Fort Worth 'Barbie', others charged with federal child sex trafficking in North Texas
A 33-year-old Fort Worth woman and a Mississippi woman who was taken into custody in June by Fort Worth police have been charged with child sex trafficking in North Texas, according to federal court documents.
In the case with the Mississippi woman, Fort Worth police rescued a 16-year-old girl.
Kristen Diane Hamilton, also known as Barbie, of Fort Worth was arrested last month, while Madison Mia Murphy, 21, of Mathiston, Mississippi, was taken into federal custody earlier this month on federal charges of conspiracy to engage in child sex trafficking.
Hamilton was released shortly after her arrest, while Murphy remained in federal custody on Friday.
Federal prosecutors had filed a motion to detain Murphy because she was a risk to flee, according to federal court documents.
Details on the alleged child sex trafficking were not available Friday because federal complaints against Murphy and Hamilton remained sealed.
Court documents also indicated there is at least one other defendant in the case whose identity remains sealed in the complaints.
Murphy was arrested on June 24 and she was charged with trafficking a person under 18 and compelling prostitution by force/threat, according to Tarrant County Jail records. and criminal court records.
Fort Worth police provided no other details on Murphy’s arrest or the investigation.
A 16-year-old girl was rescued, but information on where the teen was taken also was not available.
The state charge of child trafficking against Murphy was dismissed last week, according to Tarrant County criminal court records, but she faces a federal charge.
In Texas, there are more than 79,000 victims of youth and minor sex trafficking at any given time, according to statistics from the Texas Attorney General’s Office.
