Board Revokes License Of Psychologist After Alleged Sexual Relationship With Teen Patient

NEWARK, NJ – The Board of Psychological Examiners has revoked the license of a psychologist after finding that he engaged in a sexual relationship with a patient beginning when she was 17 years old.

According to the Administrative Complaint filed by the Attorney General, Daniel Davenport, who maintained a private practice in Sewell, violated multiple rules and regulations governing the practice of psychology, and misled the Board during an investigative inquiry about both the nature and the length of his relationship with the patient.

In a final decision, the Board revoked the license of 53-year-old Davenport. The Board unanimously voted to uphold an Administrative Law Judge’s Initial Decision on the Complaint, which concluded that the sexual relationship between Davenport and his patient began when the patient was a minor and continued for more than a year.

The Board filed against Davenport, which contained the following allegations:

The patient began therapy with Davenport in May 2013, when she was a month shy of her 17th birthday.

The patient had a history of anorexia and bulimia since age 12.

In September 2013, the patient, upset about a fight with a friend, called Davenport, who left a Philadelphia Eagles game he was attending and met the girl in the parking lot of a Philadelphia-area sports bar, where they talked for about an hour inside his car.

The patient’s eating disorders worsened despite her weekly sessions with Davenport. Thus, he referred her to an intensive outpatient treatment program (IOP) and advised her he was terminating the therapist-patient relationship because “he wanted to be there for her more than he could as a therapist.”

Davenport and the now former patient texted everyday while she was at the IOP and Davenport would see her between breaks with clients.

Davenport would talk with the girl about how things were going for her and initiated physical closeness by sitting next to her, having her snuggle up next to him and lie on top of him.

Davenport kissed the girl for the first time, on the mouth, in March 2014, when shel was 17.

Davenport then invited the girl to his office once a week, during which they would kiss and he would perform oral sex on her.

Davenport engaged in sexual intercourse with the girl in early may 2014, several weeks before her 18th birthday.

Davenport frequenly provided the girl with alcohol and they smoked marijuana together.

Davenport continued to meet with the girl about once a week through the summer and fall of 2014, in motel rooms or his office, and he would bring alcohol.

As a result of the relationship, the girl began drinking heavily and contemplating suicide.

In October 2014, the girl attended and out-of-state inpatient mental helath and substance abuse program. She flew home in early 2015. Davenport picked her up from airport, obtained alcohol, and took her to a motel room, where they engaged in intercourse. They then resumed seeing eachother once a week, during which they drank alcohol and have sex.

In March 2015, the girl attended another inpatient rehabilitation program to address her escalating alcohol problem. During her stay there, she attempted to end her relationship with Davenport via telephone.

During a third inpatient rehab, the girl wrote Davenport a letter. He responded by telling her that he could no longer be in a relationship with her anymore because of her drinking problem.

Stop the madness': Virginia governor demands Trump rally be cancelled due pandemic rules — but the campaign says the show must go on

The Democrat governor called the planned rally a "super-spreading clown show"

The governor of Virginia and other state officials are warning an airport that hosting a Trump 2020 rally could result in a "super-spreader" event, but the campaign intends to continue with the rally.

The event is planned for Friday evening at the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, excoriated the airport officials for defying his coronavirus order and continuing with their plans to host the rally.

"Public health experts have made it clear: tomorrow's @realdonaldtrump clown show should not move forward," he tweeted on Thursday.

"The rally will put Virginians health in jeopardy. Stop the madness and cancel this event," he demanded.

He posted letters from the governor's office by Virginia's secretary of transportation and the secretary of health and human resources warning the airport that the rally would violate pandemic lockdown limitations on public gatherings.

McAuliffe had previously criticized the rally on Tuesday and accused the president of putting Virginians in danger.

"These super-spreading clown show rallies present a real public health risk. On the day we mourn the loss of 200K Americans to COVID-19, it's alarming @realdonaldtrump will be putting Virginians at risk by coming here," he tweeted.

Up to 4,000 people are expected to attend the rally on Friday.

The show must go on

Republican party and Trump campaign officials said the show must go on.

"We're going to follow the CDC guidelines, and people are going to behave in a way that's appropriate," said Newport News Republican Party Local Chair Tom Amen to WTKR-TV.

Trump campaign officials made a similar statement.

"Every attendee will get a temperature check prior to admission, be provided a mask they're encouraged to wear, and have access to plenty of hand sanitizer," they said.

Not everyone is upset about the rally, of course.

"When you hear it's just a mile away from your house, that's wonderful," said Newport News resident Robin Necker to WTKR. "

"I just want to see the man in person, and I want to hear what he says," said her husband Bill Necker. "He's good for our country, I believe, and I'm really looking forward to voting for him."

Accused cop slasher Fredrick Elrezz found dead in jail after attempted murder

The man charged with the attempted murder of a police officer this month has been found dead in his prison cell.

A man who sparked a terror probe after he allegedly slashed at and bit police officers in Sydney’s CBD has been found dead in his prison cell.

Fredrick Fadi Elrezz was charged with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed two officers, slashing one across the head and shoulder, and bit another on the arm on York St earlier this month.

The Lakemba man, 32, was being held at Parklea Correctional Centre.

Elrezz had alleged in court he has been beaten by prison guards because of his alleged crimes.

His first scheduled court on September 3 was abandoned over fears he might injure corrections staff who refused to handle him.

His lawyer Oussama Elfawal told the court the next day that his client was having a “difficult time” in custody and claimed he had been the victim of violence himself.

“He says he has been subject to violence from the guards because of the allegations against him,” he said.

Outside court Mr Elfawal said Elrezz wanted to be brought up on screen before Magistrate Robert Williams to show him a “graze” on his face and claimed to have been “beaten”.

Police had been called to Sydney’s CBD after reports Elrezz had harassed a food delivery driver on George St.

It was alleged he approached the officers before pulling a knife from his pocket and attacking three officers.

Police alleged Elrezz told officers “I wanted to kill the cop” and then said “Allahu Akbar” while being interviewed over the alleged attack.

The injured officers were taken to St Vincent’s Hospital, with a 40-year-old male senior constable treated for a cut to the left side of his head and a second cut to his left upper arm/shoulder.

A 39-year-old male acting sergeant received treatment for a cut on his finger and a knee injury, while a 20-year-old male probationary constable was treated for a bite to his tricep.

Following the incident anti-terrorism police raided the York St hostel Mr Elrezz had been staying at and seized several items during searches in Lakemba.

Elrezz did not apply for bail and it was formally refused. His next court date had been set for October 29.

ALLEGED ATTACK IN CUSTODY

Elrezz had also been charged with the alleged assault of two prison officers while in custody.

On September 10 he faced Blacktown Local Court where police alleged that while being held in custody at Surry Hills the week before, Elrezz became physically aggressive towards two Corrective Services NSW officers, biting one on the hand and spitting on the other.

He faced fresh charges of assaulting a law enforcement officer and inflicting actual bodily harm and two counts of assaulting a law officer.

Loving-Kindness Meditation Will Make You Happier

Researchers from HSE University compared the effect of two meditation practices – loving-kindness meditation (LKM) and compassion meditation (CM). Loving-kindness meditation turned out to be more effective when it comes to increasing happiness, but, in contrast with previous studies, compassion meditation also did not result in a growth of negative emotions. The paper was published in Mindfulness journal.

Meditation has long become a routine for many people, particularly in the US and Western Europe. It is used to restore energy, decrease stress, and find inspiration. Different types of meditation have different effects. Researchers are increasingly interested in these hardly measurable but nevertheless important differences in the impact that meditation practices have on people’s emotional state.

In Buddhism, there is a group of practices called the ‘four immeasurable meditations’. It includes loving-kindness meditation, compassion meditation, appreciative joy meditation, and equanimity meditation. While they differ from each other and can be used separately, they are all aimed at forming positive messages to others and oneself.

Judging by their names, loving-kindness meditation and compassion meditation may seem similar, but they also have rooted theoretical differences. While LKM is about the meditator’s motivation to see others be happy, CM aims to alleviate the feeling of suffering.

The researchers sought to answer the question as to whether the outcomes of the two practices differ and what emotions they cause. They recommended that volunteers practice one of the meditations: the first group practiced LKM, and the second practiced CM. Each of the participants received a 15-min audio with the meditation practice instructions. The third, control, group, solved a crossword puzzle. Before and after the experiment, the participants completed a questionnaire, where they evaluated the emotions they were experiencing. A total of 201 American students participated in the experiment; none of them had practiced meditation before.

The study showed that the participants who practiced one of the meditations noticed a significant increase in happiness, as well as love and care for other people. LKM was more effective in increasing positive emotions and happiness.

Pompeo 'Outs' Chinese Consulate in NYC as Another 'Hotbed for Espionage'

In July, the US closed a Chinese consulate in Houston, Texas, declaring the location an espionage hot spot and a centre for attempting to steal medical data related to the development of a coronavirus vaccine.

US State Secretary Mike Pompeo told The New York Post in a Wednesday interview that a Chinese consulate in New York City is a hub for espionage on US soil, following the arrest of an NYPD officer who was charged with spying for Beijing.

“They’re engaged in activities where they’re crossing the line from normal diplomacy to the kinds of things that would be more akin to what spies are doing,” Pompeo said, referring to the NYC-based Chinese consulate.

The decision to close the consulate came after an NYPD police officer, Baimadajie Angwang, was accused earlier this week of serving as an agent for the Chinese government and helping it find information about New York City's Tibetans - an accusation denied by Beijing as "completely fabricated".

Despite Beijing dismissing the accusations, Pompeo insisted that the NYC consulate is connected to espionage, and warned that more arrests of diplomats and agents are to come.

This is not the first time Chinese consulates in the country have been targeted by the Trump administration, as earlier in July, Houston saw a shutdown of its Chinese consulate on the same allegations, after the FBI accused employees of participating in a hub for stealing medical data on a COVID-19 vaccine and trying to infiltrate oil and gas industries.

“We closed it because they’re engaged in espionage and that is a legal term. It’s not just a spy novel term. It is a very data-driven, analytic, fact-based analysis that says, ‘No, this is espionage, it’s unlawful, and therefore, we’re going to send you back'", Pompeo claimed Wednesday.

As Chinese diplomats have been accused of espionage, with Chinese consulates in San Francisco and New York City labeled as spy hubs, new reports emerged alleging that Beijing's devious "spy network" has taken over the country. According to The Post, citing unnamed DoJ officials, the alleged espionage scheme has found its way into over 25 cities.

“That network is supported through the consulates here. Consulates have been giving individuals in that network guidance on how to evade and obstruct our investigation", The Post quoted the anonymous official, who also noted that the Houston consulate is "merely the tip of the iceberg".

The administrations of US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have not been enjoying warm relations recently, as the White House points a finger at Beijing when it comes to many internal and foreign problems: the coronavirus pandemic, trade, national security and technological development. According to the White House, China is to be blamed for COVID-19 outbreak, threatening the US' national security and attempting to meddle with the US presidential election.

As Trump attacks Chinese diplomats, apps including TikTok, and tech companies such as Huawei, Beijing has denounced White House foreign policy toward China, insisting that the White House is attempting to scapegoat Xi and his government for internal political problems and global challenges, such as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Scores injured after MASSIVE gas tanker explosion on outskirts of Lagos, Nigeria

A major explosion has occurred outside Nigeria’s largest city, Lagos, after a gas tanker caught fire. Footage from the scene shows heavily damaged buildings and vehicles, and reports say multiple people have been injured.

The incident occurred in the town of Ajuwon, to the north of Lagos, on Thursday. Multiple videos from the scene show a gas tanker truck on fire, emitting a thick plume of black smoke. The vehicle was apparently parked by a refueling station, which likely added to the blast’s power.

Amazon Ring unveils tiny IN-HOME DRONE to spy on your property while you’re out

Amazon’s home security subsidiary Ring has released a tiny drone to watch over users’ possessions while they’re gone – capitalizing on paranoia and laziness while further cementing the presence of Big Brother in the home.

The Ring Always Home Cam is a pint-sized drone that syncs up with the user’s Ring home security system to fly around checking on things whenever the user is away. Homeowners can watch it do its thing on their smartphones, but can’t manually control it – which must be frustrating in the event the flying spy does actually catch someone breaking in.

The drone is apparently outfitted with “collision-avoidance technology,” meaning it won’t crash into walls or knock over priceless vases, and hums loudly in order to announce its presence to anyone nearby. When it’s dormant, its camera is supposed to be hidden by the charging station.

Ring doesn’t just want to get a good view of the entire inside of your home – it’s also debuting a self-explanatory product called Mailbox Sensor, which sits inside the door of the user’s mailbox and sends an alert when mail is delivered.

Before Ring was acquired by Amazon in 2018, its offerings were limited to WiFi-enabled “smart doorbells” that alerted users via smartphone or tablet that someone was at the door, supplying video and audio of the visitor. However, the brand has metastasized and been incorporated into Amazon’s Alexa line of smart-home products, creating an all-encompassing interactive home surveillance system.

Ring has also reached out to police departments across the US, selling that surveillance system as a valuable crime-fighting tool – and not necessarily with the knowledge or consent of users. By late 2019, over 400 US police departments had signed on to video-sharing partnerships with the Amazon subsidiary, giving them access even to users’ deleted footage. Police unsuccessful in convincing local Ring users to turn over the footage from their doorbells can simply reach out to Amazon and grab it – as long as they have a “valid and binding legal demand.”

While Amazon announced a one year moratorium on police use of its facial-recognition technology Rekognition in June – riding the wave of anti-police sentiment generated by the popular Black Lives Matter movement – there has been no similar move to restrict access to the multitude of Ring doorbell cameras feeding street footage to police departments.

The cameras come with free access to a social network called Neighbors, which allows Ring users to swap footage and talk about suspicious happenings in their area – conversations which are also accessible to the police departments who partner with Amazon.

Amazon filed a patent last year for surveillance drones designed for the great outdoors – essentially package delivery bots that have the helpful side function of surveilling subscribers’ properties, supposedly to check for broken windows, prowlers, or fires. And last month, the megacorporation was given authorization to operate its Prime Air delivery drones after years of delay, potentially shortening delivery time to just 30 minutes.
