The express purpose of the Federal government is to provide for the common defense and well-being of the several states, which themselves are the true repositories of the people's rights. The fact that people see the federal government as the protector and arbiter of rights shows how far we are from its original purpose. The Bill of Rights was only to be an assurance to the skeptics who were worried about encroachments on the states and the people.
But I digress. Anyone who argues its worth saving…gets no argument from me.
