Press Release

(Somerville, NJ) This Friday, September 18th, Representative Tom Malinowski will host a forum to discuss the conspiracy movement QAnon and the spread of misinformation on digital platforms. Rep. Malinowski will be joined by Oren Segal, Vice President of the Center on Extremism at the Anti-Defamation League.

Earlier this month, Representatives Tom Malinowski (D-NJ) and Denver Riggleman (R-VA) introduced a bipartisan Resolution condemning QAnon, a movement promoting a collection of unfounded conspiracy theories that have spread widely on the internet since 2017. These conspiracy theories are undermining public trust in America’s democratic institutions, and are beginning to actively influence US elections.

The FBI has assessed with high confidence that “fringe political conspiracy theories,” including QAnon, “very likely motivate some domestic extremists, wholly or in part, to engage in criminal or violent activity,” and that these conspiracy theories “very likely encourage the targeting of specific people, places and organizations, thereby increasing the likelihood of violence against these targets.”

The influence of these groups has been felt recently in our own community with QAnon supporters marching in Westfield two weeks ago, and a Berkley Heights resident identified last week as the principal developer for a QAnon organizing platform that has since been shut down.

“Conspiracy movements and political extremists that just a few years ago organized largely online are spilling over into the real world and putting our communities at risk,” said Malinowski. “It’s time to pull back the curtain and expose the white supremacists, anti-Semites, and extremists from the left and right leveraging misinformation to undermine our democracy, and spread fear in our communities.”

I've thought this forever. Many of the recycled spam posts include ADL by name, chiefly that Greenblatt guy. Perfect excuse to involve them/him whenever the time came to formally "denounce" us cuz we's so dangerous. Nothing organic about that shit. And besides, the shtick here never held a candle to what goes down on 4ch. Why aren't they outraged over the Hitler fawning over there?
