Bill and Hillary Clinton — a disgraced president who had an affair with a White House intern his daughters age and a two-time loser in presidential politics — weighed in on what to do with the vacancy left on the Supreme Court by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

“The decision that Senator McConnell made back in 2016 in the midst of that presidential election, but at a much earlier time when Justice Scalia unexpectedly passed away, is what should be the standard now,” Hillary Clinton said on NBC’s “Meet The Press” Sunday. She added that Republicans should be “held to account” for the precedent they set then.

“But as you clearly heard, that is not what they are intending and it’s another blow to our institutions. Our institutions are being basically undermined by the lust for power, power for personal gain in the case of the president or power for institutional gain in the case of Mitch McConnell,” she said.

Bill Clinton, the president who nominated Ginsburg to the Supreme Court, also ripped Republicans for simply wanting to fill a vacant seat — especially with a contentious presidential election just more than 40 days away.

“Well it’s superficially hypocritical, isn’t it,” he said. “Mitch McConnell wouldn’t give President Obama’s nominee, Merrick Garland, a hearing 10 months before the presidential election. And now that meant that we went a long time with eight judges on the court… Both for Senator McConnell and President Trump their first value is power and they’re trying to jam the court with as many ideological judges as they can.”

US judge blocks Trump’s WeChat ban, halting removal of app from stores

A California judge on Sunday blocked the US Department of Commerce from enforcing President Donald Trump’s executive order that requires the Chinese messenger WeChat to be removed from app stores in the US.

The Trump administration says that WeChat is a national security threat, as it allegedly sends massive amounts of data to the Chinese government. The Commerce Department had ordered for the messenger to be removed from Apple and Google's app stores in the US.

However, hours before the ban was set to come into effect, US Magistrate Judge Laurel Beeler of the Northern California District Court issued an injunction on Sunday blocking the removal, saying that the move raised "serious questions" about free speech.

The lawsuit was brought by a group of WeChat users, who argued that there is no alternative app for Chinese Americans to use to communicate. They also claimed that, without updates from the Android and Apple app stores, WeChat would be essentially unusable.

"The United States has never shut down a major platform for communications, not even during war times,” a lawyer for the users said. “There are serious First Amendment problems with the WeChat ban, which targets the Chinese American community."

WeChat is not the only Chinese app to come into Trump’s crosshairs. The president also moved to ban TikTok, a hugely popular video sharing app. The TikTok ban was originally due to come into effect on Sunday too, but the Commerce Department announced on Saturday that the deadline would be pushed back another week, as Oracle and Walmart continue talks to buy the platform’s US operations from Chinese firm ByteDance. Should these talks fall through, users will be locked out of TikTok on November 20.

Trump’s app crackdown has angered Beijing, which rolled out its own “unreliable foreign entity” list on Saturday. The Chinese government did not name any single US or Western company that it would place on the list, but said that any entity threatening the “national sovereignty, security or development interests of China” would be added to it.

The Democrats' fervent opposition to Trump filling the vacancy is more than a bit awkward considering the number of Democrats who in 2016 advocated for Obama to pick a nominee - including Joe Biden.

The 238-page document, written by the majority staff of the House Transportation Committee, calls into question whether the plane maker or the Federal Aviation Administration has fully incorporated essential safety lessons, despite a global grounding of the MAX fleet since March 2019.

After an 18-month investigation, the report, released Wednesday, concludes that Boeing’s travails stemmed partly from a reluctance to admit mistakes and “point to a company culture that is in serious need of a safety reset.”

The report provides more specifics, in sometimes-blistering language, backing up preliminary findings the panel’s Democrats released six months ago, which laid out a pattern of mistakes and missed opportunities to correct them.

In one section, the Democrats’ report faults Boeing for what it calls “inconceivable and inexcusable” actions to withhold crucial information from airlines about one cockpit-warning system, related to but not part of MCAS, that didn’t operate as required on 80% of MAX jets. Other portions highlight instances when Boeing officials, acting in their capacity as designated FAA representatives, part of a widely used system of delegating oversight authority to company employees, failed to alert agency managers about various safety matters.

Boeing concealed from regulators internal test data showing that if a pilot took longer than 10 seconds to recognise that the system had kicked in erroneously, the consequences would be “catastrophic”.

The report also detailed how an alert, which would have warned pilots of a potential problem with one of their anti-stall sensors, was not working on the vast majority of the Max fleet. It found that the company deliberately concealed this fact from both pilots and regulators as it continued to roll out the new aircraft around the world.

Second AstraZeneca volunteer reportedly suffers rare neurological condition, but UK company says it’s not related to vaccine

Two people have fallen ill during the trials of AstraZeneca’s coronavirus vaccine in the UK, the company’s internal papers revealed, and a source said they had both suffered from the same serious neurological disorder.

The company published details of the trials on Saturday, after facing criticism over the lack of transparency surrounding the testing of the much-anticipated vaccine against the virus, which has so far infected more than 30.8 million people and caused over 958,000 fatalities worldwide.

The first participant of the British trials – which are being conducted in conjunction with Oxford University – fell ill after receiving one dose of the experimental vaccine in July.

The female volunteer was later diagnosed with transverse myelitis, a rare inflammatory disease that affects the spinal cord, causing weakness, sensory alterations, and autonomic nervous-system dysfunction. The company’s spokeswoman later told the media the volunteer had undiagnosed multiple sclerosis, and the trials resumed.

Riots return to Portland as protesters attack businesses, burn flags and force motorists to pledge loyalty to BLM

Several hundred people smashed up storefronts, torched American flags and harassed motorists in Portland, Oregon, following a brief lull in nearly nightly riots due to wildfires tearing through the state.

Around 200 demonstrators marched through the city on Saturday night, with some individuals smashing windows and applying graffiti on buildings. A bank, a restaurant and a Starbucks coffee shop were among the businesses targeted, the Portland Police said in a statement. No arrests were made, but the acts of vandalism are under investigation.

Protesters were also filmed burning an American flag as they chanted “black trans lives matter.” In another incident, they torched a pro-police ‘thin blue line’ flag as they shouted “blue lives splatter.”

Elsewhere in the city, online footage shows demonstrators stopping a truck and then ordering one of its passengers to raise his fist and say “black lives matter.” The vehicle’s windows were reportedly later smashed by the protesters.

Portland’s chaotic streets had quietened down due to poor air quality resulting from nearby forest fires, but protests resumed earlier this week. On Friday, 11 people were arrested after demonstrators targeted an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in the city.

Oregon’s biggest city had previously seen more than 100 consecutive nights of racial injustice protests following the death of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis Police in May.

Popular Children's App Allegedly Requests Minor To Take Naked Pictures

A shocking claim, made by one parent in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, alleges a popular smartphone app designed for children asked a 5-year-old user to take naked pictures of themselves and siblings while in the bathroom and threatened to strangle the child if they didn't comply, reported WBAL Baltimore.

Anne Arundel County police learned about the incident on Wednesday (Sept. 16), said the child had several apps "Talking Angela," "Talking Angela 2", Talking Tom 2", and "Talking Ben 2" on their smartphone device. The complaint, filed by one of the parents, though the report did not specify which one (mother or father), called police after the incident. Police are now warning parents in the county, just outside Washington, D.C., to monitor their children's online activity of apps and social media.

"The parent reported that the app requested the child remove clothing and take photos while in the bathroom," Anne Arundel County police Sgt. Kam Cooke said. "We are not really sure as to, did the app actually say that? Or was that some sort of other entity within that app that was able to request that?"

WBAL downloaded the popular apps but did not find "any verbal commands, only written messages or symbols pointing out what to do next."

The local television station interviewed one parent in the county, Victoria Rodriguez, who said she would not let her young kids use smartphone apps.

"I feel it's weird, like someone is watching my child through the game or through the camera. It gives me the heebie-jeebies," Rodriguez said.

A Patch report said the tech company behind the app, Outfit7, has denied the claims:

"The claims have no factual basis and are completely untrue," company spokesperson Daša Rankel told Patch in an email.

However, one of the apps, Talking Tom, was in hot water in 2015 in the U.K., after the Advertising Standards Authority received complaints from two parents that their 7-year-old and 3-year-old children saw porno ads on the app. One ad read," "Wanna f**k?"

Besides police warning about apps possibly requesting children to take pictures of themselves and or others, there's been a massive problem of hackers disrupting virtual classes for children with porn, guns, and threats, all across the country.

Iran’s currency crashes to new record low amid flaring tensions with US

The Iranian rial hit a fresh low against the US dollar on Sunday, shortly after Washington unilaterally restored sweeping sanctions on Tehran, despite opposition from the international community and its own allies.

The dollar was selling for as much as 273,000 rials on the unofficial market, according to Iranian foreign exchange site Bonbast.com. Iran’s currency dropped by two percent against the US dollar in 24 hours – the second time in a week it has reached new lows. The rial has lost nearly half its value this year, and has depreciated most significantly since June.

The Iranian economy lost the bulk of its revenues when the US turned up the heat on its “maximum pressure” campaign against the Islamic Republic, after it withdrew from the landmark nuclear deal in 2018. The Trump administration has been trying to choke off Iranian oil sector, ending waivers for buyers of Iranian crude and threatening to sanction anyone who makes such purchases.

In a move that further escalated tensions, Washington announced late on Saturday the unilateral return of “virtually all” UN sanctions against Iran, which were lifted in accordance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JPCOA). The agreement, signed by Iran, the US, Russia, China, the UK, Germany, and France in 2015, was aimed at halting Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. Since the US returned to its sanctions policies, the Islamic Republic has begun gradually scaling down its commitments under the JCPOA, although it hasn’t ditched them completely.

The remaining European parties, which have been working hard to keep the agreement from falling apart altogether, said the US’ “snapback mechanism” doesn’t have any legal effect, as the US is no longer part of the agreement. European countries have been at odds with Washington over Iran since the US’ withdrawal, and have created a special trade mechanism, the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges, known as INSTEX, to dodge some of the US restrictions.

Police engage in SHOVING MATCH with protesters at major rally against coronavirus measures in London

Tensions ran high at a large rally against coronavirus measures in London, as protesters pressured the police to choose if they were with the people or with the authorities responsible for the restrictions.

Several thousand demonstrators flocked to Trafalgar Square on Saturday in violation of the ban on gatherings of more than six people.

The protesters, who neglected social distancing and mostly refrained from wearing face masks, chanted slogans and carried signs, decrying the government’s measures to stem the spread of the virus and the proposed mandatory vaccination.

“Covid is a hoax,” “Plandemic,” “This is now tyranny,” some of the signs read. They also blasted the UK press for its coverage of the pandemic, proposing “media distancing” instead of social distancing.

At one point, the crowd started advancing on the police, who were trying to maintain order at the event. They chanted: “Choose your side,” demanding the officers decide if they are with the people who are suffering under the Covid measures, or the authorities who are imposing the restrictions.

Footage from RT’s Ruptly video agency shows the officers and demonstrators shoving and pushing each other. When the police tried to make arrests, the protesters locked hands to prevent anyone from being extracted from the crowd.

The UK recorded a sharp rise in Covid-19 cases in September, which almost doubled to 6,000 per day. On Friday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned that a second wave of the pandemic is coming to Britain, and did not rule out new restrictions.

The UK has so far seen over 386,000 coronavirus cases, with more than 41,700 fatalities, but the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) warned that the number of new Covid-19 infections could be doubling in the country “as quick as every seven days.”

A homeowner displayed a toilet-themed display regarding the upcoming election on his front yard that has angered an election official.

Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum thought the commode-themed election display stunk and called the police.

"Earlier this week, I filed a complaint with the Mason Police Department and the Ingham County Sheriff's Office regarding a report of a potential election violation located just blocks from the Mason Historical Courthouse," Byrum, who is a Democrat, said in a statement released on Friday.

"Elections in this country are to be taken seriously and there are many people who are voting by mail for the first time this Election," Byrum wrote. "We need to put out accurate, complete information about voting by mail, which is the safest way to vote during the pandemic."

"It's solicitation of absentee ballots into a container," Byrum told the Lansing State Journal. "Our election integrity is not a game. I expect everyone to act appropriately, and this is unacceptable."

"This kind of behavior needs to be quashed immediately," she said, flush with indignation. "They are making a mockery of our elections. I'm not going to stand idly by and watch it happen."

Byrum warned, "It is a felony to take illegal possession of an absentee ballot (voted or unvoted)." She pointed out that "felonies of this kind are punishable by a fine of $1,000.00 or 5 years in prison."

The front lawn also has a sign that reads: "Recall Whitmer," which calls for removing Michigan's Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer from office. There was also an election sign for John James, a Republican running for U.S. Senate.

Local police told the Associated Press that the complaint about the latrine display is being investigated.

Many social media commenters on the story played devil's advocate to Byrum's argument. They questioned if anything beneficial can be derived by people who cast their ballots into a toilet on the front yard of some random person's house.

UK to crack down on Covid-19 rule breakers, impose fines up to £10,000 for defying self-isolation orders

The British government is making self-isolation a legal requirement in England for those who have tested positive for Covid-19 or who have been traced to an outbreak, and violators will be fined as much as £10,000 ($12,920).

The new mandate will come into effect on September 28 in England, and government officials are in talks to expand it to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, British media outlets reported. Fines will start at £1,000 ($1,292) and rise to £10,000 ($12,920) for repeat violators. Self-isolation orders will apply to people who test positive for Covid-19 and to those identified as being at risk through the National Health Service's (NHS) test-and-trace system.

Police will reportedly check on compliance in areas with high rates of infections. NHS workers will follow up with those under self-isolation orders and, when violations are suspected, may refer cases to the police.

"People who choose to ignore the rules will face significant fines," Prime Minister Boris Johnson said.

Starting on October 12, the government will offer payments of £500 ($646) to low-income residents who must self-isolate and can't work from home. "I don't want to see a situation where people don't feel they are financially able to self-isolate," Johnson said.

The UK government imposed new Covid-19 restrictions earlier this week amid a "second wave" of infections, and Johnson said on Friday that he will consider adding tougher social-distancing rules.

Schumer: ‘Nothing is off the Table’ if McConnell Moves to Fill SCOTUS Seat

President Donald Trump on Saturday promised to put forth a female nominee in the coming week to fill the Supreme Court vacancy created by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, pushing the Republican-controlled Senate to consider the pick without delay.

Taking the stage at a North Carolina rally to chants of “Fill that seat,” the president said he would nominate his selection despite Democrats’ objections. And, after conducting what he joked was a “very scientific poll” of the Fayetteville crowd as to whether supporters wanted a man or a woman, he declared the choice would be “a very talented, very brilliant woman.”

He added that he did not yet know whom he would choose.

“We win an election and those are the consequences,” said the president, who then seemed to signal that he’d be willing to accept a vote on his nominee during the lame duck period after the election. “We have a lot of time. We have plenty of time. We’re talking about January 20th.”

But one Republican senator already broke ranks. Maine’s Susan Collins, who is in a tough reelection battle, said Saturday that she believed replacing Ginsburg should be the decision of the president who is elected Nov. 3. Three more defections from the GOP ranks would be needed to stop Trump’s nominee from joining the court.

At stake is a seat held by a justice who was a champion of women’s rights and spent her final years on the bench as the unquestioned leader of the court’s liberal wing. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. vowed to call a vote for Trump’s nominee, but Democrats countered that Republicans should follow the precedent that GOP legislators set in 2016 by refusing to consider a Supreme Court choice in the run-up to an election.

The impending clash over the vacant seat — when to fill it and with whom — scrambles the stretch run of a presidential race for a nation already reeling from the pandemic that has killed nearly 200,000 people, left millions unemployed and heightened partisan tensions and anger.

McConnell pledged to Trump in a phone call Friday night to bring the choice to a vote though he has not said if it would be before the election. Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said any selection should come after Nov. 3. “Voters should pick the president and the president should pick the justice to consider,” he said.

The president this month added 20 more names to his roster of potential court nominees, and aides in recent days have focused on a short list heavy on female candidates, according to four White House aides and officials close to the process. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss private conversations.

Those under close consideration for the high court include three women who are federal appeals court judges: Amy Coney Barrett, beloved among conservatives and an early favorite; Barbara Lagoa, who is Hispanic and comes from the battleground state of Florida; and Allison Jones Rushing, who clerked for Justice Clarence Thomas and for Neil Gorsuch, when the current Trump-appointed justice was an appeals court judge.

Police Arrested Nearly 90 Protesters at Abolish ICE Protest in NYC

Police arrested nearly 90 protesters at an Abolish ICE demonstration Saturday in New York City’s Times Square near the New York Police Department’s headquarters, police said.

The New York Post reported that the police and protesters, who were demonstrating against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) based on recent reports that the agency performed unneeded hysterectomies on illegal alien women, clashed in Manhattan’s Times Square.

One Times Square protester, Isabella Levya, tweeted that officers began arresting people as protesters stepped off the sidewalk into the street.

Police arrested several protesters as they sat in the street, according to the Post.

“What the f**k is wrong with you!? They’re sitting down!” one protester could be heard yelling at the arresting officers.

An NYPD public alert system blared that the protesters were “unlawfully in the roadway and obstructing vehicular traffic.”

In total, 86 people were arrested throughout the protest, 41 of them being men and 45 of them being women.

All were charged with one count of disorderly conduct, and one protester was charged with one count of resisting arrest.

Earlier in the week, Abolish ICE protesters gathered outside 26 Federal Plaza in Lower Manhattan, where property inside and around the building was vandalized, WABC reported.

Protesters Gather Outside McConnell’s Home: ‘Ruth Sent Us’

Protesters gathered outside Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s home Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky, following his announcement that the Senate would vote on a Supreme Court nominee.

“The Senate majority leader is a key figure in determining whether a nominee appointed by President (Donald) Trump will succeed the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court before Election Day,” according to Fox News.

Protesters carried signs that had phrases such as “Ruth Sent Us,” and “No Ethics No Shame,” written on them.

Just before 1:00 p.m., police arrived and directed the group to stay out of the street, according to the Journal. However, some protesters appeared to encourage others to stand in the roadway.

“Police eventually moved to the edges of the demonstration and blocked traffic near the intersection of Yale Drive and Dundee Road, stating that vehicles driving down a hill may not spot protesters in the roadway before it was too late,” the Journal reported.

Officers arrested one protester on charges of disorderly conduct and improper parking after she allegedly used a pharmacy’s parking lot without buying anything inside the store.

McConnell announced Friday night the Senate would vote to replace the late Justice Ginsburg, according to Breitbart News.

“President Trump’s nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate,” he wrote in a statement.

Prior to his announcement, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer argued Ginsburg should not be replaced until after the November election.

“The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president,” he wrote on Twitter.

Ginsburg passed away Friday at the age of 87 due to “complications of metastatic pancreatic cancer,” according to a statement by the Supreme Court.

UK to Penalise Schools Which Don’t Teach Children LGBT Lessons

Secondary schools which fail to teach pupils LGBT lessons will be penalised by inspectors, it has been revealed.

Ofsted, the British schools regulator, said that schools will no longer be able to secure a rating better than “requires improvement” if they neglect to inform pupils about LGBT lifestyles and about “all the protected characteristics”, the Daily Mail reports.

An Ofsted spokesman commented: “The Department for Education’s guidance makes it clear that secondary schools must teach about LGBT issues.

“Therefore, from next summer, if secondary schools do not teach about all the protected characteristics, they will receive a judgment of ‘requires improvement’ for leadership and management.

“However, government guidance is that primary schools have more discretion over when LGBT issues are age appropriate, and so won’t necessarily be marked down if they exclude them,” they added.

A report published by Ofsted this week asserted that schools would still be allowed “to teach the tenets of any faith on the protected characteristics”, such as that same-sex pairs should not marry or engage in sexual relations according to a particular religion.

“However, if they do so, they must also explain the legal rights LGBT people have under UK law, and that this and LGBT people must be respected,” the document states.

The hardline, “progressive” leftist National Secular Society, which wants to see a ban on faith schools in Britain, was furious that institutions will be able to continue to impart some religious teachings on homosexual activity.

“It’s wholly incongruent for Ofsted to penalise schools that refuse to teach about LGBT people, but turn a blind eye with faith schools that teach being LGBT is morally wrong,” a spokesman railed.

“All pupils should be entitled to study in a welcoming and accepting school that doesn’t make them feel ashamed about who they are,” they added — without addressing the question of how their proposed education regime might make pupils from religious families feel.

Earlier this week, Christian Concern reported on the case of a pastoral administrator who was sacked from her job at a Church of England primary school in Gloucester over Facebook posts which raised concerns over plans to make sex and relationships education (SRE) mandatory for primary school children from the age of four.

In two posts on the social media website, Kristie Higgs highlighted the introduction of transgender ideology and the promotion of homosexuality in primary schools, warning against forces wish to make the teaching of “fundamental Christian beliefs” on the topic of men, women, and marriage “forbidden”.

Her employer, Farmor’s School, opened an investigation into Mrs Higgs after an anonymous complainant alleged that the posts were “homophobic and prejudiced to the LGBT community” and then announced they were sacking her for “illegal discrimination” and “inappropriate use of social media”.

Space Force issues $298M contract for new anti-jamming satellite design

Northrop Grumman was awarded a $298 million rapid-prototyping contract to design a new anti-jamming communications satellite payload for the U.S. Space Force, the Space and Missile Systems Center announced Sept. 16.

Under the contract, Northrop Grumman will build a payload for the Evolved Strategic SATCOM (ESS) program, a next generation constellation that will provide secure, jam-resistant, survivable communications for military leadership all over the world.

The new system will be interoperable with the Advanced Extremely High Frequency satellites currently on orbit. The Space Force wants ESS to have enhanced resilience and cybersecurity capabilities. And unlike AEHF, the new satellites will have polar components to provide communications over the Arctic. Currently, the Enhanced Polar System satellites are used to extend the AEHF network to the polar regions.

The Space and Missile Systems Center could award up to three rapid-prototyping contracts in 2020, according to the Space Force’s fiscal 2021 budget request, before selecting a final contractor to build out the constellation.

It’s not immediately clear how many ESS payloads would be in the constellation, or what satellites they’ll be hosted on.

“Northrop Grumman looks forward to building on more than 40 years of successfully delivering protected satellite communications solutions to our customers,” said Cyrus Dhalla, vice president, communications systems, Northrop Grumman. “ESS is critical to extending our nation’s secure satellite communications infrastructure, as it will provide strategic users with assured, uninterruptable connectivity without fear of discovery anywhere on the globe.”

Work is expected to be completed May 2025.

Planned Parenthood Hit with Big Lawsuit: 'Face the Truth'

A long-embattled abortion industry giant once again faces legal action this week for statements made about the guerrilla journalists responsible for unearthing its fetal tissue profiteering.

Pro-life journalist David Daleiden filed suit Thursday against the Planned Parenthood Federation of America for allegedly defaming him and his media outlet over their viral reporting on the organization.

Daleiden and The Center for Medical Progress are responsible for a series of controversial undercover videos from 2015 that showed Planned Parenthood leadership allegedly negotiating the sale of aborted baby parts.

Planned Parenthood accused Daleiden and The CMP of conducting a “false smear campaign” in the resulting public relations fallout, according to a news release announcing the lawsuit.

Daleiden, however, said public officials had confirmed the veracity of his content in sworn deposition testimony from a separate 2019 civil suit.

“Planned Parenthood admits my videos are true when under oath in federal court, but when speaking to the public, Planned Parenthood lies and calls the videos fake,” Daleiden said. “I have put my life on hold for five years to report, with video evidence, the trafficking of aborted infants that I and others witnessed at the highest levels of Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry.

“It is time for Planned Parenthood to face the truth,” he added.

The undercover videos of Planned Parenthood leadership allegedly discussing the sale of aborted human baby parts were initially released after 30 months of undercover work.

Daleiden has recently started to release deposition footage of the organization’s leadership admitting that the videos were true to bolster his argument as well:

The lawsuit, filed by the Thomas More Society in New York’s Southern District, alleges Daleiden suffered reputational damages, personal humiliation and mental anguish as a result of Planned Parenthood’s public response to his videos, according to Fox News.

“They called The Center for Medical Progress project a manufactured smear campaign,” Thomas More Society vice president and senior counsel Peter Breen told The Western Journal.

“That is both false and defamatory, harmful to David Daleiden, to The Center for Medical Progress in doing their work to be able to advocate, to be able to work in the public space, to seek change in the areas of fetal tissue trafficking and otherwise.”

“As we went through five years of litigation, Planned Parenthood entirely receded from any claim that the videos were somehow doctored or manufactured in court. And when the time came to put up evidence in court, they actually went the other way and agreed to a stipulation that the words spoken on the videos were entirely true, that they were the words of the Planned Parenthood personnel,” Breen added.

“But in the public, outside the courtroom, they were making these very false and harmful statements and, so, we are now in court to set the record straight and get a declaration from the court that what they’ve said is false, and get them to retract.”

The plaintiff, who has defended himself as a citizen journalist, wants PPFA to pay him and his organization $75,000 in damages.

Planned Parenthood conversely secured roughly $2 million in damages last year after suing Daleiden for fraud, trespassing and illegal video recording. Defamation was not included in Planned Parenthood’s causes of action.

Deutsche Bank: Suspected of facilitating funds to ISIS in Iraq

The Islamic State’s infamous rule over vast areas of Iraq during 2014 and 2016 not only led to a humanitarian crisis, but also left the country’s economy depleted. Its expansion in Iraq, marked by its control over vast areas of the country, most notably capturing the city of Mosul in June 2014, also allowed the organisation to seize over 121 bank branches according to the Central Bank, in what was described as one of the largest bank robberies the world has ever seen. Across its operations, the Islamic State stole a total of approximately $830 million.

Despite this, some banks, including Deutsche Bank and specifically its US branches, continued to allow money transfers to be sent to Iraq despite the group’s control over large parts of the country.

Leaked banking documents obtained by BuzzFeed News and shared with ICIJ, ARIJ and other media partners as part of the FinCEN Files investigation, reveal suspicious money transfers of at least $4 billion flagged by Deutsche Bank’s US branches and Bank of America, to a number of Iraqi banks between 15 June 2014 and 30 June 2015.

From 2 to 13 February 2015, The Bank of America flagged 524 bank transfers moving from US bank accounts to various Iraqi bank branches for over $16.8 million, and from 18 to 20 May of the same year, The Bank of America flagged 244 bank transfers that ranged from $46.54 to as much as $28 million at a time, for a total of approximately $41.4 million.

The bank filed the two suspicious activity reports (SARs) “as part of a special project by The Bank of America to identify wire transfers that are originating from, and being sent to, these financial institutions located in Iraq.”

The SAR filed in June indicates that 109 of the bank transfers were sent from seven Iraq-based banks to The Bank of America clients and totalled over $900,000, while 54 outbound wire transfers were sent for more than $7 million.

“81 wires totalling $33,409,836.12 were conducted via correspondent bank relationships that involved numerous financial institutions on a global level,” The Bank of America reported.

Similarly, Deutsche Bank Trust Company Americas filed their SARs to FinCEN “in conjunction with ongoing law enforcement collaboration,” the exact nature of which is unclear.

Their first report of the 15 SARs filed in January 2015, monitored 3,844 transactions made between 15 June 2014 to 15 December 2014 worth over $2.3 billion involving 13 Iraqi banks.

No client information or details on the beneficiaries were included in any of the bank’s reports.

Deutsche Bank’s Interests in Iraq

Deutsche Bank’s relationships in Iraq are diverse, as the bank has strong ties with and interests in both the Iraqi government and within Kurdistan.

The bank’s relationship with the Iraqi government:

In mid-2015, the Iraqi government, headed by Haider al-Abadi, appointed three banks, Deutsche Bank, Citibank, and JPMorgan Chase, to issue government bonds worth $6 billion, with the aim of trying to finance the budget deficit of $25 billion for 2015. The negotiations with the banks and the entire process were stalled but the Iraqi government issued bonds worth $2 billion in 2017 and appointed Deutsche Bank, Citibank and JPMorgan Chase again as the main co-directors of the new five-year bonds. Recently, in September 2019, the Iraqi Council of Ministers headed by Adel Abdul Mahdi approved a loan agreement between the Federal Ministry of Finance, Deutsche Bank and Standard Chartered to finance the construction of 13 substations and supply 35 high-voltage transformers to the Ministry of Electricity from the German company Siemens.

The bank’s dealings in Kurdistan:

In February 2015, Gulf Keystone Petroleum (GKP) in Kurdistan chose the bank and a second party as financial advisors for potential deals related to assets or company sale. Subsequently, in June 2015, the Kurdistan Regional Government selected two banks, one of them being Deutsche Bank, to oversee potential bond sales by the government. Later, in March 2016, the Qaiwan Group in the Kurdistan region turned to the bank again, in addition to Dubai’s branch of the Lebanese Bank Med, to arrange a credit purchase of $75 million for an eight-year period.

It is clear that Deutsche Bank is one of the first and preferred options for Iraq in its financial and oil transactions or consultations. But why does the Iraqi government insist on turning to a bank whose reputation has become tarnished and its credibility at stake, especially after it was suspected of financing armed groups in Iraq and of facilitating banking for sanctioned Iranian entities?

In fact, the bank’s relationship with Iraq is not new. Deutsche Bank’s involvement in Iraq dates back to 1888, when the bank was given priority rights for mining operations including oil and petroleum in the Ottoman empire.
