I started digging into GE Ventures Healthymagination, which lead to some interesting connections on different people/companies/organizations that are collecting bio-data.
Sue Siegel is GE’s Chief Innovation Officer and CEO of Business Innovations, leading the development and acceleration of innovation across the company.
Sue has more than 30 years of experience in corporate and venture capital. Previously, as a financial VC, Sue led investments in personalized medicine, digital health, and life sciences at Silicon Valley-based Mohr Davidow Ventures.
She currently serves on the Boards of the National Venture Capital Association, Stanford Hospital Board’s IT Committee, Harvard Partners’ Innovation Advisory Board, the Cleveland Clinic’s Innovation Council, University of California’s Innovation Council, and she also serves on the Executive Committee of Santa Clara University’s Center for Science, Technology, and Society’s Advisory Board. She is a President’s Circle member of the National Academies of Science, a member of YPO-WPO, Women Corporate Directors, and a Henry Crown Fellow of the Aspen Institute.
The National Venture Capital Association has two strategic venturing representatives: Sue Siegel and "'George Hoyim from In-Q-Tel.'"
Sue Siegel's healthymagination is connected to The Kavli Foundation through their "Neurodata Beyond Boarders" initiative.
Robert W. Conn (born December 1, 1942) is President and Chief Executive Officer of The Kavli Foundation, a U.S. based foundation dedicated to the advancement of basic science research and public interest in science. A physicist and engineer, Conn is also the current Board Chair of the Science Philanthropy Alliance, an organization that aims to increase private support for basic science research, and Dean Emeritus of the Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego).
As head of The Kavli Foundation, which is based in Los Angeles, California, Conn leads its efforts to support research in astrophysics, nanoscience, neuroscience, and theoretical physics at academic institutions around the world. Conn is also Board Chair of the Science Philanthropy Alliance, which seeks to increase philanthropic giving to basic science and advises new, emerging, and current philanthropists as they pursue their interests in supporting science research.
The Science Philanthropy Alliance provides a connection between Robert Conn (The Kavli Foundation) and Mark Zuckerberg/Priscilla Chan .
In 2016, Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged the Alliance's (Science Philanthropy Alliance) role in advising the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which that year announced a $3 billion commitment to basic science research, making it the second key area of focus of their philanthropy, after education.
The aim of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is to "advance human potential and promote equality in areas such as health, education, scientific research and energy."
On September 2016, CZI announced its new science program, Chan Zuckerberg Science, with $3 billion in investment over the next decade, with Cornelia Bargmann of Rockefeller University announced as the first president of science, to begin October 1, 2016. The goal of the program is to help cure, manage, or prevent all disease by the year 2100. $600 million of the $3 billion would be spent on BioHub, a location in San Francisco's Mission Bay District near the University of California, San Francisco, to allow for easy interaction and collaboration between scientists at University of California, San Francisco; University of California, Berkeley; Stanford University; and other universities in the area, as well as engineers and others.
I threw this together quickly because the connections started to get messy. Silicon Valley wants to own your bio-data!
