Mining giant BHP has conceded it submitted an application to destroy Aboriginal heritage sites at its $5 billion South Flank iron ore project in the Pilbara, despite opposition from local traditional owners.

The WA Government granted approval to destroy dozens of sites just days after Rio Tinto destroyed 46,000-year-old rock shelters at Juukan Gorge in the Pilbara.

BHP is the second major miner to appear at a federal parliamentary inquiry investigating Rio Tinto's destruction of the ancient sites.

BHP on Thursday told the inquiry that representatives of the Banjima traditional owners "raised concerns in the field" ahead of the Section 18 application last October, and also wrote to the WA Government in April saying they were opposed to archaeological sites being damaged.

Section 18 of WA's Aboriginal Heritage Act legalises the destruction of Aboriginal sites, and the state's Aboriginal Affairs Minister Ben Wyatt has since started a review of the act.

BHP's David Bunting said the concerns were first raised when mine planners, heritage staff and traditional owners were in the field discussing the potential heritage impacts ahead of the company's application.

"At that time the traditional owners raised their thoughts on the significance of those sites and also talked about mitigation around those sites," Mr Bunting said.

"You're right that concerns were raised at that time."

However, he added the Banjima representatives said they did not object to the Section 18 application being lodged.

Walmart Announces Pay Raises For 165,000 Hourly Workers As It Eliminates Their Quarterly Bonuses

Walmart announced sweeping changes to staffing in its U.S. stores, which include restructuring the leadership roles at its Supercenters and raising pay for some of its salaried and hourly employees, according to a company press release on Thursday.

The retail giant announced the following new positions: store lead (formerly co-manager), coach (formerly assistant manager) and team lead (formerly department manager). Walmart said its new "team-based operating model" is similar to one implemented Sam’s Club over the past year and in Neighborhood Market stores this year. According to Walmart, the move will increase cross-training opportunities for employees.

Across the store, we’re creating small teams of associates who will be cross-trained and given ownership of the work and their area for everything from in-stock to visual standards. This means they’ll gain more skills and be able to support associates who want to take time off or just need extra help during a busy shift. For example, associates who prepare fresh food will be trained to maintain pricing and standards in their area – giving them broader skill sets that allow them to help customers and grow their own careers.

Additionally, Walmart will raise wages for its salaried digital, asset protection and auto care center assistant manager employees. The new wage for the hourly team lead roles start at between $18 and $21 an hour and can go up to $30 an hour in Supercenters. Minimum wages for hourly associates in the deli and bakery areas are going up from $11 an hour to $15 an hour or higher. Pay will also be raised for several hourly auto care center roles with most getting an increase of $1 or more per hour.

In total, about 165,000 hourly staffers will see a raise, Walmart said in a memo outlining the move, but the program will also trim the ranks of leaders per store, and could prompt some to leave. That said, the company clarifies that all current employees will continue to be able to work at Walmart, even if they are not selected for one of the new roles.

“For example, associates who prepare fresh food will be trained to maintain pricing and standards in their area – giving them broader skill sets that allow them to help customers and grow their own careers,” the release said.

As Bloomberg notes, the changes are part of a broader rethinking of how to most efficiently deploy Walmart’s 1.5 million-person U.S. workforce in a more digital age. The pandemic, which has spurred demand for groceries and household essentials, shocked supply chains and boosted e-commerce, has tested workers’ patience, with some shoppers railing about missing items and others refusing to adhere to mask-wearing mandates. "Once-mundane tasks, like store cleaning, have become critical."

For affected employees, the pay raises will be implemented in October, taking the place of an annual increase typically received in February or April. Of course, there is a catch, because while WalMart is hiking base wages it will also eliminate quarterly bonuses for most workers: for workers in these hourly roles, the increase will take the place of Walmart’s regular quarterly bonus and become part of their base pay going forward.

"These associates will continue to be eligible to receive quarterly bonuses for Q3 and Q4 of this year. When we’ve asked associates, the overwhelming majority say their hourly wages are the most important part of their pay, well ahead of quarterly bonuses,” Walmart said in its release.

Furthermore, not everyone will benefit: But not everyone will benefit. U.S. Chief Operating Officer Dacona Smith declined to estimate how many associates won’t be selected for one of the new roles, but said they can remain in a “similar position” and their current pay won’t be adjusted until October 2021.

"I don’t anticipate us having a large problem" of losing staff because of the changes, Smith said.

DHS lies again about REAL-ID

As it’s been doing for years, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is still lying about the state of compliance by states with the Federal REAL-ID Act of 2005.

The latest DHS whopper is this DHS press release issued September 10, 2010:

The DHS claims that “All U.S. States [Are] Now Compliant” with the REAL-ID Act. But as we’ve noted many times before, the REAL-ID Act explicitly and unambiguously requires that to be “compliant”, a state must “Provide electronic access to all other States to information contained in the motor vehicle database of the State.”

How many states do that today? At most, 28, not all 50, as shown in the map below:

The only mechanism available for states that want to share their drivers’ license databases is the outsourced “State to State” (S2S) system operated by the American Association of Motior Vehicle Administators (AAMVA), a private contractor not subject to the Federal or any state Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) or other laws proviidng transparency and accountability for government agencies. Despite the misleading name, S2S is not a mechanism for messaging directly from state to state. It’s a centralized system which depends on a central national ID database, SPEXS, aggregated from state drivers’ license and ID data.

Here’s the latest list released by AAMVA of states that are particpating in S2S. Each particpating state has uploaded information about all drivers’ licenses and state ID to SPEXS. Together these 28 states include substantially less than half the U.S. population:

Pennsylvania Supreme Court Sides with Democrats: Mail-In Ballot Deadline Extended 3 Days After Election

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania’s highest court gave the Democratic Party a series of victories Thursday, including one allowing repairs to glitches and gray areas in the battleground state’s fledgling mail-in voting law and another that kicked the Green Party’s presidential candidate off the November ballot.

The state Supreme Court, which has a 5-2 Democratic majority, granted the Democratic Party’s request to order a three-day extension of Pennsylvania’s Election Day deadline to count mailed-in ballots. And it ruled that the Green Party’s candidate for president did not strictly follow procedures for getting on the ballot in November and cannot appear on it.

Ballots that are eligible to be counted must be postmarked by the time polls close and be received by county election boards at 5 p.m. on Nov. 6, three days after the Nov. 3 election. Republicans have opposed changing that deadline.

Most states make Election Day the deadline, but 18 states — about half of which backed President Donald Trump in the 2016 election — have a post-Election Day deadline.

The court’s ruling also authorized the use of satellite election offices and drop boxes by counties.

Areas with heavy concentrations of registered Democratic voters, Philadelphia and its heavily populated suburbs, are planning to use satellite election offices and drop boxes to help relieve the pressure from an avalanche of mailed-in ballots expected in the presidential election.

Republicans had sought to outlaw the use of such drop boxes or satellite election offices, saying they are not explicitly authorized under state law.

In a slightly earlier decision Thursday, the high court along the same partisan lines reversed a ruling by a Republican judge in a lower court on the candidacy of Green Party presidential nominee Howie Hawkins.

The court’s two Republicans agreed the Green Party did not meet the law’s requirements, but, in a dissenting opinion, said it might be possible to allow the Green Party to fix it retroactively.

The Hawkins and Biden campaigns did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Democrats have long gone to court to keep Green Party candidates off the ballot, worried that they will siphon otherwise liberal voters in close contests against Republicans in the politically polarized state.

Netflix’s ‘Cheer’ Star, Biden Campaign Surrogate, Jerry Harris Charged With Producing Child Pornography

Netflix’s Cheer star and former Joe Biden presidential campaign surrogate Jerry Harris has been arrested and charged with producing child pornography.

The Netflix star has been arrested on production of child pornography charges, per the U.S. Attorney’s office in Chicago, according to a report by the Chicago Sun-Times. A criminal complaint filed on Thursday alleges that Harris had asked for pornographic images and videos from two 14-year-old boys, adding that the boys’ parents found the photos and videos on one of the child’s phones.

“Law enforcement was recently contacted by the parent (Individual A) of two 14 year old male children (Minors 1 and 2) regarding allegations that an individual named Jerry Harris had contacted Minor 1 and Minor 2 online and repeatedly solicited child pornography images and videos from Minors 1 and 2,” read the complaint.

“Minor 1 stated that between December 2018 when Harris first contacted him online, and March 2020 when Minor 1 stopped speaking to Harris, at Harris’ request, Minor 1 had sent Harris over a dozen photographs and videos of Minor 1 depicting Minor 1’s penis and anus,” the affidavit continued. “Minor 1 stated that Harris sent Minor 1 photographs of HARRIS’ penis, as well as videos of HARRIS masturbating. Minor 1 informed Harris that he was 13 years old in their initial online encounter.”

The affidavit further stated that the underage teen reported “one in-person encounter” between Harris and the minor, in which the Netflix star “solicited oral sex from Minor 1 in a bathroom at a cheerleading event both Harris and Minor 1 attended.”

“Minor 1 also reported a second attempt by HARRIS to meet Minor 1 for an in-person sexual encounter when Minor 1 was at a cheer competition that HARRIS also attended,” the complaint read.

The affidavit also states that Harris admitted to asking one of the underage teens to take photos and videos of his “penis and buttocks and to send the photos and videos to Harris through Snapchat, knowing that [the minor] was 13 years old.”

“Harris further admitted to engaging in ongoing Snapchat conversations with [the minor] beginning in December 2018 and continuing through March 2020,” continued the complaint, adding that the Netflix star “acknowledged to law enforcement that he in fact received such photos and videos” from the underage teen.

Joe Biden: ‘No Deportations’ for Illegal Aliens Until They Commit a Felony

Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden is again vowing that he will not deport any illegal aliens in his first 100 days in office until they commit a felony against an American citizen.

During an interview with Noticias Telemundo, Biden reiterated his plan to end deportations for at least 100 days, saying that only illegal aliens who commit felonies will be deported.

After the deportation freeze, Biden has said he will prioritize convicted illegal alien felonies, indicating that illegal aliens would have to commit felonies and be convicted before they are ever deported from the United States.

“There are going to be no deportations in the first 100 days of my [administration] … freeze deportations for the first 100 days and the only people who will be deported are people who committed a felony while here,” Biden said.

“I can only imagine what it’s like to see a family member deported … to me it’s all about family, beginning, middle, and end … that’s not going to happen in my administration, it’s simply not going to happen,” Biden continued.

Biden said his immigration plan includes amnesty for all 11 million to 22 million illegal aliens:

We’re going to reinstate [DACA] and then [DACA illegal aliens are] going to be part of what I’m going to send to the United States Congress is a total immigration bill to provide a pathway to citizenship for undocumented people in the United States of America. This is … it makes no sense why we wouldn’t do that. They’re part of the reason why we’re growing.

Biden — who oversaw the deportation of thousands of illegal aliens between 2008 and 2016, but now denounces President Trump for a similar policy — has attempted to angle his national immigration plan to appease the open borders lobby that has blasted him for failing to commit to ending all deportations of illegal aliens, regardless of criminal history.

As Breitbart News has reported, research finds that deporting the 11 million to 22 million illegal aliens saves American taxpayers billions of dollars, compared to the costs they are forced to pay when illegal aliens are allowed to stay.

Deporting every illegal alien in the country would amount to a cost savings of about $622 billion over the course of a lifetime. This indicates that deporting illegal aliens is six times less costly than what it costs American taxpayers to currently subsidize the millions of illegal aliens living in the U.S.

Trump Slams “Trump-Hater Secretary Of State of Michigan” For “Purposely” Misprinting Trump Ticket On Military Ballots

The Michigan secretary of state misprinted the Trump line on ballots intended to be mailed to troops serving overseas, the Detroit News reported.

100 Percent Fed Up reports – Jocelyn Benson, who has endorsed Joe Biden, and spoke at the recent Democratic National Convention, made the apparent error. The ballot listed Jeremy Cohen as Trump’s running mate. Cohen is running for vice president on the libertarian ticket with Jo Jorgensen.

The name of the incumbent vice president, Mike Pence, was omitted altogether. Jorgensen’s line lacked a running mate, thus creating three errors on the ballot.

Over 400 incorrect ballots were downloaded from the secretary’s website by local clerks to be sent to voters. It is not clear how many were actually mailed.

President Trump accused Benson of “purposely” misprinting the ballots in a tweet.

The ballots were “meant to be mailed or emailed to Michigan residents living abroad under the Military and Overseas Empowerment (MOVE) Act,” the paper reported.

Within a roughly two-hour time frame Tuesday afternoon, ballots downloaded from the state website to be mailed or emailed to those overseas “had an error in the presidential race impacting how candidates and running mates were listed,” according to an email sent from the state to clerks impacted by the error.

The email sent to clerks impacted by the error read:

“Replacement” ballots will be issued to those who may have been mailed incorrect ones, according to the secretary of state’s office.

“If a voter does happen to return the incorrect ballot instead of the correct ballot, it will still count,” Benson spokeswoman Tracy Wimmer said.
