Prince Charles Calls For 'Military-Style Campaign' to Fight Climate Change

Climate Change can only be defeated with a "military-style campaign" and could "dwarf the impact of the coronavirus pandemic," Prince Charles says.

Britain's next king called for a new "Marshall-like plan," referencing $12 billion of funding injected into western Europe by the U.S. to rebuild after World War Two.

His pre-recorded words were the keynote address for the opening of Climate Week NYC in New York today, the only major summit on the issue scheduled this year.

The heir to the British throne said climate change "is now rapidly becoming a comprehensive catastrophe that will dwarf the impact of the pandemic.

"At this late stage I can see no other way forward but to call for a Marshall-like plan for nature, people and planet."

He added: "We must now put ourselves on a warlike footing, approaching our action from the perspective of a military-style campaign."

Prince Charles survived COVID-19 after becoming infected and displaying mild symptoms in March.

He recovered fully and revealed his battle had not only been with the disease but also with the loneliness of self-isolation.

Magnitude 3.4 earthquake felt near Temescal Valley

A magnitude 3.4 earthquake was reported Monday at 6:20 a.m. less than a mile from Temescal Valley, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake occurred less than a mile from Lake Elsinore, one mile from Lakeland Village, seven miles from Corona and seven miles from Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.

In the past 10 days, there have been three earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.

An average of 234 earthquakes with magnitudes between 3.0 and 4.0 occur per year in California and Nevada, according to a recent three-year data sample.

Microsoft to acquire publisher of ‘Doom,’ ‘Elder Scrolls,’ ‘Fallout’ for $7.5 billion

In a stunning announcement Monday morning, Microsoft is paying $7.5 billion to buy ZeniMax Media, the parent company of game publishing giant Bethesda Softworks. Bethesda is the publisher of popular franchises such as Doom, Fallout and The Elder Scrolls.

The move comes just before Microsoft will introduce its next-generation console, the Series X, to the market Nov. 10. The acquisition gives Microsoft control of the aforementioned popular franchises, and bolster its offerings for its highly-touted game streaming service, Xbox Game Pass. In a news release, Microsoft signaled its intent to bring “Bethesda’s future games into Xbox Game Pass the same day they launch on Xbox or PC.”

Microsoft has positioned its strategy around serving consumers by attempting to reach them wherever they are, introducing Project xCloud, which allows users to stream their game library on mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. It has also sought to give Microsoft users access to hundreds of games for a monthly subscription fee, via Game Pass, allowing users to sample games rather than shelling out $60. The acquisition of ZeniMax will bolster those offerings.

“Quality differentiated content is the engine behind the growth and value of Xbox Game Pass — from ‘Minecraft’ to ‘Flight Simulator,'" Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in the release. "As a proven game developer and publisher, Bethesda has seen success across every category of games, and together, we will further our ambition to empower the more than three billion gamers worldwide.”

The planned acquisition adds 2,300 employees to the Microsoft roster, stationed at a number of studios under the ZeniMax umbrella: Bethesda Softworks, Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog and Roundhouse Studios.

According to police, this is not the first time she has gone missing. She was found earlier this year in York, Pa., after disappearing for six months. She reported having memory lapses, did not know her name and had been staying near the Northern Central Railroad (NCR) Trail near the Maryland-Pennsylvania line, police said. Brady is 5 feet, 4 inches tall and 125 pounds. When she disappeared, she was wearing dark clothes and boots. Raytheon Wins Navy Deal to Support MK-31 Missile Program

Raytheon Technologies Corporation’s RTX Missiles and Defense business unit recently secured a $60.5-million modification contract to provide engineering services for the Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) MK-31 Guided Missile Weapon System Improvement program. The contract was awarded by the Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, DC.

Per the agreement, the company will provide support for the maintenance of current weapon system capability. Additionally, the unit will resolve issues through design, systems, software maintenance, reliability, quality assurance and logistics engineering services. Majority of the work related to the deal will be executed in Tucson, AZ, which is scheduled to get completed by December 2021.

How Will the Deal Favor Raytheon?

Increasing geopolitical tensions across the globe prompted nations to strengthen their defense systems manifold. With rapid technological upgrades, missile defense has steadily emerged to play a pivotal role in a nation’s defense strategy. With the United States being the world’s largest weapons supplier, it is a golden era for premier defense contractors like Raytheon.

Notably, its MK-31 weapon system is the most modern self-defense weapon system, deployed from ships, to destroy anti-ship missiles and has the capability to protect ships of all sizes. Why China Is Suddenly Buying Record Amounts Of American Crude Oil

Relations between the United States and China may be near all-time lows, but the trading of energy commodities between the two powers remains active—at least for crude oil. Indeed, China’s imports of U.S. crude are expected reach a new high of about 900,000 barrels a day this month. According to Chinese customs data, China’s imports of US crude oil spiked to a record high of 867,000 barrels a day in July, up from 143,000 barrels a day in June. U.S. crude started arriving in May after Chinese buyers received waivers from Beijing of the 5 percent tariff, and oil prices plunged—recall that U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) dropped into negative territory in late April.

China needs continued access to the United States as an export market for its manufacturing. But to ensure this economic lifeline remains open, Beijing must make good on its pledge under the phase one trade deal signed with President Trump in January.

America's oil and gas sector may have suffered under many of President Donald Trump’s harsh trade policies, particularly the trade war that resulted in tariffs on Chinese imports of crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG). But China’s recent increase in its appetite for U.S. energy in the run-up to the November elections is a sign that the Trump administration’s pressure on Beijing is paying dividends.

The easiest way for China to reduce its trade imbalance with the United States and get near its phase one energy target is to buy large volumes of U.S. crude, which increase the dollar value of Chinese imports in ways that other U.S. energy products cannot.
