i believe it is in part to remind us all of the power of belief
and not just in God but in ourselves and all of humanity
remembering that there is something at stake (that which we fight for) much greater than ourselves alone
and that (personal) sacrifices must be made
it makes me think of, "The strength of our collective will" (manifest miracles, perhaps?)
what the human race has needed most imho is an attitude adjustment
and faith can help in that realm tremendously
