Trump to meet state attorneys general to discuss key U.S. tech liability shield

David Shepardson and Nandita Bose

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump plans to meet on Wednesday with a group of Republican state attorneys general about revising a key law that shields social media companies from liability for content posted by their users and allows them to remove lawful but objectionable posts.

"Online censorship goes far beyond the issue of free speech, it’s also one of protecting consumers and ensuring they are informed of their rights and resources to fight back under the law," White House spokesman Judd Deere said. "State attorneys general are on the front lines of this issue and President Trump wants to hear their perspectives."

A person briefed on the matter said Trump is expected to meet with the state attorneys general of Texas, Arizona, Utah, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, South Carolina and Missouri.

Senator Capito supports moving forward with Supreme Court nomination process

By Tyler Barker -

September 22, 2020 9:59 am

CHARLESTON, WV (WOAY) – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today released the below statement regarding President Trump’s intent to fill the United States Supreme Court vacancy following the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg:

“President Trump and the Republican Senate, both elected by the American people, should act to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left by Justice Ginsburg’s passing. The Constitution authorizes the president to name a nominee, and it gives the Senate the power to approve or disapprove of that nomination. West Virginians and the American people expect us to exercise that responsibility. I support the choice to move forward with the confirmation process and will consider President Trump’s nominee on her merits as West Virginians would expect me to do. In these trying and polarized times, it is important to exercise our constitutional authority and move forward with the process.”
