, it forces people to come together and some of the best and biggest accomplishments in our history have been accomplished during a time of divided government,” Thune said.

One GOP senator predicted that a Republican-controlled Senate could be beneficial to Biden because it would give him a buffer from progressives in his party who, if Democrats controlled both chambers, would likely try to drive him to the left.

“So he’s not constantly fighting ‘Why can’t we go one step further?’ on all the stuff they’ll want to do. The best thing that could happen to Joe Biden would be if there was a Republican Senate,” the senator said.

The pledge to work with Biden comes as he’s led Trump in a steady stream of recent polls by an average of 6.2 percentage points, according to RealClearPolitics. The battle for the Senate remains a toss-up, according to political handicappers, keeping open the prospect of a divided government in 2021.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said he would be willing to try to help Biden cut legislative deals, though he questioned if Democrats, who are expected to keep control of the House, would go along.

“It’s hard to project what the attitudes would be in the House, but I would try to help him,” Graham said.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who would chair the Senate Judiciary Committee if Republicans hold on to the majority, pointed to energy, agriculture and trade as areas where he thought the two parties could reach agreements. Grassley served for decades with Biden in the Senate, including both working on the Judiciary Committee.

“I would imagine on the next farm bill,” Grassley said. “I imagine that Biden will pursue a U.K. free trade agreement, maybe some other free trade agreements. … If he’s for TPA [trade promotion authority] we could surely work together on that.”

Biden, who left the Senate in 2009 to be former President Obama’s vice president, has deep ties with some members of the Republican caucus, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.).

He’s played up his knowledge of the Senate as an advantage that could help him work with GOP senators to break the years of gridlock that have largely bogged down the ability to move major pieces of legislation through the chamber.

Saudis To Continue ‘Alternative Normalization’ For The Moment, Despite Intense US Pressure

The US and Israel are using all means of persuasion within their considerable repertoire of diplomatic, military, economic and other measures to get as many Arab and Islamic countries as possible to sign ‘peace agreements’ and formalize their relations with Israel. The recent agreement between Bahrain and Israel to this effect has refocused attention on the Saudis given their substantial influence over Bahrain, and whether and if so under what circumstances the Saudis will formally decide to normalize relations with Israel.

There have been reports in the media for at least several years to the effect that Saudi Arabia and Israel have been furtively expanding their relations through unofficial contacts and agreements, including in terms of military cooperation. In most reports this is ascribed to their mutual enmity towards Iran. For example, in 2018:

The Swiss newspaper Basler Zeitung revealed the fact that there exists a “secret alliance” between Saudi Arabia and Israel, intended “to restrain Iran’s expansion in the region, despite the absence of any official relations between the two countries.”

“There is an intensive secret cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Israel in order to achieve the main goal of curbing Iran’s expansion project and undermining its regional ambitions,” said the report. It added that “there exists indeed military cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Tel Aviv.”

According to the newspaper, “Riyadh seeks to intercept missiles coming from Yemen. Observers from Tel Aviv and Riyadh are confirming that cooperation between the security services of Israel and Saudi Arabia is very advanced, although Saudi Arabia has been officially denying any sort of cooperation with Israel.”

Earlier, Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz said in a radio interview that “there were several contacts with Saudi Arabia, but they were kept secret at the request of Riyadh.” LINK

A few reports have also noted that another topic that has been emphasized is the acquisition of spying equipment, so that the Saudis can monitor the communications and activities of critics and dissidents. The latter aspect of increasing cooperation received considerably more attention – for a while – after the murder of Jamal Khashoggi in a Saudi consulate in Turkey. In 2018 The New York Times reported:

A Saudi dissident close to the murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi has filed a lawsuit charging that an Israeli software company helped the royal court take over his smartphone and spy on his communications with Mr. Khashoggi.

The lawsuit puts new pressure on the company, the NSO Group, and on the government of Israel, which licenses the company’s sales to foreign governments of its spyware, known as Pegasus. More broadly, the suit also calls new attention to Israel’s increasingly open alliance with Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf monarchies.

Saudi Arabia and its allies like the United Arab Emirates have never recognized the Jewish state but have quietly found common cause with it in opposition to Iran. Since the Arab Spring uprisings, Israel and those monarchies also appear to have found an alignment of interest in defending the established Arab order.

Poland accuses Russian air traffic controllers of DELIBERATELY crashing president’s plane, seeks their arrest

Polish prosecutors are now seeking the arrest of three Russian air traffic controllers at the Smolensk-Severny airport, accusing them of deliberately causing the crash that killed President Lech Kaczynski in 2010.

Investigators have “applied to the district court of the Warsaw-Mokotow region with a motion for the temporary arrest” of the three men, Ewa Bialik, spokesperson for the Prosecutor General’s Office, told reporters on Wednesday.

“The charges brought against the air traffic controllers relate to the deliberate provocation of a plane crash that resulted in the death of many people,” she added.

Kaczynski and his wife were among the 96 people on board the Polish Air Force Tu-154M that crashed outside Smolensk on April 10, 2010, while attempting a landing in thick fog. Initial investigations by both Polish and Russian officials found no technical problem with the aircraft, and blamed pilot error.

Bill Gates doubts FDA & CDC can be trusted on Covid & vaccines. Sure, let’s trust a non-doctor billionaire who pays media instead

As plutocratic philanthropist Bill Gates urges Americans to reject government regulators and embrace private-sector vaccine developers – which he both funds and profits from – it’s worth asking why people still trust this man.

Gates bemoaned the decline of the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control, the US’ two chief health regulatory agencies in charge of monitoring drug safety, in a pair of interviews on Tuesday, insisting they’d become politicized servants of the Trump administration. Instead, he argued, Americans should trust private-sector pharmaceutical companies – specifically Pfizer – to save the day with a Covid-19 vaccine, possibly even before the year’s end!

Like much of the advice Gates has spouted during the Covid-19 pandemic, his dismissal of the regulators was self-serving and unsupported by medical expertise or evidence. Worse, it was reported uncritically by the media establishment, many of whom neglected to disclose the money they receive from the Gates Foundation alongside their fawning coverage of its founder.
