>The study is especially timely; recent polls suggest that nearly 50 percent of ordinary, non-pathological Americans believe in at least one conspiracy theory.

100% believe in more than one.

They just don't know that's what it's called.

Thinking that the neighbor lady is cheating on her husband with the also-married mailman—is believing in a conspiracy theory.

Thinking that any product ever advertised on TV as legitimate—was actually a scam—is believing in a conspiracy theory.

Thinking that some politicians accept bribes behind the scenes to vote a certain way, despite the "official story/records" saying otherwise—is believing in a conspiracy theory.

The CIA simply did a damned good job of spinning the definition of and shaming the term.

>JUST. STOP. WEARING. THEM.

^THIS

What's the worst that can happen? Seriously. The real answer is probably just "embarrassment"…you don't want to look like the outcast/weirdo. And I get that to some degree, but on this issue, my feeling is just SOO strong that they're the weirdos complying with this nonsense, and SOMEONE has to stand up to it!

I walk into multiple stores that ARE PLASTERED with signs on the front doors/windows saying ''"YOU MUST BE WEARING A MASK"'' to enter, shop, etc. I blatantly ignore them, stroll right in, and have NEVER been called out or questioned or offered anything but friendly service. Sometimes over-the-top friendly…like they might even respect somebody willing to stand up to it and say NO.

For the most part, I agree with your critique so much that I could have written it myself… and it may end up being right… but it fails to consider the possible intervention of a "once-in-a-lifetime(s)" force for good occurring/taking the reins… be it God, technology in the hands of a few good people truly wanting to make things right… or both… the rare circumstance in which it isn't the same as it's always been. There ARE exceptions to the general rules.
