Terrific opening 3 minutes (min 1-3 especially) of this Charlie Chan film titled City Of Darkness from 1939, the story set in Paris at the brink of war with Germany over Czechoslovakia territory claims. Mandatory light blackouts at night, gas mask panic, corruption, blackmail, extortion, smuggling, sedition, it's all on display. Like any detective, or film noir movie of that era, the film perfectly outlines how very little about humanity has changed since then. Same plot devices and motivations, different cast of characters. In other words, from watching this short movie you'll learn more about today's current happenings than if you watch the news! Additionally, this film is the 17th in the DVD series.
