That sounds like a good idea. Helping the impoverished elderly who cannot (and should not) be working anymore seems like one of the few "freebies" that most conservative and liberal voters could both get behind. So many people spend their life playing this insane lottery game (trying to make the perfect career move, or the perfect investment) just so that they can avoid eating cat food through their retirement. Even people who worked so hard and gave so much might be totally destitute in their 70s. We don't, as individuals, take care of our own elderly very well, and until we improve that, maybe the government can provide more insulation from poverty for our most vulnerable, like the elderly.
