Someone should take a look at the flight data and see how fast it was going right before it dropped 5000 feet. I'm guessing a simple calculation could be done to determine if a plane traveling that fast could have had the engine explode and still take that window out. Essentially, why did the debris from the explosion hit that window, and not the window behind the engine.
