“Russia disinformation” except that’s exactly what HRC and campaign did, including Robby Mook going on TV to kick it off

Mook suggests Russians leaked DNC emails to help Trump

Hillary Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook suggested Sunday that internal DNC emails leaked last week were an effort from the Russians to help Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

“What’s disturbing to us is that experts are telling us Russian state actors broke into the DNC, stole these emails, and other experts are now saying that the Russians are releasing these emails for the purpose of actually of helping Donald Trump,” Mook said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“I don’t think it’s coincidental that these emails were released on the eve of our convention.”

Mook did not provide evidence that the Russians were trying to help Trump when pressed by CNN’s Jake Tapper to back up his charges, instead falling back on what “experts” were saying.

“This isn’t my assertion — there are a number of experts that are asserting this,” Mook said. “I think we need to get to the bottom of these facts. But that’s what experts are telling us. Experts are telling us it is, in fact, the Russians who hacked these emails.”

Last month, it was publicly revealed that Russian government hackers had broken into the Democratic National Committee computer servers, which contained opposition research on Trump. The DNC emails released by WikiLeaks on Friday showed DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and other DNC staffers being critical of the Bernie Sanders campaign.

The Clinton campaign and Democrats have gone after Trump for his praise of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, a line of criticism that was amplified this past week when Trump suggested he might not honor NATO’s commitments to defend Eastern European allies attacked by Russia, if they didn’t make sufficient financial contributions to the alliance.

Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort dismissed Mook’s comments on Sunday, telling ABC’s “This Week” that it was “pure obfuscation on the part of the Clinton campaign.”

“What they don’t want to talk about is what’s in those emails,” Manafort said.

Later, Trump's campaign issued an official response.

"What a joke. This shows that Hillary Clinton will do and say anything to win the election and hold onto power in the rigged system," said Jason Miller, the campaign's senior communications adviser.

Unless Biden "sundowns" tonight, he'll win the debate. He steam rolls his counter-facts just as Trump does, and he's not hated like Hillary is. Absent a major Hillary-on-911 moment, the edge goes to Biden tonight.

Trump and Biden get evites as Al Smith Dinner goes virtual

Sep. 28, 2020 Updated: Sep. 28, 2020 5:44 p.m.

NEW YORK (AP) — President Donald Trump is expected to be in virtual attendance Thursday as New York City’s annual Al Smith Dinner moves mostly online because of the coronavirus pandemic, organizers said.

Trump has accepted an invitation to return to the dinner for the first time in four years. Organizers said they anticipate his Democratic rival, Joe Biden, will attend as well.

But Biden's campaign hasn’t confirmed he will attend the event.

The white-tie Al Smith Dinner, which raises funds for Catholic Charities, is usually held at a Manhattan hotel on the third Thursday in October. A scaled down, in-person event for 50 people at a public garden in the Bronx was scrapped after state officials raised virus safety concerns.

This year's virtual dinner will originate from multiple locations, with Cardinal Timothy Dolan presiding from the Sheen Center for Thought & Culture in Manhattan and opera singer Nadine Sierra performing the National Anthem from St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

The event is named for former New York Gov. Alfred E. Smith, a Democrat and the first Roman Catholic to be nominated for president by a major party in 1928. He was handily defeated by Herbert Hoover.

John F. Kennedy was the first Roman Catholic elected president when he defeated Richard Nixon in 1960. Biden would be the second if he defeats Trump.

Organizers say this year's Al Smith Dinner will be dedicated to essential workers who helped save lives and keep the city running during the worst of the pandemic. Typically, when then event is held in an election year, it's meant to promote collegiality and good humor among political rivals, organizers said.

Trump last attended the dinner in 2016, when he drew jeers for attacking Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton as “corrupt” and accusing her of "pretending not to hate Catholics.” At that event, Trump and Clinton were seated in the same row, with just Dolan between them.

Last year's keynote speaker, U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis, joked about Trump calling him “the world’s most overrated general.”

“I’m honored to be considered that by Donald Trump because he also called Meryl Streep an overrated actress,” Mattis said. “So I guess I’m the Meryl Streep of generals, and frankly that sounds pretty good to me.”
