The Washington Post, whose sole owner is a CIA contractor, has published yet another anonymously sourced CIA press release disguised as a news report which just so happens to facilitate longstanding CIA foreign policy.

In an article titled “Secret CIA assessment: Putin ‘probably directing’ influence operation to denigrate Biden”, WaPo’s virulent neoconservative war pig Josh Rogin describes what was told to him by unnamed sources about the contents of a “secret” CIA document which alleges that Vladimir Putin is “probably” overseeing an interference operation in America’s presidential election.

True to form, at no point does WaPo follow standard journalistic protocol and disclose its blatant financial conflict of interest with the CIA when promoting an unproven CIA narrative which happens to serve the consent-manufacturing agendas of the CIA for its new cold war with Russia.

‘We should not be taken for fools’: Hungary & Poland hit back at Brussels with institute aimed at scrutinizing rule-of-law in EU

Budapest and Warsaw have decided to beat Brussels at its own game by announcing the creation of an institute that would monitor violations of law within the EU, after the bloc accused the two member states of breaching the law.

Hungary’s foreign minister Peter Szijjarto announced the move after meeting with his Polish counterpart, Zbigniew Rau, on Monday.

“The aim of this institute of comparative law would be that we should not be taken for fools,” Szijjarto said, adding that he was losing patience with “western European politicians using us as a punchbag.”

The new institute will closely follow how the rule of law is upheld across the European Union, in order to ensure “double standards” aren’t being used to unfairly accuse Hungary and Poland of wrongdoing, the Hungarian diplomat explained. Foreign Minister Rau said the new organization would help foster a “legal debate” in the union, noting that such dialogue was preferable to political feuding.

Brussels has accused both countries of undermining democratic values by exerting political influence on media and courts and of targeting non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Both countries were censured by the European Parliament in April for flouting “European values” during the coronavirus pandemic. Budapest and Warsaw were accused of overriding democratic processes as part of their response to the health crisis, even though most European states imposed their own draconian Covid-19 measures with little or no democratic oversight.

If you can't beat them, ban them: Twitter no longer showing search results from well-known Russian state news agency RIA Novosti

Twitter has shadow-banned well-known Russian news agency RIA Novosti. In practice, the move means users will no longer see the agency's tweets in the website's search results, unless they follow the media organization's account.

The removal of RIA Novosti's tweets from the search function has been called "media censorship," as the social network continues to restrict news outlets it considers to be "Russian state-affiliated." Last month, both RT and Sputnik also faced the same suppression.

"We consider such restrictions on the part of Twitter to be an act of media censorship, which is expressly prohibited by the Russian Constitution," the press service of Rossiya Segodnya, the parent company of RIA Novosti, said on Monday. "The social network does not react to our requests and does not explain its decisions."

This latest move against Russian media has been criticized by independent Russian Senator Alexander Bashkin, who called the decision "open censorship," accusing Twitter of "double standards."

"This is a real information war," he insisted.

In August, Twitter announced that it would be labeling accounts of key government officials of the five UN Security Council members, as well as state-linked media and their senior staff. This caused controversy when the company opted to label RT and Sputnik as 'state-affiliated,' but left the likes of BBC and US state-run Voice of America and RFE/RL alone

Foreign aid workers on Lesbos probed for helping traffickers deliver migrants to Greece

Greek police have launched a criminal investigation into dozens of foreign aid workers on the island of Lesbos, who were allegedly in cahoots with human traffickers, delivering illegal migrants to Greece from Turkey.

The law enforcers said that they were investigating 35 people linked to unnamed NGOs, which were operating on the island.

Police studied their activities for months before concluding that, under the guise of humanitarian work, the suspects were actually cooperating with traffickers who were smuggling migrants into the country.

They used encrypted apps to provide information on assembly points on the Turkish shore, geographical coordinates of landing spots, accommodation areas at the Moria refugee camp and more, according to the police.

This scheme was employed on at least 32 occasions since last June and saw several thousand people entering Greece illegally.

"An investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the criminal organization's illegal activity and its links," the police said.

The probed NGO staff included citizens of Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain, Austria, Norway, Bulgaria, as well as Iran and Pakistan, according to Greek media reports.

Why Poland wants a permanent US military base, and is willing to pay $2 billion for it

Poland’s government is interested in establishing a permanent U.S. military presence in their country and they’re willing to pay for it.

The Polish defense ministry said there is a “clear and present need for a permanent U.S. armored division deployed in Poland,” and is willing to provide financial backing to host the soldiers that could reach $2 billion, according to a copy of the proposal obtained by Polish news outlet Onet.

The ”clear and present need” outlined in the document appeared to be sparked by Russia.

“Establishing such a force is necessary to present an unequivocal challenge and deterrence to Russia’s increasingly emboldened and dangerous posture that threatens Europe,” the proposal reads.

The document references the Trump administration’s 2017 National Security Strategy, which identified Russian aggression in Georgia in 2008 and in Ukraine in 2014 as a key threat to the United States and global stability.

“As shown in Ukraine, Russia is capable of effectively deploying hybrid warfare through its annexation of Crimea, cyberattacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, and fueling separatists,” the document reads. “An increased U.S. permanent presence in Poland will give America the strategic flexibility it needs to confront and deter these threats.”

An “Unimaginable Nightmare”: The Abduction, Rape, and Forced Conversion of Christian Girls in Egypt

The kidnapping, sexual abuse, and forced conversion of Christian women and girls in Egypt—a “particularly vulnerable group to exploitation” that is quietly living an “unimaginable nightmare”—is rampant with no signs of abatement. This is the finding of a report published on September 10, 2020 by Coptic Solidary (CS), an international organization based in Washington D.C., that works to promote equal citizenship rights for Egypt’s Christian minority.

In its 15-page report, titled “‘Jihad of the Womb’: Trafficking of Coptic Women & Girls in Egypt,” CS documents “the widespread practice of abduction and trafficking” and estimates that there have been “about 500 cases within the last decade, where elements of coercion were used that amount to trafficking,” according to the UN’s own definitions, particularly per its “Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons Especially Women and Children.”

According to CS:

The capture and disappearance of Coptic women and minor girls is a bane of the Coptic community in Egypt, yet little has been done to address this scourge by the Egyptian or foreign governments, NGOs, or international bodies. According to a priest in the Minya Governorate, at least 15 girls go missing every year in his area alone. His own daughter was nearly kidnapped had he not been able to intervene in time.

The report offers 13 separate case studies. Victims range from teenage girls, to newly-wed and pregnant young women, to married women with children. Most of the 500 disappeared in one of two ways: either they were publicly kidnapped, often by being forced into a car while traveling to school, church, or work; or—and this is especially true for teenage girls—they were lured into relationships with young Muslim men who promised them the world, until, that is, it was too late.

Ethiopia: At least 500 Christians—“including pregnant women, children and whole families”— were slaughtered between late June and August 27 in what were reported as “relentless door-to-door” attacks. Putin Plans to Visit Seoul After Being Inoculated With Russian COVID-19 Vaccine, Moon's Office Says

SEOUL (Sputnik) - Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his readiness to visit South Korea after getting vaccinated against COVID-19, the administration of the South Korean president said on Monday.

"I will come to South Korea … I will personally take the Russian vaccine and go," Putin said in response to Moon's invitation to visit Seoul, as quoted by the South Korean presidential office.

According to the administration, the South Korean president praised the active cooperation of the two countries in shipbuilding and other areas.

Moon also called on his Russian counterpart to make joint efforts to achieve early results in the negotiations on the free trade in services and investments agreement, in the creation of a specialized industrial zone for South Korean enterprises in Primorsky Territory, and in other bilateral projects.

Earlier in the day, Putin and his South Korean counterpart, Moon Jae-in, held a phone conversation and exchanged congratulations on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Russian-South Korean diplomatic relations, which is celebrated on September 30.

Pope Francis Declines to Meet Mike Pompeo After Secretary of State Slams Vatican-China Ties - Report

The Pope was to meet the US top diplomat to discuss the would-be renewal of the Vatican-China deal, which oversees the procedure of appointment of Chinese bishops.

Pope Francis announced Sunday that he will not meet US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who is going on a formal visit this week, for fear it “could influence the US election campaign” and in order to “avoid any kind of manipulation”, Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported, citing the pontiff's office.

The development comes after the top US diplomat was recently vocal in his criticism of the Vatican’s ties with China. Francis and Pompeo have been planning a meeting regarding whether or not to renew a deal, whereby the Vatican approves the bishops appointed by China’s Catholic branch.

Pompeo has argued the Vatican should by no means do it, citing the alleged religious persecution of Xinjiang Muslims, which the politician rushed to accuse Xi Jinping’s government of.

“The human rights situation in China has deteriorated severely under the autocratic rule of Xi Jinping, especially for religious believers”, the secretary of state wrote in an article for First Things magazine this month.

Shortly after 11 a.m., as members of the 36th Infantry Division band played the national anthem, four helicopters hovered over Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex in North Austin, the rumble of their rotors temporarily drowning out the patriotic brass as every eye in the crowd was drawn upward.

The air was thick with a mixture of pride, excitement and sadness Sunday as more than 700 Texas National Guard soldiers set to deploy to the Middle East stood in formation on the football field with families scattered through the stadium looking on.

The soldiers will travel to Fort Hood for a month of training, followed by a nine-month overseas tour of duty. The division will support Operation Spartan Shield, an ongoing Department of Defense operation headquartered in Kuwait. It’s the largest deployment for the Texas Military Department this year.

Death toll in Ukraine military plane crash climbs to 26, lone survivor praised as hero

The number of people killed after a Ukraine military plane crashed near the northeastern city of Kharkiv on Friday has climbed to 26.

Searchers combing the crash site discovered another three bodies on Saturday. The grim tally climbed a second time the same day after it was announced one of the two surviving cadets succumbed to his extensive burn injuries and died at an area hospital.

A total of 20 military cadets and seven crew members were aboard the Antonov AN-26 transport plane when it crashed during a training flight on Friday. The aircraft burst into flames upon landing near a highway just more than a mile from the Chuguiv military air base.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday praised the only survivor during an appearance not far from where the aircraft went down.

“Ukraine has lost 26 worthy sons,” Zelensky said on Facebook, referring to the cadets and officers of the Kharkiv National Air Force University.
