Gov Cuomo Threatens To Send In National Guard To Pick Up Trash As NYC Garbage Crisis Worsens

Offering perhaps the clearest indication yet of his priorities as a Democratic governor of one of the most liberal states in the country, NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo just suggested Tuesday that he might send in the national guard to help pick up trash around the city, infuriating critics who questioned his eagerness to send in the National Guard to act as glorified garbagemen, despite his unwillingness to deploy them during the unrest that followed the killing of George Floyd.

During the lockdown and the months that followed, trash has piled up on some NYC sidewalks. While kvetching about the growing trash pileup, the governor complained that he didn't know "what was going on" in NYC - which is run by his political rival, Mayor Bill de Blasio - and claimed that he had offered to send in the National Guard to come pick up the garbage if the city couldn't handle the job.

Complaints about negligent trash pickup have piled up alongside the mountains of garbage, largely thanks to a $106 million cut to the budget of the city's Department of Sanitation. Complaints about trash piling up in city parks have doubled since last summer, according to Patch.com.

City politicians have demanded the mayor address the problem, which primarily impacts low-income neighborhoods, officials have argued.

If the "New York City Department of Sanitation and their resources can't do it for one reason or another," the national guard will be sent in, Cuomo claimed. Cuomo made the remarks during a presentation devoted to his "New York City Stabilization and Recovery Strategy," where the governor outlined ideas on how to improve everything from schools to the city's homelessness crisis.

"This is a public health pandemic — cleanliness matters," Cuomo insisted. the trash comment wasn't the only dig at de Blasio.

Hostage situation in Oregon ends with 3 dead, including 11-year-old boy

A 43-year-old woman has been hospitalized with serious injuries, and a 13-year-old boy was rescued uninjured

A hostage situation in Oregon on Monday ended with three people dead, including the suspected hostage-taker and an 11-year-old boy.

Oregon State Police reported that the Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene in Salem, where deputies were able to establish communications with suspect Jose Jesus Lopez-Tinoco, 34. During the talks, gunshots rang out from the residence where Lopez-Tinoco was holed up, leading officers to force their way in.

The news released from the state police says that "during the rescue one deputy fired a yet to be determined number of rounds."

Once inside, deputies discovered Lopez-Tinoco dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. They also found 24-year-old Laura Bustos-Bustos dead from a gunshot wound, and an 11-year-old boy who had also been fatally shot.

Another woman, 43-year-old Laura Rocia-Bustos was found alive inside the home and was transported to a hospital with serious injuries after being shot. A 13-year-old boy was found physically unharmed.

Neither of the boys' names will be released.

What about the deputy?

The officer who discharged his service weapon, Deputy Ricky Kittelson, has been placed on administrative leave per protocol as the investigation continues.

The New York Post noted that "it was not revealed if any of the injuries were believed to have been from the officer's shots," and "officials also did not reveal what sparked the hostage situation, nor the relationship between Lopez-Tinoco and the victims."

A neighbor who watched the scene unfold from the outside shared footage with local outlet KOIN-TV that she had taken from her home during the tragic situation.

Showing off site, Hezbollah denies Netanyahu claim of Beirut arms stores

Nasrallah calls allegations at UN ‘incitement’; journalists brought to tour factory alleged to hold missile depot, report no weapons seen

Hezbollah denied placing arms depots in downtown Beirut after Israel alleged the Lebanese terror group was producing and storing weapons next to crowded civilian areas in the capital, and took journalists on a tour in a bid to disprove the claims.

Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday alleged that a secret arms factory belonging to Hezbollah was hidden near Beirut’s International Airport, near gas companies, a gas station and civilian housing.

Shortly after, the Israel Defense Forces published information that it said showed the location of two more sites in civilian areas of southern Beirut tied to Hezbollah’s precision missile program.

In a prescheduled address hours later, Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah briefly digressed from the main subject of his speech — Lebanon’s rapidly collapsing government — to counter Netanyahu’s claims.

“If there [were] missiles there placed by Hezbollah — even a single rocket — I would not waste a minute before informing you of this matter,” Nasrallah said, adding “we don’t put rockets, not in the Beirut port, not by a gas station. We know very well where to put our weapons.”

“This is incitement of the Lebanese people against Hezbollah, as usual” Nasrallah said.

In an effort to prove that the site of which Netanyahu spoke was not an arms depot, Hezbollah invited local journalists to visit the area by Beirut’s international airport later on Tuesday night.
