SEATTLE – A woman was found murdered at Seattle's Cal Anderson Park and the man suspected in her slaying has been identified as Travis Berge, a habitual offender who was engaged in an hours-long standoff with police that spanned the overnight and stretched into Thursday morning.
Police were called to the Capitol Hill park around 8 p.m. Wednesday evening to help paramedics who were performing CPR on an unconscious woman. She was pronounced dead a short time later.
Investigators said the woman had been murdered although they did not provide an official cause of death.
As officers went to the pump house, the man barricaded himself inside the building and refused to exit. Negotiators and even neighbors tried to coax him to leave, but to no avail. Eventually a SWAT team was called to assist.
Around 12:30 a.m., SWAT officers entered the pump house and found the man dead inside a 10-foot tank which contained about 50 gallons of a 12% bleach solution, officers said. HAZMAT crews were called to the scene to the medical examiner retrieve the body.
