My advice to young people who want to get involved in this is simple. Learn Russian. Then, get materials in Russian that teach Polish language, and learn Polish. You will actually progress much faster than going straight to Polish and you will end up speaking Polish more naturally and fluently. While you are in Poland you will notice that the Poles think all Americans talk funny with their accents and will laugh at them thinking that you are not American. If you ask a Pole to identify your origin they will likely say Lithuania or Sweden rather than USA. This is a good thing if you want to go into intelligence.
