Recent increase of COVID-19 cases connected to Redding care facility

REDDING, Calif. โ€” Shasta County's numbers of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have spiked in recent days.

At Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting, Shasta County Health Officer Dr. Karen Ramstrom offered a few reasons for the recent increase.

She says there have been no cases of transmission on school campuses. Some college and university students have tested positive because they live together, but there have not been cases of transmission on those campuses either.

However, Dr. Ramstrom mentioned there has been a recent outbreak at a skilled nursing facility in Redding.

โ€œWeโ€™ve had an outbreak in one skilled nursing facility and thatโ€™s added a number of cases over the last week or so, as well. So, that facility in total has had 34 residents impacted and eight staff,โ€ Dr. Ramstrom commented.

Dr. Ramstrom says that Public Health has made numerous site visits to the facility, and are working closely with administrators to get the outbreak under control.

According to the California Department of Health's website, the cases have been attributed to the Windsor Redding Care Facility on Court Street.
