pépé's check method:
Ask someone to repeat something important and if she largely uses the same words and structures/phrases each time she tells it, then it is set up.
A free person telling the truth will use free text and tell it differently - with the same content of course - each time.
And even if I divulge this, it remains true because it can't be faked, so I can tell it.
