Who was present at the death? If she was indeed the clan matriarch then she had to be killed by the new matriarch who takes the title of Grande Dame by killing her. Usually it is done by hitting the head with a stone club, i.e. the original human weapon. Of course it will probably be a polished quartz crystal ball or egg shape, wired onto an oak staff or something along those lines.
