U.S. joint armed forces conducted a multi-platform live-fire missile exercise, Sept. 19, involving surface, air, and subsurface launched ordinance to sink the decommissioned frigate USS Curts (FFG 38) as part of exercise Valiant Shield 2020, the U.S. Navy announced.

The sinking exercise (SINKEX) combined an orchestrated sequence of live ordnance targeting the ex-USS Curts, including air-launched ordnance from fixed and rotary wing squadrons of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, embarked aboard USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), surface-launched missiles from cruisers USS Antietam (CG 54) and Shiloh (CG 67), a subsurface launched missile from Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS Chicago (SSN 721), as well as various supporting Navy and U.S. Air Force aircraft.

Air Force assets included tanker support from KC-135s and KC-10s of the 909th Air Refueling Squadron and 9th ARS, respectively.

Valiant Shield is a U.S. only, biennial field training exercise (FTX) with a focus on the integration of joint training in a blue-water environment among U.S. forces. This training enables real-world proficiency in sustaining joint forces through detecting, locating, tracking and engaging units at sea, in the air, on land, and in cyberspace in response to a range of mission areas.

While many are unsure of the effect of mail-in voting will have on the presidential election and see it as a crapshoot, one Michigan resident views mail-in voting as a crap chute. A homeowner displayed a toilet-themed display regarding the upcoming election on his front yard that has angered an election official.

A resident in the town of Mason displayed a toilet on their front yard that was accompanied by a sign that reads: "Place mail in ballots here."

Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum thought the commode-themed election display stunk and called the police.

"Earlier this week, I filed a complaint with the Mason Police Department and the Ingham County Sheriff's Office regarding a report of a potential election violation located just blocks from the Mason Historical Courthouse," Byrum, who is a Democrat, said in a statement released on Friday.

"It's solicitation of absentee ballots into a container," Byrum told the Lansing State Journal. "Our election integrity is not a game. I expect everyone to act appropriately, and this is unacceptable."

"This kind of behavior needs to be quashed immediately," she said, flush with indignation. "They are making a mockery of our elections. I'm not going to stand idly by and watch it happen."

The front lawn also has a sign that reads: "Recall Whitmer," which calls for removing Michigan's Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer from office. There was also an election sign for John James, a Republican running for U.S. Senate.

At least two federal buildings in Louisville, Ky., will be closed to the public this week amid widespread anticipation that the state will decide whether to bring criminal charges against the officers involved in the Breonna Taylor shooting.

Thedowntown federal courthouse and attached offices were being boarded up Sunday ahead what could be a controversial grand jury decision.

Protesters and the attorney representing Taylor’s family have demanded that all three of the officers involved in her fatal shooting in March be charged with at least second-degree manslaughter. But legal experts tell Fox News it’s possible some of the officers will not face homicide charges.

U.S. Government Delegation joined by Special Advisor to the President, Richard Grenell, to visit Kosovo

A U.S. government delegation led by U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) Chief Executive Officer Adam Boehler will travel to Kosovo, Serbia, Greece and Israel from September 20 through September 25 to advance economic cooperation and development.

Boehler will be joined by Special Advisor to the President on Serbia-Kosovo Ambassador Richard Grenell; Deputy Administrator for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Bonnie Glick; President and Chairman of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) Kimberly Reed; and other senior government officials from the U.S. Departments of Energy and Commerce. The delegation will hold meetings with senior government officials and private sector leaders, according to a statement of the US Embassy in Kosovo.

The delegation’s trip comes on the heels of the historic Abraham Accords between Israel, the U.A.E., and Bahrain and the economic normalization agreement between Serbia and Kosovo. “DFC, America’s development bank, facilitates private sector investment and offers a principled financing alternative to authoritarian regimes. DFC works closely with USAID, EXIM, and other government agencies to promote development and advance U.S. foreign policy through its financing tools,” according to the statement. The delegation will advance strategic investments that support diversity of supplies and reinforce energy independence in Greece and the wider region.

The delegation will also assess opportunities to expand investment in the region to enhance stability and economic cooperation in the Middle East.
