Ding dong! It's a happy day in munchkin land.
The damage is consistent with an uncontained fan blade failure. At altitude, N1 was likely in the 4600-4800 rpm range. Those wide chord Titanium blades are still pretty heavy. Say a 2000-2500 gram piece liberated at the blade root. Shit load of energy to tear up the cowl. Even a 200 gram piece of blade debris could easily penetrate the window. It's not ballistic glass.
Yup. I've seen a ceramic turbine disk embedded a few inches into a steel thrust frame. We had several inches of ballistic glass in a view window and realized it wouldn't stop shit. Installed CCTV cameras to get the operators out of the planes of rotations.
