OLYMPIA, Wash. – Gov Jay Inslee announced new safety protocols for commercial airline services during the COVID-19 pandemic at a press conference with airline officials Thursday.
The new requirements are designed to make sure airport employees, airline employees, and customers are kept safe from coronavirus.
During Thursday's press conference, Inslee said all businesses and vendors inside Washington's airports must follow state and county health requirements including social distancing and wearing masks.
Officials with Delta Air Lines and Alaska Airlines joined the governor during the news conference Thursday. The airlines discussed protocols the companies have put in place to keep employees and customers safe.
Both airlines require passengers to wear face coverings and are restricting customers from booking middle seats. Delta says the company has had to place around 300 people on a No-Fly List for refusing to wear a mask after the plane took off.
Delta also announced a pilot program for checking the temperatures of customers flying out of SeaTac. A spokesperson with Delta says passengers flying out of SeaTac Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. – 12 p.m. will walk past a thermal camera that takes body temperatures. Anyone with a high temperature will have their temperature taken a second time and if it is above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit their trip will be rescheduled.
