Jet turbines are cast out of titanium and heat treated in very specialized machines at high pressure and high temperatures to "squeeze" the impurities out of the metal.
They are heavy and they spin at very high RPM's. All it takes is a tiny speck of an impurity in the casting to create a critical weak spot and the thing to come apart due to centrifugal force.
