Interesting little dig I've been doing this morning after I came across a small poster of the path of the eclipse on 8/21/2017.
I remembered that there is another eclipse that will cross the US on 4/8/2024. I guess we are almost half way through that time frame.

Anyway, I found out some interesting things about the approximate area where the two eclipse paths cross. For one thing there are a lot of "Egypt" references. The area is near the convergence of the Ohio and Missouri Rivers.
The town closest to the "exact" crossing point (also very near the spot of longest duration of the 2017 eclipse if my understanding is correct) is called Makanda. According to Wikipedia accessed today it had the slogan "Star of Egypt" in the early twentieth century.

Another location nearby is the nearly abandoned Cairo, IL. I found an interesting and timely story about Cairo, IL. Apparently, the city was a boom town that ended up torn apart and partially boarded up after racist violence.

Do any anons have additional perspectives on this area and/or the significance of two eclipses crossing the same region in just under 7 years time?
