Three GOP House chairmen have given the Department of Justice (DOJ) an extension to decide whether it will provide lawmakers with access to former FBI Director James Comey's memos.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein asked the three House lawmakers — Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) and Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) — to give him extra time to decide on the matter, a Gowdy aide confirmed on Tuesday.

New York AG launches inquiry into bitcoin exchanges

New York's top cop is launching an inquiry into cryptocurrency exchanges amid rising concern about the nascent digital markets.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman (D) on Tuesday announced the "Virtual Markets Integrity Initiative," an inquiry seeking to examine the "policies and practices of platforms" that trade in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

The initiative aims to protect cryptocurrency investors and consumers by boosting the transparency and accountability of the digital trading platforms.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday praised President Trump’s military response to the suspected use of chemical weapons in Syria.

McConnell said he approved of the decision by Trump, along with British and French allies, to launch over 100 missiles against Syrian President Bashar Assad's chemical weapons network.

“I personally found it an appropriate and measured response to the use of chemical weapons,” McConnell said when asked about Trump’s legal justification for authorizing military action.

Macron: I've developed 'trust and respect' with Trump

French President Emmanuel Macron said that he and President Trump have developed mutual “trust and respect,” according to Vanity Fair.

Even though their relationship did not start on a positive note, Macron noted that their continuous communication and cooperation has led to a better understanding between the two leaders.

"We have developed a good level of trust and respect," Macron told publication. "We talk on the phone on a regular basis."

The fact that the populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) is represented in the Bundestag marks a sea change in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Considering the social base of the right-populist revolt, some similarities — despite numerous differences — with "Trumpism" in the United States appear to exist. As is the case in the U.S., the right-populist bloc receives its support from all classes and strata of the population, it is interclassist in nature.

It is met with above-average sympathies especially among workers. Winning 12.6 percent of the total vote during the latest general elections, some 19 percent of workers and 15 percent of trade union members voted for the populist formation.

Delta flight makes emergency landing at Dulles

A Delta Airlines plane bound for Richmond made an emergency landing on Tuesday at a Washington, D.C. airport, WUSA9 reported.

The plane re-routed to Dulles International Airport due to a landing gear problem, according to the news station.

The plane had taken off from LaGuardia Airport in Queens, New York and was bound for Richmond International.

There were reportedly no injuries. The Hill has reached out to Delta Airlines for additional information.

News of the emergency landing comes hours after a Southwest Airlines plane traveling between LaGuardia and Dallas, Texas was forced to make an emergency landing in Philadelphia after a window shattered and pulled a passenger partially out of the aircraft.

The passenger was reportedly sent to a hospital in Philadelphia.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it is dispatching a go-team to Philadelphia to probe the incident.

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES EMERGENCY LANDING PHILADELPHIA

WACU reported a female passenger was "partially sucked out" of one of the plane's windows when the engine exploded and shrapnel from the engine pierced through a window, a father of one of the passengers said.

“One passenger, a woman, was partially…was drawn out towards the outside of the plane…was pulled back in by other passengers," Todd Bauer, the father of one of the passengers said.

The pilot, who was not immediately identified, asked an air traffic control operator via radio for emergency services to be on the scene for the injured passengers when the aircraft lands. When the pilot was asked if the plane was on fire they replied, "No, it's not on fire but part of it's missing. They said there is a hole and someone went out."

This is the window which was shattered by a piece of shrapnel from an exploding engine on a Southwest Airlines flight on Tuesday morning. Witnesses said the female passenger sitting next to it was partially sucked out of the aircraft through the whole and had to be held down

The window that was shattered was behind the engine that exploded. A piece of shrapnel flew backwards and pierced it, depressurizing the cabin and almost sucking the woman in the seat through it

Bourman said she saw emergency medical workers using a defibrillator to help a woman who was taken off the plane. Bourman said she also saw a man in a cowboy hat rush to cover the broken window and that the man had a bandage around his arm after the plane landed.

Effingham County in Illinois declares itself a sanctuary for gun owners

Leaders in Illinois' Effingham County have adopted a resolution declaring it a sanctuary for gun owners.

The County Board on Monday passed the resolution on an 8-1 vote and directed employees not to enforce new Illinois laws that would “unconstitutionally restrict the Second Amendment.”

Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler tells the Effingham Daily News that the action is largely symbolic. He says the resolution won't control decision-making at the sheriff's office.

Sheriff Dave Mahon said if the state were to pass such a law he would consult with the state's attorney and the Illinois Sheriff's Association before deciding what to do.

The resolution also opposes state legislation that Gov. Bruce Rauner vetoed that would have required more registration for gun shops.
