NYC, Portland, and Seattle designated ‘anarchist jurisdictions’ by Justice Department & set to lose federal funding

New York City, Portland, and Seattle have been named “anarchist jurisdictions” by the US Department of Justice and now stand to lose federal funding for supposedly failing to quell recent riots and for defunding the police.

“When state and local leaders impede their own law-enforcement officers and agencies from doing their jobs, it endangers innocent citizens who deserve to be protected, including those who are trying to peacefully assemble and protest,” US Attorney General William Barr said in a statement on Monday.

Barr added that the government “cannot allow federal tax dollars to be wasted when the safety of the citizenry hangs in the balance.” While the scale of such sanctions is as yet unclear, the White House budget director, Russ Vought, will be preparing the guidelines for federal agencies to withdraw funding within the next two weeks. Other cities may be added to the list in the future, the Justice Department said.

The “anarchist jurisdictions” designations stem from President Donald Trump’s earlier memo. On September 2, Trump ordered the department to look into available paths to financially punish cities that have been defunding their law enforcement agencies during crime waves, or ignoring instances of violence during the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests.

The three cities appeared on the list for a variety of reasons. In July. New York’s city council approved a budget that cut $1 billion from its police department’s $6 billion annual budget, despite a citywide rise in violent crimes.

Portland had more than a hundred consecutive nights of protests, which, on occasions, included violence, property damage, and clashes with the police. At the end of August, a group of people even broke the windows of the condominium in which the city’s mayor resides and threw burning debris inside.

Seattle, meanwhile, allowed the formation of a long-running police-free “autonomous zone” that was ultimately dismantled after incidents of violence, including shootings, in its vicinity.

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio responded by denouncing the DOJ pronouncement as "insulting" to New Yorkers, and saying the city is full of "peace and tranquility." The chief lawyer for NYC, Jim Johnson, stated that the city is considering legal action to challenge the designation.

Pelosi Risks Shutdown After Slashing GOP Farm Aid, Child-Nutrition From Bill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and House Democrats are risking a federal shutdown - releasing a stopgap government funding bill on Monday which failed to gain the support of the White House or Senate GOP, according to Bloomberg.

The bill extends current levels of funding beyond the Sept. 30 fiscal year deadline until December 11, however it excludes $30 billion in farm aid that the White House demanded, yet which Democrats insist on negotiating as part of separate stimulus negotiations, according to aide sin both parties.

Senate Republicans from farm states pushed for the $30 billion to replenish funding for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Commodity Credit Corp., a government-owned entity that aims to stabilize farm income. President Donald Trump announced $13 billion in new aid to farmers, drawing from the CCC, at a rally in Wisconsin on Thursday, and the corporation had already projected an increase in demand for agriculture-risk coverage, price-loss coverage, and marketing-assistance loans. -Bloomberg

Pelosi's stopgap bill, known as a continuing resolution, had been under intense negotiation between Democratic and GOP congressional leaders along with the White House. Democrats had initially pushed an idea to provide the farm aid in exchange for $2 billion in child-nutrition funding on Friday, however Pelosi called Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on to cancel the trade. Instead, the House bill set for Monday release will exclude the child-nutrition money, which is part of a program which runs out at the end of the month.

Earlier this month, Pelosi and Mnuchin agreed to separate discussions on COVID-19 relief and the funding bill, as the pandemic stimulus talks have been at an impasse since August, with both sides around $1 trillion apart from each other.

According to reporter Ford Fischer the far left mob tried to ender Graham’s front yard and knock on his door but were stopped by police.
