CIA clamps down on flow of Russia intelligence to White House

Critics of the shift in approach say it seems designed to appease President Donald Trump

The CIA has made it harder for intelligence about Russia to reach the White House, stoking fears among current and former officials that information is being suppressed to please a president known to erupt in anger whenever he is confronted with bad news about Moscow.

Nine current and former officials said in interviews that CIA Director Gina Haspel has become extremely cautious about which, if any, Russia-related intelligence products make their way to President Donald Trump’s desk. Haspel also has been keeping a close eye on the agency’s fabled “Russia House”, whose analysts she often disagrees with and sometimes accuses of purposefully misleading her.

Last year, three of the people said, Haspel tasked the CIA’s general counsel, Courtney Elwood, with reviewing virtually every product that comes out of Russia House, which is home to analysts and targeters who are experts in Russia and the post-Soviet space, before it “goes downtown” to the White House. One former CIA lawyer called it “unprecedented that a general counsel would be involved to this extent”.

This month Trump, who never served in the military, had to battle a report he referred to dead American soldiers as ‘losers’ and ‘suckers’

US President Donald Trump picked retired generals for some of his most senior national security posts when he took office and boasts of heavy spending on the US military that he asserts is unmatched in history.

He has made getting US allies to increase their own military spending a cornerstone of foreign policy along with a commitment to walk away from “ridiculous endless wars” in the Middle East that have killed thousands of US troops.

But the Republican president has also ridiculed his top generals, ignoring their advice on some key issues and questioning their intelligence, courage and commitment to their soldiers.

Critics say Trump has used the military as a prop and purposefully undermined Pentagon efforts to remain apolitical.

Scores injured after MASSIVE gas tanker explosion on outskirts of Lagos, Nigeria (VIDEOS)

A major explosion has occurred outside Nigeria’s largest city, Lagos, after a gas tanker caught fire. Footage from the scene shows heavily damaged buildings and vehicles, and reports say multiple people have been injured.

The incident occurred in the town of Ajuwon, to the north of Lagos, on Thursday. Multiple videos from the scene show a gas tanker truck on fire, emitting a thick plume of black smoke. The vehicle was apparently parked by a refueling station, which likely added to the blast’s power.

The truck fire drew a large crowd of onlookers, who flocked to the scene of the accident.

As the people were heading towards the burning vehicle, it emitted a large column of fire and suddenly exploded.

Hit from All Sides, European Bank Stocks Swoon to 1988 Low

Leaks about money laundering, a resurgent Pandemic, China risks, exposure to Turkey’s financial crisis, all in a negative-interest-rate environment that is toxic for banks.

The Stoxx 600 Banks index, which covers major European banks, slumped 5.7% on Monday, to close at 81.1, just a smidgen above the multi-decade low, of 79, set in March. The last time before March that the index was below today’s level was in February 1988, during the sell-off that followed Black Monday in October 1987, when it also slumped as low as 79. The index has collapsed by 85% since its peak in May 2007, after having quadrupled over the preceding 12 years. Here are the wondrous European bank stocks going back to 2007:

Not even the promise of more industry consolidation, facilitated by shotgun mergers of big, struggling banks with smaller struggling banks, has stemmed the slide of Europe’s banking shares. Three weeks ago, Spain’s third largest lender, CaixaBank, announced plans to buy majority state-owned Bankia, with money largely provided by the State, to form what will be Spain’s largest domestic bank. Spain’s MSCI rose only slightly in response and is now lower than it was.

Today, it wasn’t just banking stocks that had a rough day. European stocks overall were down by 3.9%, as concerns grow over a second wave of the coronavirus. But banks were particularly hard hit…

Corporate Media Stays Silent on Wall Street Banks’ Crimes

Corporate-owned mainstream media, that is dependent on financing from these same banks, prefers the Fed’s alternative version of reality.

There are two opposing narratives living side by side in the United States: independent journalists and researchers have documented how the behemoth banks on Wall Street are as crooked as ever while the Federal Reserve Chairman, Jerome Powell, repeatedly tells Congress and the press that these banks are a “source of strength” in this economic crisis. (Never mind that the Fed is flooding these banks with trillions of dollars in cumulative loans at less than 1 percent interest.)

Corporate-owned mainstream media, that is dependent on financing from these same banks, prefers the Fed’s alternative version of reality.

Wall Street On Parade has repeatedly written about critical reports showing serial corruption at these banks that have been censored by those Pulitzer prize winning media outlets. Yesterday provided another example: the New York Times refused to cover the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists’ stunning report on how five of the biggest banks on Wall Street have continued to launder dirty money for fugitives and suspected criminals. The Wall Street Journal, whose name suggests that perhaps its focus should be Wall Street, failed to put the story on its front page, opting instead to bury it under an innocuous headline about HSBC’s stock hitting a new low

The same news blackout occurred last year when the public interest group, Better Markets, published an in-depth report on “Wall Street’s Six Biggest Bailed-Out Banks: Their RAP Sheets & Their Ongoing Crime Spree.” Three days after the report came out, major news outlets were still refusing to cover the report. 3 people arrested in Idaho for violating city mask, distancing order during outdoor worship event

Police in Moscow, Idaho, arrested three participants in a church-sponsored outdoor singing event Wednesday for violating the city's order on masks and social distancing.

The order, instituted in July, requires that in public, whether indoors or out, people must maintain social distancing of six feet or wear a face mask. Moscow City Council recently extended the order to January 5.

The event, called a "Psalm Sing" was organized by Christ Church and took place in the parking lot outside city hall. More than 150 people participated. In addition to the three people arrested for violating the order, two were arrested and charged with resisting and obstructing an officer. All five people were cited for violating the city order.

This is the first time the city has issued citations for violations of the order, Moscow-Pullman Daily News reports. Police Chief James Fry said the department has been lenient about the order and tried to work with gatherings to avoid arrests, "but at some point in time you have to enforce."

Trump announces he will sign Born Alive Executive Order

President Trump will sign the Born Alive Executive Order, mandating medical care for babies who survive abortion attempts, he announced in a video announcement played Wednesday at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast.

The order, he said, will "ensure that all precious babies born alive, no matter their circumstances, receive the medical care that they deserve." He called ensuring such care "our sacrosanct moral duty."

Senate Republicans proposed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Act last year, but it did not receive the necessary 60 votes to pass after all but three Democrats voted against the bill.

🔦 The Born-Alive Infants Protection Act signed into law by President George W. Bush specified that an infant born alive after a failed abortion is a person under the law, but does not require medical care for such babies, according to the Family Research Council.
