New York Times: We Have Trump’s Tax Returns

The New York Times published details Sunday of what it claimed were President Donald Trump’s tax returns to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), going back more than two decades, showing “chronic losses and years of tax avoidance,” it said.

The Times reports:

Donald J. Trump paid $750 in federal income taxes the year he won the presidency. In his first year in the White House, he paid another $750.

He had paid no income taxes at all in 10 of the previous 15 years — largely because he reported losing much more money than he made.

As the president wages a re-election campaign that polls say he is in danger of losing, his finances are under stress, beset by losses and hundreds of millions of dollars in debt coming due that he has personally guaranteed. Also hanging over him is a decade-long audit battle with the Internal Revenue Service over the legitimacy of a $72.9 million tax refund that he claimed, and received, after declaring huge losses. An adverse ruling could cost him more than $100 million.

The tax returns that Mr. Trump has long fought to keep private tell a story fundamentally different from the one he has sold to the American public. His reports to the I.R.S. portray a businessman who takes in hundreds of millions of dollars a year yet racks up chronic losses that he aggressively employs to avoid paying taxes. Now, with his financial challenges mounting, the records show that he depends more and more on making money from businesses that put him in potential and often direct conflict of interest with his job as president.

Read the full Times article here.

Democrats have long sought to obtain Trump’s tax returns, after he declined to release them during and after the 2016 election. In July, the Supreme Court ruled that House Democrats could not force Trump to hand over his tax returns. However, it also ruled that local New York prosecutors could obtain his tax returns for a local criminal investigation. Those battles are still before the courts.

The Times story, if based on authentic documents, appears to debunk several conspiracy theories held by Democrats for years. The tax returns do not “any previously unreported connections to Russia,” the Times reports. Moreover, the Times story appears to confirm Trump’s claim — long treated as an excuse by Democrats — that he is under audit by the IRS. And the Times could not find “any itemized payments to Mr. Cohen,” ostensibly the subject of the New York investigation.

“The tax audit looms,” the Times notes, reporting that Trump is facing future difficulties with losses and loans.

Past exposures of Trump’s tax returns have confirmed that he has paid millions of dollars in personal income taxes. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow was widely mocked in 2017 for revealing a 2005 tax return that showed Trump had paid $38 million in federal income taxes that year.

The Times reports more broadly on Trump’s business and personal financial details. Trump has not corroborated the information that the Times is reporting.

It is illegal for the IRS to leak the personal tax returns of any individual. The Times is guarding its sources closely.

Donald Trump Dismisses NYT Report on His Tax-Return as 'Fake News'

Earlier in the day, The New York Times reported that US President Donald Trump's tax bill was $750 in 2017, a year after he became president. According to the report, he "paid no federal income taxes in 11 of 18 years".

US President Donald Trump, when asked about his tax history during a Sunday press briefing, after it had been revealed by a NYT report to be just $750 in 2017, claimed that The Times report was "totally fake news".

"That's fake news. Actually I paid tax and you will see that as soon as my tax returns [are released.] They are under audit. The IRS [Internal Revenue Service] doesn't like me", Trump said, commenting on The NYT allegations.

Trump also said that he has 108 pages of filings of tax returns and he is waiting to have it released.

"We went through the same stories, you could have asked me the same questions four years ago, I had to litigate this and had to talk about it", US President said.

Louisville Riot U-Haul Driver Arrested According to Leaked Internal Documents

The driver of the U-Haul rented out to Holly Zoller of the Bail Project was arrested and the truck was taken into police custody, according to internal logs from the rental company that were leaked to the Gateway Pundit.

It was not clear if Zoller was still driving the truck when the arrest occurred, as her name is not listed in the note.

An internal note at 6:17 p.m. on Wednesday reads, “State Trooper called me asking for the customer’s info. Name, Person was arrested and police have truck.”

The pre-parked truck was loaded with shields painted with anti-police messages, umbrellas, gas masks, and other riot supplies.

“I just drove a truck and dropped items off,” Zoller says in the call.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday called for an agreement on cyber relations with the United States and requested that the two countries not influence each other's elections.

Putin proposed "exchanging guarantees of non-interference in each other's internal affairs, including electoral processes, including using information and communication technologies and high-tech methods," Reuters reported.

"One of the main strategic challenges of our time is the risk of a large-scale confrontation in the digital sphere," Putin said.

Russian has a long history of interfering in the political affairs of the U.S. and other countries. U.S. intelligence agencies concluded that Russia deliberately meddled in the 2016 presidential election with the goal of getting Donald Trump elected.

Moscow denies the allegations but intelligence agencies found Russia had used fake social media accounts to spread disinformation.

Even with mounting evidence against Moscow, Putin proposed that Russia and the U.S. should agree to combat and prevent major cyberspace incidents.

"We would like to once again appeal to the United States with a proposal to approve a comprehensive program of practical measures to reset our relations in the use of information and communication technologies," he said.

Putin also called for the two countries to fully restore communication lines between their respective agencies to discuss key international information.

Russia has denied allegations of attempting to interfere in the 2020 U.S. presidential election despite clear evidence.

Facebook announced on Thursday that it has removed several hundred fake accounts linked to Russian military intelligence and other Kremlin-backed actors involved in efforts to interfere in U.S. politics.

AstraZeneca's ‘Discrepancies’ in Vaccine Trial Accounts Spark Questions

Despite pressure to carry out further studies after two cases of serious illness, British-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca has already resumed trials of its COVID-19 vaccine in Britain, Brazil, India, and South Africa, although the tests are still on hold in the US amid concerns from the National Institutes of Health.

As US health authorities show reluctance to allow pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca to resume clinical trials of its coronavirus vaccine, a plethora of questions remain unanswered regarding the neurological illnesses reportedly suffered by study participants after they received injections of the experimental vaccine.

Earlier in September AstraZeneca and its partner, the University of Oxford, announced two neurological illnesses registered by the volunteers in their tests.

They subsequently offered various accounts of the sick trial subjects which, instead of allaying concerns, seemed to generate more questions.

First Sick Volunteer

The first study participant reportedly developed an illness in July. However, the details of the condition were only revealed on 9 September.

According to CNN, AstraZeneca informed the outlet in an email that the patient was found to have "an undiagnosed case of multiple sclerosis".

The study then went on a "brief trial pause in July while a safety review took place." Subsequently, an independent panel concluded that the condition was "unrelated to the vaccine”.

An earlier version of a participant information sheet, dated 12 July and filed with the ISRCTN, a primary clinical trial registry recognised by the World Health Organisation, listed a different neurological condition, says CNN.

According to the registry, the volunteer in the trial "developed symptoms of transverse myelitis (inflammation of the spinal cord)".

A study subject information sheet dated 5 August says a volunteer "developed neurological symptoms and was later diagnosed with an unrelated neurological illness".

It is impossible to determine whether this is the same volunteer as the one described in the document dated the month of July.

More recently, an information sheet dated 11 September fails to make mention of either multiple sclerosis or transverse myelitis, stating that volunteers had "unexplained neurological symptoms including changed sensation or limb weakness".

Second Ill Participant

On 8 September the drug firm announced that a volunteer's illness in the UK had resulted in a pause in the trial, originally referring to the case as an "unexplained illness".

As the investigation was launched, the vaccine trial was put on hold worldwide.

Four days later, it was announced the trial had resumed in the United Kingdom, with the university saying safety data was reviewed by an "independent safety review committee and UK regulator, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)".

Left-wing Groups Protest Across Country to Oppose Amy Coney Barrett Nomination

Left-wing groups, including MoveOn, Indivisible, NARAL Pro-Choice America, and the Sunrise Movement are launching protests at courthouses across the country to oppose the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Washington, D.C., a protest is taking place at the Supreme Court. Watch live above.

In what has been dubbed the SCOTUS Rapid Response Action Guide, protest planners offer a wide range of guidance for protesters and also provide links so visitors can donate to Planned Parenthood to “protect RBG’s Legacy.”

The guide says, in part:

In this moment of overlapping crises — a global pandemic, mass unemployment, systemic racism, and climate change — the stakes of nominating and confirming a new Supreme Court Justice could not be higher. Supreme Court justices are appointed for life and as the highest court in the US, their rulings shape all of our lives — everything from abortion to segregation, transgender rights to climate change, big money in politics to healthcare. It is unjust and unacceptable to try to rush through a nomination less than 40 days from the election.

With our futures on the line, we must rise up to demand that US Senators stand on the right side of history and let the people decide on the next Supreme Court Justice of this country. We must demand no nomination before inauguration. It’s our future and we should get to choose our justice.

The Google Document also includes suggested slogans to use on signs and social media, including “No Confirmation Before Inauguration,” “Racial Justice,” “A Green New Deal,” and “Reproductive Freedom.”

The guide instructs people about using social media and to also include in the post the hashtag #LetThePeopleDecide. Other hashtags are #OurCourts #OurFutureOurJustice #ProtectTheCourts #PeopleOverPolitics.

A link directs people to a MoveOn website seeking signatories for a petition that, on Sunday, had 1,290,955 signatures:

Donald Trump announced Amy Coney Barrett as his nomination for the Supreme Court of the United States.

He did this against Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s dying wishes and before she has even been laid to rest, while some states have already started voting, and with hardly a month to go until Election Day. This is an obvious attempt by the Republican Party and Trump to control all levers of power in this country and hold leverage over the election’s results. We cannot let this happen.

With less than 40 days until the election and voting already underway in many states, it’s important that we demand all senators pledge not to move forward with any nominee until after the next inauguration.

Trump attacks ‘Hanoi Dick’ Blumenthal for lying about Vietnam, as Dem senators refuse to meet SCOTUS pick Amy Coney Barrett

Two leading Democrats have refused to meet with Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett. They were quickly ridiculed by President Donald Trump, as the fight over Barrett’s nomination entered familiar partisan territory.

Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut) and Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) both said on Saturday that they won’t meet with Barrett before voting on her confirmation, with Blumenthal calling her an “extreme jurist” and saying he would “refuse to treat this process as legitimate.”

Blumenthal’s argument was that Coney Barrett would strike down the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, and overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 ruling that enshrined abortion as a constitutional right.

President Trump didn’t argue with Blumenthal on Coney Barrett’s record, and he could have: as an appeals judge in Illinois, Coney Barrett did not issue any rulings on the ACA, but she criticized its individual mandate in a 2017 journal article. As for abortion, while Coney Barrett has said Roe v. Wade would be “unlikely” to be overturned, she did not include the ruling on her 2013 list of “super precedents” – cases that the court should never overturn.

Instead, the president attacked Blumenthal for lying about serving in Vietnam, dubbing the Connecticut senator “Hanoi Dick.”

“Hanoi Dick, who lied for years by saying he was a war hero in Vietnam, and was never even there (Impeach him!), should not be entitled to a vote on anything of importance,” Trump tweeted on Sunday.

Trump did, however, declare his long-held ambition to replace Obamacare with an alternate system “if it is terminated in the Supreme Court.”

DoJ Argues TikTok "A Mouthpiece Of The Communist Party" As World Awaits Judge's Ruling On White House Ban

The day has finally arrived. During a 90-minute emergency hearing Sunday morning, lawyers from the DoJ faced off with the legal team from ByteDance in arguments before Judge Carl Nichols of the US District Court for the District of Columbia, who has said he release his decision by late Sunday.

That decision comes in response to TikTok's latest legal action - a request for an emergency injunction - to try and circumvent a series of executive orders signed by President Trump that seek to completely shut down the app by No. 12. If allowed to stand, TikTok would be booted from American app stores, as of midnight, with more restrictions set to come into effect after the election.

The proceedings have been kept mostly under wraps, with a select group of reporters, mostly from various wire services, allowed to report on the hearing. About an hour ago, a redacted brief filed by the government outlining its argument was finally released, after Bloomberg published a preview earlier today which revealed that the DoJ's argument centered on an earlier ruling from a judge in PA.

So far, this is the biggest hint that we've gotten on the judge's decision, hinting that whether TikTok has been accorded "due process" might be a key issue in the judge's thinking.

And while a decision might not arrive until late tonight, since the judge is requiring both sides to respond to his opinion before it's unsealed.

Axios' editor Dan Primack believes the odds are that TikTok's request will be granted, given the precedent from the WeChat ruling earlier this month.

Here's a redacted briefing outlining the rest of the government's argument, the most thorough explanation yet, which was apparently filed Friday night, but only released Sunday afternoon. In its ruling, the DoJ accuses TikTok of being a "mouthpiece of the Communist Party" and alleges that the company has an "informal" relationship with the state security apparatus due to Chinese laws compelling cooperation by domestic companies.

Beijing-controlled papers published a flurry of editorials opposing the deal last week. ByteDance's venture investors, including General Atlantic Partners and Sequoia Capital, created the structure that makes it look like TikTok will largely be owned by US investors, though this fact has apparently been disputed as both Beijing and Washington want the other to come away with majority control - one of the key sticking points in the talks, according to press reports. According to the structure, Oracle will manage TikTok in its cloud, a highly lucrative business, while ByteDance would retain control of TikTok's content-recommendation algorithm, seen as its "secret sauce". An IPO would then be planned for some time next year.
