Former NM Democratic Gov. Bill Richardson Accused Of Taking Bribes, Kickbacks To ‘Fund Debauched Lifestyle Including ‘Sexual Services And Favors’

Former governor of New Mexico Bill Richardson, who has been accused by Virginia Roberts of having sex with her on Jeffrey Epstein’s orders when she was underage — faces a slew of new allegations.

Richardson, 72, “has been accused of raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes and kickbacks while in office – money which allegedly funded a luxury and debauched lifestyle including ‘sexual services and favors,” according to a recently unsealed legal complaint obtained by DailyMail.com.

According to the lawsuit, Richardson ran a scam dubbed the ‘Richardson Ring’ which saw the one-time governor benefiting from money he grafted from business investments into the state of New Mexico in the early 2000s.

The greedy politician lined his own pockets with cash, used some money to fund his political campaigns and organizations and also enjoyed lavish meals, wine and liquor as well as luxury travel and entertainment, the legal filing claims. …

Richardson’s alleged ‘pay to play’ scheme was exposed by a man called Frank Foy and made public in unsealed court documents in January 2009. The resulting public scandal forced the SIC to begin investigating kickbacks in state investment business and Richardson himself. Now in a civil action filed in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, in May, but only unsealed last week, it’s alleged that Richardson oversaw a sophisticated cover up of his scheme.

The lawsuit claims that Governor Richardson was able to place his trusted ‘operatives’ in state government jobs to cover-up his wrongdoing.

Virginia Roberts, whose married name is Giuffre, has named Richardson as among a list of powerful men she was ordered by Epstein to have sex with. Epstein, who allegedly committed in his jail cell in New York last year, owned the huge 10,000 acre Zorro Ranch in New Mexico, where it’s believed he assaulted young girls and threw lavish parties for his powerful guests, The Mail reported.

In a statement issued to Fox News by Richardson’s reps, the former Democratic governor said: “Governor Richardson has never even been contacted by any party regarding this lawsuit. To be clear, in Governor Richardson’s limited interactions with Mr. Epstein, he never saw him in the presence of young or underage girls. Governor Richardson has never been to Mr. Epstein’s residence in the Virgin Islands. Governor Richardson has never met Ms. Giuffre.”

The statement doesn’t mention if Richardson ever went to Zorro Ranch.

Pompeo Urges Peace, Sides with Greece in Turkish Border Dispute

On Monday, the United States and Greece issued a joint statement calling for a peaceful solution to the ongoing dispute in the Eastern Mediterranean between Greece and Turkey, according to POLITICO.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who is visiting Greece for the second time this year, released a joint statement saying that the U.S. and Greece “reaffirmed their belief that maritime delimitation issues should be resolved peacefully.”

The statement continues, emphasizing that the two countries were ready and willing to employ “all appropriate means at their disposal, in order to safeguard stability and security in the wider region.”

The dispute, over potentially abundant natural gas reserves in the Eastern Mediterranean, has seen tensions between the two Aegean neighbors come closer to war than they have been in twenty-five years. In 1996, the two rival countries, both in NATO, almost clashed over an uninhabited island in the Aegean Sea that lies between them.

In 2016 there were a mind-boggling 16 rounds of talks between the two countries. The nations sought to resolve their maritime border disputes. Those collapsed. Since then, Greco-Turkish relations have worsened dramatically.

Recently, Greece announced that it would be bolstering its military capabilities in what will be its biggest military build-up in decades, according to The Guardian.

This build-up, part of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s €6.8-billion ($7.93B) defense plan, will see Greece purchase 18 French Rafale jets and four multi-purpose frigates, as well as upgrading its current naval vessel and old aircraft, as reported.

Additionally, the relationship between the U.S. and Turkey has also deteriorated severely over the past decade as their objectives in the Middle East have increasingly conflicted with one another. Most notably, they have clashed diplomatically in the drawn-out Syrian Civil War and conflict with the Islamic State (IS) over the roles of Kurdish anti-IS militias and Russian forces.

Following a Tuesday visit to a U.S. naval base on the Greek island of Crete, Sec. Pompeo will depart to visit Croatia, Italy, and the Vatican.

ASSANGE HEARING DAY FIFTEEN—Alexandria Jail and SAMs Isolation Conditions Described in Detail as Place Where Assange Would Be Detained

5:00 am EDT: Court is in session. First defense witness is attorney Yancey Ellis, testifying at 5 a.m. from Alexandria, Virginia.

6:37 am EDT: Ellis testified that from his experience with clients at the Alexandria Detention Center X Bloc, where prisoners are held in segregated detention, that Assange would be held in a 50-foot cell, containing a shelf where he would sleep and a steel toilet and sink for 22 hours a day.

He would be let out for only 1 to 2 hours a day, when no other inmates are around. Ellis said that it was impossible to speak through the steel doors with his clients unless both shouted at each other.

He said the only way to communicate was through the food tray slot, which was closed outside of meal time, meaning Ellis had to try to find a deputy to open the slot so he could converse with his client. Because of the steel doors and plexiglass windows with no openings it was impossible for inmates to communicate with each other.

Edward Fitzgerald QC for the defense asked him if Assange could be there for months or years. Ellis replied that he would be held there until his case is adjudicated by the judges in Alexandria.

Fitzgerald then said that Gordon Kromberg, the assistant U.S. attorney, whose affidavit the prosecution has relied on, said that inmates in X Bloc could communicate with each other.

“It is almost impossible to speak through the door if the food tray slot is not open. It would not be possible for anyone to say that if he is familiar with the X Bloc,” Ellis said. “That is the whole point of the X Bloc unit. He is supposed to be kept by himself.”

Fitzgerald then pointed out that Special Administrative Measures (SAMs) would be additional isolation on top of what Ellis had described. Ellis said he had no direct experience with SAMs but understood them to mean further restrictions on visits and communication with family and friends.

In X Bloc, prisoners could theoretically use the recorded telephone line during their 1 to 2 hours outside the cell, he said.

On the question of mental health care at the ADC, Ellis said there was no doctor on staff at the ADC, and only part-time contracted psychologists, mostly to monitor medication. He said no psychotherapy was available.

“Basically it is a social worker checking to see if you are maintaining a level of functioning,” Ellis said.

On cross examination, James Lewis QC tried to undermine Ellis’ criticism of Kromberg’s affidavit by saying that Ellis did not know for sure if Assange would be held in X Bloc.

He established first that Ellis had never interviewed the warden, a psychologist or the staff about prison conditions, which seemed irrelevant as Ellis testified about the conditions that he had seen with his own two eyes on numerous visits to the jail.

Cardinal George Pell returns to Rome for first time since acquittal

Cardinal George Pell is travelling to Rome this week for the first time since he was acquitted of child sex abuse charges in Australia, a Catholic church spokeswoman confirmed.

The former Vatican treasurer left Rome in July 2017 to face charges for sexually assaulting two choirboys in the late 1990s. He was convicted in December 2018 and served just over a year in jail before Australia's High Court overturned the conviction in April.

The 79-year-old cardinal has been living in Sydney since his release.

"He always intended to return to Rome," said Katrina Lee, Pell's close friend who is an executive adviser to the Archdiocese of Sydney.

She confirmed a report which said Pell was flying to Rome on Tuesday, but said she did not know how long he was going for or the aim of the trip.

When he left Rome in 2017, Pell was head of the Vatican's Secretariat of the Economy which was working on cleaning up the church's vast finances and eliminating abuse.

His trip to Rome comes just days after a powerful Vatican cardinal, Giovanni Becciu, was fired after Pope Francis accused him of embezzlement and nepotism.

Pell and Becciu were at odds over reform of the Vatican's accounts.

In a statement sent to the Catholic News Agency on Sept 26, Pell said: "The Holy Father was elected to clean up Vatican finances. He plays a long game and is to be thanked and congratulated on recent developments."

"I hope the cleaning of the stables continues in both the Vatican and Victoria," Pell said. He was charged with child sex abuse in the Australian state of Victoria.
